# When I get prepared to start a new track I usually listen to some music for a hour then grab a coke and some beef jerky and sit down in my nice chair and go.

What are some of your habits??

# Usually I smoke out. ( had to quit,...looking for a different job) But music wise I tend to start out with a solid melody. I gotta feel a vibe if that makes any sense. Then I progress from there. Get the drum work going (usually basic backbone drum lines) then I hit up the accents to the melody I originaly started with and so on.

# Add me to the list of tokers.(Thank god I work for the biggest organic grocery store in the world who dosen't drug test lol) Blunt first, while I'm burning I usually listen to music from different genre's than what I about to produce and try and draw some outside influence. Depends on the mood some times I lay down a melody, sometimes bass, most of the time start with the drums. I structure the song verses, chorus, bridge all bare bones. Then go back and add the flair.

# @r m c....thats pretty much the way i do it aswell bro, normally tho i get visions when im listening to music and thats wot kicks me into gear....i know this sounds bad but i cant get into the vibe unless i smoke sommat first...i also start wiv a basic drum pattern and then start to layer from there..once i got a basic track i then spend weeks tweakin bits but iv learned that when the ideas aint there jus to leave it alone..iv killed many a track by over tweaking..im sure im not the only 1 whos done this lol...

# a smokers colab sounds good but we'd prob blaze a fattie munch some bickies and fall sleep befor the first 10 bars are completed......

na seriously tho, that sounds like a good idea, altho would prob end up a collabo with about 1765 members lol....

i wonder wot the world record is...hmmmm

# I just open up reason and starting playing around with it untill I get something I like and go from there. I usually create the drums 1st.

# Hmmm..well I don't do any of the above, but usually I'll concentrate on the rhythm tack if the composition has one...I might just say something here as well seeing as a lot of you guys get stoned for inspiration...when I was a kid (well young adult actually)I used to like the occasional spliff, but being a player I soon found out it impeded my ability to perform and clouded my judgement.....but to each their own.

# what I do is pick up my guitar and open up guitar rig 3. Then I open up cool edit pro2. using cool edit pro2 I browse through the thousands of drum loops I have and pick one I like. I let the drums play in a loopy fashion. while the drums are playing I pick up my guitar and my hands start to glow neon green and i blind fold myself and waallaaaa.. and during this whole process i am thinking about twinkies... and its the power of the twinky that empowers my creativness.

# I agree with you I am only 18 but I am smart enough to never use drugs. One can produce better quality music without any mind altering substances. In other words if you can't make anything worth crap when you are not high or drunk, what makes you think you can when you are.

# umm travis...you say you never use drugs.. did you know drugs are mind altering.. which would put you in such a state of different thinking, having the effects on a musician in a creative state would certainly prove efficiant. jimmy hendrix was a great musician who did drugs and his music wasnt crap.

sex drugs and rock n roll to me is how it will always be.

# @ travis- u said this

"I agree with you I am only 18 but I am smart enough to never use drugs."

its not about being smart or not mate, its about personel choice and everybodys brains react differently....your statement kinda implies that the rest of us are stupid...i respect any1 who stays away from drugs, hell,i wouldn want my kid to try em at all but its all down to personel choice and every1 is diferent...boring world otherwise..

# I am not saying anyone is stupid, I just saying it is possible to create great music without the use of drugs, no offense.

# not wot u said bro

"In other words if you can't make anything worth crap when you are not high or drunk, what makes you think you can when you are"

everybody is diferennt....

of course its possible but its also possible when uv smoked a bit of bud....
if id jus shoved 2grammes of ketamin up me nose then u might have a point......
altho keith moon was an amazing drummer and was off his face pretty much most of the time...prob explains y he drove a milk float into his swimming pool lol...

im not arguing wiv u but dont think your comment was a fair 1 on prob quite a high percentage of artists not jus on looperman but artists ever..period...

# it is possible to create great music without being influnced and it is possible to create great music while influenced.it is also possible to create crap music in either state.

# That is kind of what I meant. I was trying to say if you have no musical skill while you aren't under the influence, are just magically going to gain it when you take drugs?

# "One can produce better quality music without any mind altering substances."

but if some1 does have skills in the first place does that mean they dont when they high....

once again-everybody is diferent....

did u know that when some1 uses drugs it opens up parts of the brain that otherwise wouldn ever get used otherwise....

people listen to the media too much about drugs...without having something substansial to base there theories on..it jus comes from second hand information....

iv never eat driven a ferrari so i wouldn star expressing my opinion about how good it is to drive compared to driving a clapped out volvo....

# I never listen to music before I sit down to create music. It's the same when I'm writing - no fiction books at hand.

I like to go into the process beginning by turning to the inside.

I never start any track without going for percussion first, whether it's with loops or with my own collection of drums. Only after I start to wiggle do I begin turning to melody possibilities.

# I wait til my sons fast asleep in bed, then i can relax for a few hours and just go with the flow, I normally just create a melody and then build up from there
