About Me
A man of creativity, ideas, knowledge, wisdom, influence and inspiration; Gilbert Carrizales was born to create the sounds of Trance that inspire the lives of so many. Born in Sumpter South Carolina, he was first introduced to the sounds of Rock & Roll, RnB, rap, hip hop and Tejano. His discovery of trance music began at age 8; also the same age he started playing the piano & drums. He actually began discovering trance music through cd's of the early 90's such as Kay cee lee, delerium, dido & dj tiesto. After experiencing Rock & Roll and his other first discoveries, he - was - mesmerized - by this new sound. After listening to these artists, Gilbert began his expedition to discover more sounds of electronica. He moved to San Antonio TX at age 10, where his ideas started to develope. Through the course of his life, his decision for a career wasn't exactly final, because his influences weren't exactly what he was looking. Before he became a producer, his idea for a career moved more towards the military than anything else. That is until he discovered the group Nu Nrg. Nu Nrg was an electronica group, at the time Gilbert was still exploring. Thats when he heard the song "Freefall" by Nu Nrg. This song was the decision maker for Gilbert. He had never heard so much inspiration and liberation in one song. This was the song that changed the course of his life. Through this song, everthing fell into place. He knew what he wanted to do, and that was to be a professional producer and show the world what he can bring to the dancefloor.
Once he discovered Nu Nrg, he began to discover other artists of the same sound such as Paul Van Dyk, Armin Van Buuren, Thomas Datt, Kristina Sky, Filo & Peri, Sean Tyas and Giuseppe Ottaviani. The sounds that these particular artists produce are so different and so unique from the "American" version of Trance. See, at around the same time Gilbert began producing, he also realized that there we're different sounds of Electronica/progressive. He wasn't and still isn't very much into the American sound of Trance. It's more techno than anything, which he doesn't really go for. Gilbert believes that Trance is something more unique than techno. Trance to him is something that people can really feel. It's like a completely different world to him. It's the sound that is so inspirational and so powerful to the human mind, that you can almost physically feel it. It's the sound that can completely change people's perspective of life. Thats what he's more interested in; creating something that has a powerful meaning.
Finally at age 14, Gilbert obtained a little bit of knowlede and got a copy of Cubase. As many artists, he started off with the very basics and produced material that was of course very generic and inexperienced. For about 2 1/2 years, he experimented and kepted building his knowledge of producing. After that, he started to bring out semi-professional material. Also around the same time, he began Djing. As much as he would have liked to, Djing only trance music was very very difficult in his situation. The fact that America, let alone San Antonio, is very uncomon for trance music. He dj'd more american music than electronic music. Still, he was gaining the experience and connections. Speaking of djing, it wasn't something that was very appealing to Gilbert. When it came down to electronica music, even playing his own tracks on Cd's was still not enough. He felt there should be something more to it than that. His question was finally answered when he discovered the famous italian producer; Giuseppe Ottaviani, also one half of the Nu Nrg project. Giuseppe Ottaviani's music quickly became Gilbert's style of interest. One thing that Giuseppe Ottaviani does in his shows is that he plays his music live. He uses keyboards, synthesizers, mixers, pads and laptops to put on a show. This was the big realization that Gilbert was looking for. Playing his music live through keyboards is exactly what he was going for. As you may have guesssed, Giuseppe Ottaviani was and still is Gilbert's main inspiration. He quickly took on this style of performing and very soon, he did his first show at "The Venue" here in San Antonio. Still, like a lot of artists, the main obstacle in the way of being a bigtime producer, is the obstacle of "exposure".
Once again, San Antonio isn't really the biggest spot for Trance. Infact, 85% of the music in San Antonio is Tejano and hiphop. The other 15% is Trance and Rock & Roll. So trying to expose music that is quite unpopular, is a huge task for Gilbert. Not long after he did his first show, he met up with another Trance master in San Antonio named Clint Kingsbery, who goes by the name Pixel Disaster. This man pretty much gave Gilbert the neccasary tools, tips and ideas of exposure. Not long after they met, they began collaberating, of which were very interesting ideas that involved a drummer. Andrew C-190 (the drummer) developed an idea of performing trance music live with live drumsets. This as you may have guessed, develope new ways of performing live electronica. After weeks of collaberation, they did a show back at "The Venue", which was quite a hit. They have yet to do another show together, but they still push for oppertunities.
