Description : Something i've been working on in pro tools 9 for a couple of days now, not finished as of yet. just an instrumental thats not mastered or mixed with much effort on my part. Getting two of my mates to rap out the verses and a singer preferable a girl to sing the chorus for me. so eventually it'll be a colab between three other artists I know, with me having written and produced the entire thing. I'm adding a nice guitar solo/lick during the small middle eight break and i've also decided to stick to my guns and add a dubstep section which will add about another 40 seconds to the end :) also goin to be adding a different alternating drum pattern so it's not so boring.
Sorry for this mix being so god damn quiet! it's set at -6db because i was mixing through an old pair of monitor headphones that distort :( also pegged it back a little on the output master because I needed some headroom for the vocals when they get recorded in later on.
In short, something simple with a very simple beat and melody.

hhhhmmm...grime is still something that is growing on me ....
you say you've left head room for those vocals but you can show case you talent by leaving room for other people because those vocals might never come alot and then all you left with is a weak track...if you get me?
for me you have got to layer up your bass with at least three copies of the same track.. one low like a sub...one mid...one top...mix 'em together and you got a thick bassline brother...
I would do a similar thing with the drum track...layer up those kicks and snares....
anyway.... I would say you might benefit from checking out this guy
I know what you mean when speaking about the weak track if the vocals don't go to well. so far on the bassline i've only mixed in two instrument tracks, as you said above its only the middle and high section thats playing prominently throughtout in this version. was having trouble with my sub-bass as it was clashing with my kick. i've solved the problem today though by tightening up the kick so it's alot harder hiting between 100k & 130k (anything else is shelfed out) i've added a seperate kick track with a little tad of reverb and an expander on the middle frequencies so it fills the gaps. my sub-bass is side chained with the seperate kick track to add a more aggresive pumping feel.
OdotZed has some tasty tunes fair play to him.
This is my first attempt at a grime genre song so it's a learning curve for me...
Thanks for the review, you've pointed out some flaws that I will need to address for sure.
All the Best,

Cheers mate, Vocals may take a while unfortunately. recording with a simple sm58 isn't enough for me so i'm waiting until I return to uni to use the studios for a better sound. which in the mean time means,I have plently of time to concentrate on the mix

Closest to a complete grime track I've managed to put together. Grime is what I want to produce.
Feel that the claps and snares need better mixing, hit me uo if you can help.
I'm happy to send the project file (FL Studio 10) to anyone who could take this further, just let me know and I'll get it to you ASAP.
Description : Michael watched from the alley
he had seen her plenty of times
he conveyed her every move to his
warped and twisted memory
his probation officer told him to stay away from his old haunts
away from his old pals
out of the old familiar bars
and especially away from his old bad habits
but michael and there is always a but
did not feel like doing that
he felt like he was doing the right thing the good thing
the thing which would make a ripper look like a choir boy
and as he moved out of the shadows into the pools of yellow
he felt for the blade
