Description : Still just testing things...
Beautiful vocals and lyrics by Addis Branwell https://www.looperman.com/acapellas/detail/5751 with some help from Holly.
Guitar from ebaby8119, some strings from rosiero and a flute loop from Enzotic - all of these I repitched in various ways to have some more sounds to work with. The drums are mine and they lack something? Hats? Pants? A shirt? I have no idea. They actually sounded better in the daw just a moment ago. But I'm at least happy with the bass line here, finally starting to hear the purpose of it and hearing how it should sound. Or that's what I hope I do...and NO PIANO! Oh, and one more thing: Are you guys listening to this on headphones or not?

Hi SJ,
You never disappoint me! This is another beautiful track.
You got a lot of comments/hints on the mix, this is because I think this track *is difficult* to mix, since you have a lot of things going on (as you said, it's so "dense" that it wouldn't almost need a vocal part).
But it's so good that you cannot remove anything!

What could you do to make it more "airy"?
I second Dan and Ed: you could try panning the background synths a bit more to the side, this should already free some space. And I also agree to Ed for the drums: this is a chilly song, so no need to go for explosive drums. Nevertheless adding some cymbals (as somebody else already noted) should make the mix more "extended" on the high frequencies, giving it a more airy touch.

But please let me state it once more: I like this song! In fact I like it a lot!
Ciao, Domenico

Really liking this, such a beautiful flow throughout, Had a listen on both speakers and headphone and both sounded quite wide, but that's fine as it gives the track that airy sound!

Listened on headphones, I don't think this song is missing anything personally, I like it the way it is, it soothes a tormented soul.

World drums would be any hand drum. Like a Djembe, Darbuka, Conga, Bongo, Taiko, etc.

Like Maffin suggested, a soft conga line, or even a Djembe to enhance the higher frequencies. I know FL has quite a few presets in the world drum section. I don't remember exactly where to find them, but I've used them before. You'll have to assign them to a mixer track and EQ the hell out of them to bring them up to par, but once you do, they sound pretty good.

Good luck with your progress!

Take care.

You`ve got a good one going here SJ...notice you have had a few suggestions...bass sounds exactly as it should on my system..eq is pretty close, sut I would play around with widening the mix a bit...panning some of the backing quite a bit more...you might try inserting a mid-side processor on some of the tracks too...vocal is really fitting well..drums are a little understated but it is a chillout mix so may not call for anything very drastic..a couple of dBs of gain ..try a compressor set to show 3-5 dBs of reduction and a real fast release time ...Its so close as it is, but you have a really nice listening piece of music going so likely worth doing a bit of tweaking on...good job...keep on...Ed

Hello Ed and thank you, THANK YOU for the detailed feedback and advice! I'm going to follow your description (if I can!) when remixing this and see what happens.

Take care - I'm off to give your latest track a listen, I have been saving it for a couple of days now because I know it is going to be quite an musical experience!

Hey there SJ - very nice song!

I know you like the bass and it's really good, but I think it's overwhelming the track a touch, and I agree that you should look at the EQ. Less bass actually makes you hear it more clearly sometimes, and the comment about the World Drums is interesting because I can also imagine some soft conga's or more percussion to bring out the top frequencies, especially if you use that percussion pretty wide left and right on the stereo to give some open space and breadth.

On headphones it's ok, but on my monitors the bass is a bit heavy, but it's a lovely song, a great idea and nearly there...!

Very nice listen!

Hi Maff!
You brought a bunch of good advice - I'm getting the picture now. Next step is to remix this with monitors, had no idea that the bass came through that heavily!
Noted about the percussion - a lot of inspiration, thanks!
Redoing...

Thanks for taking your time!

Hello ....

All the ingredients are assembled here, for that this concept is pleasant to listen to: Your idea, the instrumentation, the voices ....
But it lacks the spices to make it perfect .... I mean here, that your mix needs to be a bit more "airy"... and that the components, a little more distinctive in mix ....
Despite my small "culinary" criticism, you realized a concept ambitious and pleasant to listen to ....

Dan

Hi Dan!
Yes, a lot to fix in the mix - I worked with headphones on and haven't had the chance to listen to this on monitors so that's the next step. I'm going for that airy feeling that you are asking for, maybe I'll manage to get there eventually. Thanks for the advice and for the listen!

Take care!

a considered guitar arpeggio as main texture as designed platform for that vocal line - what an impressive & friendlY charachter had male vocal & what a good execution to express thaT innovative lyriX - , & then + that stop as a designed break in the middle & then the resT ..all were greaT .

Yep - good intro - brilliant coda. Great melodies throughout. Some mixing issues with the vocals but overall very good. Loved from 2:12 on (the brilliant part).

Hey Clindsay - thanks for learning me some new words to describe music with - I had to google that "coda".

OK, I knew you would like the tail/outro/coda more than the rest. Actually this song stands pretty well without any vocals, even if there is a lot of mixing and mastering left to do before it's finished.
But I'm going to make two versions, one without vocals or just with a hint of vocals for texture - just as you have suggested before. I think it would work with this one.

Well, that is if I ever get finished...I tend to get bored too fast and leave the songs half finished. But I'll try.

Thanks for stopping by!

Hi SJ,

beautiful, mellow chill out...vocals rally hit the spot. Not too much up with the drums, maybe a hat or two would add, with a cymbal shake in places (not very technical but that's how I describe it!!) and juts a hint of sax towards the end.. now that is me, there is nothing wrong with this as it stands so great job SJ.

Best wishes,

Mark/Larry!

Hello, hello MrWiggles/Mark!

First of all - thanks for playing my music on the Loop Radio!
I've catched a few of your shows now and will be listening soon again. You seem to play a lot of my favourite music from here, all the epic dance tunes etc. so really good shows!

Your technical description is right at my level, haha! I think I can mannage to follow that even. The sax was a brilliant idea!! Wonder if they have any good sax loops here, have to check that out.
Thanks for listening!

Hello. You were wondering what the drums were lacking. in my opinion, it's volume and EQ'ing. The sounds and vocals you have chosen are are a good choice, but you need to put them in your mixer and balance them out. Maybe a little variation on the beat as well. A few pauses would be good. You could also try adding another track with World Drums to fill the spaces in what you already have. I'm pretty sure they would sound nice with the melodies and the vocals you already have in motion. Otherwise, it's a very pleasant track.
Again, this is just my opinion.

Take care.

Hi there ValVedriVer!
Yes I want your opinion - thanks for taking time to listen and comment, that's exactly what I need.

Volume - check.
EQ - most definitely, I did something very strange to the drums with some kind of a preset, flanger/flangus I think? It didn't really work in the mix so have to rework all of that.
And some variation, stops and fills definitely missing here, thanks for the tip about World Drums - have to check that out, don't know what that is yet but it sounds interesting.

Reworking this soon, thanks for the advice!

Take care/ SJ =)

Well, thank you!
You are the star of this song so thanks again for sharing your acapella.
I'll try to fix the sound quality, your voice isn't coming through all together, and you really have a full and rich voice but the instrumental is drowning it a bit here. And some other issues also remains to be fixed...

But I'm really glad to hear that you like the idea so far.
If I ever get finished with this I'll upload it on my Soundcloud account too, if that's OK with you.

Take care!

Anyhoo, this song is almost a prayer, hence the repetitiveness of the verses. As Christians, we believe that God will one day return and take away every suffering and all evil for good; in that regard, this song is almost one of waiting too. Very simple, with vocal harmonies and whatnot. Hope you enjoy this as much as I did making it. Made in 13 hours.

Someone else wrote the words, I was just inspired to use them. I only added the "Yeah" and "Amen."
