Description : Out of the 55 songs I recorded with Sunny War from December to May, well, they're all my favorites, frankly, but this is one of my favorite favorites. For some reason, the melody or the words of the chorus, don't know which, affect me deeply. I remember writing it in my head walking the streets of San Francisco weeping behind my black shades. Yeah I'm a fool like that. When I started working with Sunny, I finished the song and wrote the verse around her. That happened a lot in the songs I wrote during the Sunny Sessions - a melding of both our experience - as we learned more about each other over time. I had some more orchestration going in but trimmed it back and just let the guitar sing on top of the drum loop, she did such beautiful guitar work it makes me smile every time I hear it, smile with tears in my eyes. I really hope you like this one.

That's really brilliant...so smooth, calming and unpretentious. One cannot be surprised that this is one of your favorite songs. Deservedly so...:) Instant FAV !
Hey CM, what's there to say, beautiful... `Love your work with Sunny. I built that guitar for her, but evidently the pickup I used was bad so had to remove it with all the wiring arrrgh and now it's packed with all my other guitar projects, no shortage of those, awaiting my new home where I'm setting up a shop for building and recording. I'll let you know when it's complete and ready for shipping(be a few months). I found your site with the Sunny Sessions, great listening!
Hey phatkatz, no problem on the guitar. I may not be seeing Sunny for a while so you can always connect with her directly as well, you may already have thru Facebook, which is cool. In the last week of the Sunny Sessions, I got laid off from my job, which is hilarious. Perfect timing, cuz any earlier and I'd've had to stop. The six months working with Sunny were the most creative - and creatively satisfying - in my life. Sunny's not only a fountain of music, she's a magnet for it, and she pulled music out of me like never before. The songs came so easy, and the recording sessions were so loose and fruitful, with the three of us in the room (incl. recording engineer) becoming the tightest little song making team you ever saw. Man, it was beautiful. A very special time for me. I'm sad it's over, but then again I have 3 solid hours of Citizen Mofo ft. Sunny War songs to enjoy for the rest of my life, and I just couldn't be happier with the results. Thank you for all your support along the way! And have fun in your new home!
Maybe I have said this before....but if I heard this on my radio (which never plays anything this good) I would be looking for where to get the album...I suppose I could write a long list of whats good & what I like about this song...but suffice to say "Its all exceptionally good"...Have a feeling this one is going to stick in my head for a while...and hat has only ever happened with some of the tracks in the past I consider exceptional...like this is...congrats you two...fab track & big fav....Ed
Thank you, Ed. Feedback like this really keeps me going, especially coming from you, as you're pretty revered around this joint. I love the creating part, hate-the-trying-to-get-it-out-there part, but I need to slog through it so that more people can hear this stuff. Even just registering all the songs on ASCAP (55 of them) is a lengthy chore, and I am one of the world's great lazyasses. Give me a joint and headphones and I'm done. So, anyway, I really appreciate your feedback - it is very motivating. Thank you!
Citizenmofo i dont usually like vocal tracks but this one resonated with me and is a now a fav kinda reminded me of a David Gray style track. Really nice job on the vocals and all round mix especially as it is an acoustic track top quality it deserves to be a hit. Best regards.
Thanks so much, Xmachine. This is a special one for me so I'm really glad you like it. Sunny War, the singer and guitar player, is simply amazing. Thank you.
Thank you! Yeah I love it when songs just come into my mind out of nowhere and suddenly I'm singing it. Feels like gifts from the spirits... I appreciate your comment!
I think you have done an amazing number here.
If this came on my radio I would be presuming it was sung by a pro recorded by pros etc.
My first word with this is ... wow!
Thank you, Silverman. Sunny is a pro, a working musician but just barely scraping by. It's a damn shame because in my eyes she's a superstar - a guitar goddess with an angel's voice, I mean, what a package I was blessed to get to work with. It definitely pushed me as a songwriter. Had to bring in stuff that was worthy of her talents. The last six months was very very special creatively. Now I'm working through all the getting-it-out-there steps I should have already done, and maybe I can make something happen eventually...... Please check out thesunnysessions.com sometime when you have some time. All 55 songs are on there. Thanks again!
Awesome track CitizenMofo! Such a great beat that is chill with a wonderful groove. Sunny War voice adds so much emotion to the song. What amazing voice. The mix sounds solid too. This one's a Fav. Truly nice work.
Thanks, Shatner. Much appreciated. Yes, Sunny brings the emotion but it seems so effortless for her, she just stands unmoving at the mic, head cocked, and delivers. And the guitar comes just as easy. Music just flows out of her. We recorded this song in 2 hours, start to finish, and Sunny had never heard it beforehand, and the first draft was the final. Lucky me.
what a travelling song...faved from the first notes...absolutely my kind of music...chill, tripy, floating...it1s like past, present and future in life...
outstanding piece...is there any chance to get this song?
Thank you, Danke. This piece makes me happy in every way and I'm glad you like it too. This song along with all the others is at thesunnysessions.com. It's in the "Rising" album. "Rising" and "Burning" are the last two albums we did, one personal, one political, in what I think of as volume 2 of the Sunny Sessions. I think they're the tightest of the 5 albums. Please let me know if this works for you. Thanks!
Very honored to be the first one to comment this track, and a great piece it is!
I think that the last time I was in SF was on a three year old hiking trip away from my mother forever. No memories, maybe due to the recent head injuries. With this song I can imagine "something to carry."
Not a sort of song which I hear every day, but I'm happy that I did today! You've done something special, like times past, but new and real. I dig it.
Thank you, Spivkurl. That hiking trip sounds epic. And sad. And traumatic.
I think this song had something to do with my mother dying, although it was a couple years afterward. I wrote another song around this time, which I recorded with a different singer, that made me weep too. It's called "Just Let It Go" and it rose up inside of me when I was driving at 3 a.m. and made me sing it. Crazy things, songs. They can really mean something sometime - personally. But you're never sure if it gets across.
Thank you for your comment which made me very happy.

Description : This is a country/folk track in a genre I don't do much, so I thought I'd give it a go. It also has some instruments I don't use much, namely the banjo, mandolin and fiddle. I got the title from a movie I saw a few months ago. Hope you enjoy, Scott.

Description : I wanted to do something different like i do normaly. And I think that I was successful.
A -drum ´n chill folk song-. A kind of hippie music in colorful garb of the modern era.
At the end of the track there is a bonus.
Something in the way of bonfire music.

Description : I had the idea that this lyric could be rapped over my track but not having the skills to do that repurposed Joni's masterful voice - It seems a little jarring at first but I kind of like how it fits as it goes along - My multitracked classical guitar and my constructed beat from various vst kits and 'you know who ' sampled vocal (cut up just a little). Not sure about genre
Feedback welcome

Some part of the vocals sounds like if it is Dido.
The arrangement is perfect in this track.
No complaints with this one.
