This is really cool. I like this tune. I prefer the original Tears For Fears version of it, because the music doesn't really capture the mood at all, giving that keen sense of irony.
I'm impressed that you could do all this from memory. I knew it at one time, but forgot it.
It's cool to hear that you are saving up to restore that piano. If you can find the right people, it shouldn't cost you more to restore it than buy a new one, unless you have to outright replace most of the parts. I used to be an apprentice for a player piano restoration shop (Got laid off) back in 2004. I assisted with the restoration of vintage pianos and both vintage and modern player pianos, and most of the price comes from the fact that not many people do it. If you do a little research though, you'll find that it really isn't all that hard. Most of it just involves having a lot of patience. Cheers.
This extremely beautiful! You should definitely put this up on youtube and various other sites. This sounds as if ghosts from the past played the song and we, the present people, are just receiving it. I can't tell you enough how genius you are for creating this. It's almost one of those things where you go, " I should have thought of that". Amazing stuff. Highest compliments, bravo!
Thank you for the lovely review the piano was in a derelect squash court behind the pub my friend whos a drummer tuned it and never lost a string, the landlord of the pub said it had been there for at least thirty years. The piano now lives at my house and looks alot better, shes got new wheels and i am saving up to get her restored which will cost twice as much as buying a new one.One more thing I googled the serial number and found out when it was made and where theres not much missing on the internet.
Very well played! The hiss almost sounds like a wind storm from an old movie, well I have had a drink, lol. It somehow fits with the sound of the piano, weird. There is some character they way it is, cool.
Mad world has to be one of the greatest pieces of music around, from the original, to the cover in Donnie Darko, and all the covers around I have to say that your version ranks up there at the top. I think that still slightly out of tune piano you played it on mixed with the white noise from the mic in the cam made the music sound amazing, your playing was totally dead on and I wish I could play from memory that well.
Cool interpretation Ms.Plum....one of my best friends Campbell used to specialise in playing old piano's in pubs, did it up to almost the day he died....nothings better than real ambience and this has plenty of that...the hiss on this track can be removed easily you know then it would be really cool...cheers planet
Hey prof, loved the hissy scratchy piano sound, it does sound like vintage vinyl.Reckon Tears for Fears would love it, very haunting, prob due a re-release.Anyway have fun .Peace and love Sash
I actually remembered the Tears for Fears song within 15 seconds of pressing play. I think your version captures the sentiments better than the original, somehow. Maybe it's the spirit of the `23 Beale? Very nice and simultaneously haunting.
the piano was in a deralict sqaush court at the back of a pub i googled its serial number so know where and when it was born.It now lives in my bedroom with me i think shes happy.
love this track with what you have done with it and what you had to work with, brilliantly done, Good to see another Western Australian here :) I also are from a small country town down south called Esperance, have a couple more pub's you have there :)You up north or South??
im north in kalbarri at the moment but spent most my life in the kimberley ive not been to esperance but did come close when traveled the nullabor in a 76 kingswood still got her.Never bumped into casey chambers though lol.
ya-hay!! you done it again! I used to have an old jalopy piano. you can't beat em for turning out the atmospheric stuff which is what you did here. it reminds me of those "autoplay" pianos that have a metal cylinder with holes in. kind of pre-cambrian midi. I've always liked this song, and I reckon you had a laugh putting this one together..great stuff
the mood's brilliantly captured
somethings things are best left untouched and we love the fact that this was an off-the-floor, one-take number.
nicely haunting, like a foggy evening of inebriation

Description : There were two separate tracks in work, but who knows why I got tired with them and then decided to merge them (or at least what left from them) into one piece hence they originate out of same musical purpose. No worries...no world war was ment here, except my recent personal one...haha...and you don't want to know about it.:) It's not real etude by any means, yet it's quite alot about practicing...practicing...

Description : Again, another early production from like two years ago. I had a cheap little Yamaha acoustic guitar that I borrowed and mic'd and some congas that were given to me as a birthday present. I used my iPad GarageBand app to record the strings and the big bass drum thingy at the interlude and little electric guitar parts in there too haha. All the vocals were done by myself and my brother throws in some little things here and there with his voice :P Enjoy!
Description : A rhythm guitar track I made and sent to my cousin on the East Coast. Made with Tape-A-Talk app. from the Google Play Store. Download and collaborate with it.
