Description : Final mix before pressing to cd. Mixed through a pair of Yamaha HS50M studio monitors and mastered in Logic. This is the first track I have recorded using Logic on mac. I have had loads of problems with cheap laptops not being able to perform under the strains of daily teaching and recording use, so I invested in a Mac book Pro and I'm loving it! The power and speed of this thing is unreal, so more songs will becoming soon.
I have used the drum, percussion & a few effect loop patterns from Logic adding a various amount of amazing patches to create original sound textures. The bass, guitar and horn work is my playing with Alexander blowing a mean alto sax solo ( second solo in ). All feedback is a positive in my eyes as it promotes development as a producer and a musician.
Cheers, Slap...

nice ...am digging on that bass guitar brother....I love how pro your sound is...very very kool... I have no critic ... just great enjoyed every last minute of it ...keep 'em coming brother
had to edit it because it read I was digging the "ass" guitar... an that clearly is wrong on so many levels!!
Wow, Steve this is exceptional. Looks like you have more than figured out Logic. The mix on this one is really nice. Seems like you have everything sitting right where it is supposed to be.
My compliments to Alexander, he just keeps getting better and better (and I didn't think that was possible). Loved your harp work by the way, outstanding!
This track is a 10, but all your work is flawless. The title to this one is great :)
Hope you and the family are well. Thanks for posting this one. Straight to favorites.
Hi Bear, thanks for dropping by and lending this one your ears. Alexander is now studying jazz sax & piano in Manchester and WOW his playing has just kept lifting higher & higher. I hope all is well at your end and it's great to have you back here brightening the place up.
Listening to your songs after a long time! And here is another masterpiece by you. Great sax as usual...very lively. I really loved the energy of this track. Only thing I want to say is that it can be bit more longer and outro can be little bit more satisfying...but its just my opinion...overall great job done by both of you.
The Slap man is back !!...and what a track you have here. I like the balance of sounds that support your sax playing without any sounds being out of place. A well crafted and catchy tune. I have yon cheapy laptop and have immense glitch-problems but after listening to this I am persuaded to go forth and obtain a macbook pro. Very smooth tune and sound.....
Hi Daniel, I'm glad you like the track! I still feel I have a few tweaks to do yet, mainly in compression ( something I am trying to get the benefits of and to come to understand ). I have a whole album in production at present and I intend to make it the best creation I have ever made. Tall job I know, but posting on Looperman helps me with the feedback I need to push forward with this masterpiece of modern funk.
Cheers, Slap...
Sorry Slap, haven't been by in a while but this track more than makes up for it!! Great funk happening my soul brother!! haha
No complaints from me, just sittng here tapping my toes and getting into the groove. Sweetness all around, Alexander was excellent, great track! More cowbell, where's the cowbell?!!
Hi Wayne, I'm pleased you like the track and your suggestion of a cowbell will be looked into at the next mix stage. The tracks I will be uploading from here on in and for a Saxobones album, so any positive comments / suggestions are more than welcome. I will pass on you message to Alexander. Cheers, Slap...
I love the trills and holds on the sax, very saxy (sorry for the terrible pun, but I couldn't help myself). The harmonica is wonderful, I wouldn't change a thing...
Hi Carmen, thanks for taking the time to listen to this one, and I'm pleased you think it's saxy lol... I will drop by and give your songs a listen at some point soon. The stupid schools firewall stops me from listening to looperman stuff during the day, which is a pain in the bottom. Anyway thanks!
Cheers, Slap... Good luck in front of Piers Morgan BTW, the guys a rude SOTB..
Wow, a masterpiece that brings me back to the theme songs of seventies crime shows like Baretta and Kojak... and I totally love it. Very, very nice. Wonderful tone and excellent musicianship.
I'll need to listen again.

Hi Kikajon, I'm pleased you like the track, I love those funky cop themes also. Maybe that's where the inspiration is coming from, way back when I was a small boy watching The Streets of San Francisco, Kojak, Starsky & Hutch etc.. Now I look like bloody Kojak lol..
Cheers, Slap...
Hey slap another awesome production, your breath control is amazing on this one. I love the crispness and perfect pitch you get on your high notes.
I've had my eye on Logic for a while due to the limitations of Garageband and if it promises to do half of what it claims to I can only see the loop being graced with productions from out of this world from you. I concur with your comments on the mac as well, it does make for a more sane and pleasant experience.
Another epic production from you. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Spelljammer, I'm pleased you enjoyed this tune! I don't think it's quite finished yet in arrangement terms / mix, but it's almost there. I'm so pleased with Logic, the effect racks are unbelievable!!! You will love it .
Loving the freeform style of this track! I create hip-hop tracks but thats only because thats just what I do - I love a bit of funk, and have been playing the piano for over ten years (specialising in funk) and i think that the musicianship demonstrated here is superb! How rigid was the layout of the track? was any of it improvised? either way, I like the fast pace and the way each solo seems to slide effortlessly into each other. Good work!
Hi sherido, the whole track in a way was improvised due to it being an original composition. The track has sections which I suppose makes it rigid, but without structure how would things fit together! The improvising really comes into it's own with the sax and harmonica solos which were first takes. I will at some point drop over to your page and check some of your tunes out.
Cheers, Slap...
Great saxes as always! Alexander plays great too!
Do you play the harmonica in the end? Realy good.
About the song, it could be a bit more tight I think and I dont find the guitar/ bas part very strong in the verses. It could do with a little more attitude.
That's just my first opinion, hope it helps you with the track, but in the end, always trust your own judgement.
Hi Paul, thanks for dropping by and taking the time to review this track. That's my harmonica at the end, I haven't played it for a while so it was full of dust when I blew it lol.. I get your drift about the verse section attitude and I will look it to that for certain as the song gets nearer to it's complete version. I will add a bit of grit to those guitars to beef things up after listening again as I'm writing this. Sometimes it's hard to find a balance between filling the track up too much and leaving the required space for the solo to breathe.
Cheers, Slap...
Wow,Awesome Steve!I love this kinda stuff and you do it so well.
A very clean track and the stereo mix is something special with everything very fluid.Of course you know I love your playing and a big thanks for your huge contribution to our track...I was honored to play a few notes beside you :)
I'm looking forward to more new music from you!
Allen
Hi Allen, firstly thanks for dropping by and lending your trained ears to this song. Being a musician first and a producer second means it's great to get praise for both. I am trying to create a distinctive sound that's instantly recognisable as Saxobones. These tracks are going to be used for a cd release with the focus on producing a catchy and highly polished piece of work. I don't think I have finished this song yet, as the more I listen the more I hear what to change in arrangement and production. I will drop by and review some of your tracks soon, which I know will be graced by your wonderful playing.
Cheers,Slap...
Hey mate...I'm getting the feeling you pulled out the pork pie hat for this one!(Alexander needs one to!) ..I didn't grow up in Blighty so I might be a little presumptuous in my critique here,to me this is a totally British sound (well duh!..lol)..what I mean is the horn phrases and transitions have that 'Ska' factor, the unmistakable punch and delivery only found emanating out from the British Isles..it's got that street and club feel which is a hallmark Brit influence the world over...fantastic tune!..personally I love the Baritone (an instrument I feel you don't pull out enough...I used to love Gerry Mulligan as a kid)....I love the harmonica segment!..here again you keep this baby in your pocket far too often..(Larry Adler is one of my heroes)...it's inclusion to me always has this affect of contemporising the European influences within music and not the Blues which most people associate it with....great to hear your music Steve, every note you play regardless of the instrument always leaves a lasting impression, and one that we learn from..cheers Dave :)
Hi Dave, kind words of support yet again from my Ozzy friend. I'm really enjoying discovering Logic now, it offers a lot of super effects which are easy to manipulate to get the sound you require. I have been a huge Ableton fan / user for a good few years as you know, but the laptop side of the equation has always been the weakest link mainly because of low ram! This Macbook pro is a superb piece of kit!! It works great with Logic and the cpu is never under strain from the plugin usage. I thank you for dropping by and offering your support yet again. I'm off now to find Alexander a suitable pork pie hat lol..
Cheers, Slap...

Description : Continuing my journey with sampling. This was mostly an accident, and not where I originally thought it would go but I'm happy with the destination. I started with the track Real Reel Switcher by Eunice Russ Frost, which has a slower melancholy swing to it, however I've been playing a bunch of older video games lately, with SSX being in the mix heavily, so this track ended up taking on a bit of that for inspiration as well. Would love your thoughts.

Description : A Dark Funk tune , with a touch of Nawlin's jazz funeral procession. Midi-sparks asked me to do a Halloween song for his competition, and so here it is!
Description : Updated 12/2/2022. This is an interesting redo of a funky and fun composition. I gave it more polish by switching to a different drum kit, swapped the flute solo for a synth, then infused more flavor into the guitars, bass and organ. Then lastly tweaking the final master. Can you tell the difference? Let me know. Enjoy.
Description : This is the first production for STAR TRAVELS in collaboration between MICKY (LM) and JYNXZ (LM).
