hey, man! I love your sounds and mix. there is nice ethnic flavor in your mix, nice percs, brass. and the vocal is very chill. enjoyed the listen a lot. thanks. Dan
Second track you say that's remarkable where it is not quite perfect in the mix (that can always be improved with time ) you totally make up for that in the feeling, content and arrangement of this track . sound great keep them coming
Cheers paul
I never did any of the watching of tutorials you’re talking about. I actually hate those kind of things and it’s all too technical for me though would definitely work for some people.
I’m sort of too lazy to want to bother copying and studying other people’s techniques. That’s why I haven’t played a cover song (on an instrument) since aged about 17. I didn’t have the internet at all for the first few years of home music making so no chance of online tutorials anyway.
I guess I just spent lots of time developing my own sound and technique. Maybe that’s partly why I have an unsual sound and ways of combining instruments.
I still don’t have internet in my music studio so no chance of following online tutorials whilst in there anyway.
Little tricks from pros are useful (just partly as interesting ideas) but I think the best thing is your own experimentation (and getting it wrong) so that you see how you feel and react to sounds.
I always think the best way for me to come up with something good is to do things that inspire me more. So, just following what works for someone else won’t necessarily do that for me.
Anyway, you sound like you’re on the right sort of path so keep it up.
P.S. Check out the Sonicstate weekly music tech podcast. It’s a fun and interesting UK-US chat about music tech, bands and much more. Not at all just gear reviews! And it’s been running since 2007 so hundreds of hour-long episodes to download and enjoy.
Will defo check those podcasts out. something to listen to on the earphones while going about youre daily business, i dont have to be sat in front of the laptop. sounds like a plan.
Very enjoyable and deep track! I'm totally enjoying your vocal style on this one, and how they were recorded. This has a nice groove to it too, which is important. Fine quality work and song writing here! Fav'd!
Well, like Static stated, your learning curve has been about as rapid and steep as it gets. This one really sounds like it has been mixed in a studio. Really crisp and all of the elements in the mix are sitting exactly where they should be. I actually think the vocals work well in this....one thing you might consider next time is doing some harmony work on the chorus to give the vox a bigger feel in those sections. That's just a bit of nit picking on my part though...this one is solid from the very start and stays that way through to the end.
Well done, really well done. It will be fun to watch you continue to progress. You are rapidly becoming one of the ace production people on this site.
waw, now that is a great review. thanks a lot. yes, think I might actualy go backn and add some harmony. good suggestion. will actualy do that, I can hear what u r saying there. thanks again for the good review.
Graham.
Greetings. I'm very impressed with your production progression. Don't know if it's easier starting out these days with music production than when I did or if you're just a quick learner.
This sounds good right from the first beat. It's a simple but effective and tight drum groove. High trippy delayed melody is melodic and distinctive. Bass complements it really well and waiting 35 secs to introduce it is a good choice.
I'm not keen on the vocals or lyrics but that's just my personal preference. Others will feel differently.
Actually, the chorus of "It's greener" I do quite like, with the rap being my least favourite part. I actually think the telephone effect works well and provides good contrast.
Maybe a change would help this track though it works OK without.
Overall, it's a really tight production and I can't really fault it a great deal.
Reminds me just a little of Depeche Mode and Dave Gahan in places (probably that chorus).
thanks alot static. yes I feel it is sonically my best yet.
Think the answer to youre queary about learning is that it might be the style of learning I am using. I am constantly on utube watching tutorials and lately have been watching webinars by the top producers and essentialy copying the plug ins they recommend as best for vox or bass etc. and learning all the little tricks of the real pros as opposed to generic tutorials. I am sure this has helped me a great deal but I had to spend 3 or 4 months learning all the basics and the terminology before I could use this approach.
I def dig that track and the content and vocals, just need to remove the telephonic sound of them and this will be more towards amazing, as it has the potential to. Great vocals and music, just needs more deep to mid range bass!
This is your 3rd track ever? If it is, it's pretty good for even your 3rd. Great sound choice, deep vocals. Society is definitely subjected to being brainwashed all the time, it doesn't fool me though. Great work. peace
Thanks very much neo. yep track 3. got pro tools 8 months ago and have been watchin youtube tutorials and what not.glad u like it. just uploaded track 4 by the way and i am sure i have taken a step forward with it. hope u will check it out. Graham.
Definitely a very cool and interesting song! I dig it! Another song that makes me wonder about the guidelines for this Looptrack Challenge thing, because it's obviously not all loops. Not a big deal, I just remember the previous challenges being all loop tracks. Anyway, I really enjoyed listening! You are definitely improving! Fave!
nice use of vocals and piano samples. Good breaks between parts. Don't really like the double sample around 2:22. But yeah. Keep up the good work mate.
thaks friend for youre listen. glad u like it.
But vocals and piano were not samples lol. they were all me.
I will check out 2.22 fgor future referance. thanks again Graham
Not heard much Reggae, but liking what you have done here, in whole to me the track sounds like the jazz genre, or maybe a blend of the two genre's, either way it made for an very interesting enjoyable listen, excellent clarity and arrangement, had little chuckle when track started as I have the same vocal gun gun gun in my library but haven't used yet, so it was good to hear a track with them used, very nice track...fav'd...Peace n Respect man...Mosaic...
A Really good track, the vocals work so well, and I love the use of the bell. The synths and beat have a nice feel throughout, though a little more bass would have been good, there are also a couple of areas that need a little tweak... but overall a sweet piece of work.
thanks mark.think i knbow which areas need a tweak so i am going to keep workin this little by little till its very polished. cheers for the feedback bro
I really like how the vocals really fit in with this ambient sound that'll take you on a journey!! Vocals are the highlight of this song, and sure, it needs some touching but otherwise I like it! Definitely a contender for the top 4 spots on the Unique Song Competition.
Ah, that's why the synth I so liked seems so classic. I guess it's some classic sound in sample form.
Did you go back and add the extra bass after what I said or were you going to do it anyway?
Bass is decent but nothing spectacular. Could be better with a better synth bass sound.
I agree that the additional bass has made a positive difference.
Damn, I only just noticed the clanging bell. I guess you haven't added that. Maybe I just didn't notice it before. I think it works though maybe it's overused a little.
Again: excellent work for, I guess, a bit of a beginner. Probably way better than my earliest stuff. And it's not just more dub (not that that is a bad thing) so you're branching out nicely.
thanks again for the great feedback bro.
I actualy was puttin some bass in while u were reviewing last time so it made me smile when i came back to looper and you commented on it.
might have a go at making a synth bassline om the keyboard and see how that goes, as i am going to keep workin on this as i feel its one of those that if i keep workin on while i improve my skills it will be very good. cheers . graham.
I don't really want to get into discussing this song's subject matter so will just say I used to be "into it" but have since debunked many of the claims and misconceptions.
Anyway, the spoken word audio works OK as an ambient feature.
But it's the music I'm more interested in and this could be a good, standalone instrumental.
Strings early on work well, as does simple piano.
Left panned rhythmic synth 0:20 is very cool (bit like a guiro). Subtle and everything is sitting well here.
0:59 right panned synth is totally awesome and right out of all sorts of raves. Great delay on it, very psychedelic and the kind of thing I'd like to get into my music. How did you make that?
This also has a decent length and the beats are all absolutely fine.
You're getting better so big congratulations. I'm struggling to fault the music or production in this one.
Doesn't get boring and doesn't lack for anything. Bass is subtle but I don't miss it. I think the strings are performing a bit of that role.
P.S. There are songs by Beck and Senser called Chemtrails.
thanks for the great feedback static, to answer youre questions i made the piano on my keyboard and though i wish i could say the synth u ask about was my awesome new sklls it was simply a sample i found and added some delay to.
I have just updated the track with some awesome basslines and it has took it up a notch. hope u will check it out. Graham.
Deep trippy style you've got here! Interesting to know that you have an alter ego, that's a strange place to be I know. I've slowly become my alter ego, so keep in mind it could happen to you. You can definitely hear Salook's influence on this one, and that means only good things! Very cool stuff my friend! Faved!
thanks for taking time to check this out spiv.
Another fav from the spiv, thats pretty cool.
its too late bro mr hyde has already arrived, we are just starting another hip hop type track so perhaps he will make an appearance again.
