Seriously cool tune you've created here! The mix stood out right away as being an excellent example of knowing what you want and making it happen. Smooth and chill, but upbeat and full of dynamics!
I have very little experience on knowledge when it comes to motown or soul sort of music, but I can tell that this is a great nod to the style with your own added flair. Your bass playing, of course, fits right in with the style! Nice tone! A foam mute you say? Interesting.
One of the synthesizer arpeggiations there at the buginning totally reminded me of something I might design in a virtual synth. That's some sparkly stuff right there!
Well, I've got to go wash some dishes now. I'm glad I caught this tune, it's super fine! Fave!
Hey Dave! Surfing is a big thing here where I live and so are the shark bites, ouch. Any day you can walk down to the beach and watch people surf on a board, wind surf using a kite, paddle board, body surf... I can totally get the theme and feel of what you have going on. I love watching the surfing vids on you tube of these surfers and the music that accompanies them can be as good as the surfing itself and can set the tone, whether it's wipe-outs or successful big wave, the music always adds a sense of being there.
Endless Summer feel to the track, hot sun and blowing sand musically created helps to set the mood. Need to wipe the sand and sweat off my brow and head back in the water to cool off. ;)
I just posted a short Facebook video that sampled this track for a Class V rafting trip we ran this weekend; it took me an hour to find anything that worked, and then I saw the title to your track. Worked great, thanks for posting this!
Ok jamie your new here so I'll give you as little grief as I can about what you've done, while I'm pleased that you liked my track you have absolutely no right to use it in any shape or form without my express permission to do so, I own the complete copyrights to all my tracks posted here, unlike my loops which are royalty free and need no permissions. So because I'm a reasonable person I won't take any further action against you however if you do this again to me or anyone else here at Looperman it'll be a different story, not so much from my end but the other members won't be so understanding and will start proceedings to have you removed from the site and even litigate against you.
This is some good surf shit. Cool, very far out, mystical intro. No surfing yet. Not unlesss it's slow motion surfing on another planet.
Ah, here come the waves. And the gulls. Did you surf out far to get those sounds?
Then funky bass and guitar and a steady funk drum groove. Is that guitar clipping at all? I can hear a little bit of perhaps unwanted crunch though nothing terrible.
3:14 break for the waves to return and then a groove and vibe I much prefer. Nice and spacious and jazzy. I prefer the drums and laidback vibe. And more far out feel.
1:42-3:14 is decent but I'd probably prefer the track if that section were entirely removed.
Second half has some tasty little jazzy guitar runs. Very gentle and carefully considered stuff.
Overall: congratulations.
P.S. I have never got into surfing. Never done it at all. I prefer kayaking and should be going out on the river tomorrow. As if you need to know!
Hey man thanks for dropping in (I actually got whacked in the face for doing this unintentionally when I was a kid, some local (big) hotshot was so far back in the foam ball I didn't even see him until he gave me one on the way past!) haha true story...The track is geared towards film so the arrangement structure won't sit so well with more traditional song expectations, I guess it's just horses for courses in the end...I've seen guys using kayaks in the surf, they all got pounded! especially trying to get through the white water haha ...always great to hear your perspective..cheers Dave :)
I almost forgot I was listening to this. I'm at work and the waves came crashing in in the intro. Haha. 3:15 mwahh, love it. This is a nice mellow and as usual pleasant listen from you Dave!
Hey Pat, thanks for dropping me a listen, very much appreciated...when are we going to hear some of your totally awesome talent again? soon I hope! cheers Dave :)
I come to shake the Planet's tree. How are things Dave? Thank for the treat bro. This was quite the journey which I thoroughly enjoyed. It's a long weekend and I just finished recording and posting a sing and decided to give my tired ears some PJB. I love this song with it's jazzy rhythmical vibe, topped of with some great fusion and what is that I hear? Some very impressive guitar to go alongside that fretless bass. Great to hear your new stuff my friend ! Cheers to you and I hope all is well with you bro.
Hey mate great to see you in the Looperverse again!...man I'm looking forward to checking out your new track which I'll be doing as soon as I finish my reply here, mate I love playing the guitar so thanks for the props but I can only pray that one day I'll get to about 20% of your ability and that would do me! haha ...speaking of guitar just after I finished this track I rearranged my studio setup and in doing so unplugged the usb cable from my PodHD500, I'm always careful with my gear so I wasn't impressed when I discovered that the usb port's middle section on the 500 had broken, apparently this is a very common fault on an otherwise bulletproof fx unit, I've had the thing apart and replaced the usb port but I'll have to do it again as it's still not connecting to the computer, even if I can't fix it it's still programmable manually but even so it'll be a bit of a bummer, so take it easy with yours (mine was obviously built on a Monday! lol...man we'll need to get together for a collab some time! great to hear from you buddy..cheers Dave :)
damn that intro is so beautiful! it gives me a very arabic feeling? I'm not sure if its arabic for sure... but damn this is amazing very great job my friend.
Love that intro ambient and atonal. and then...1:43.....I can only describe it in the way my face made this expression. It´s the same expression you make when you build a bonfire and it´s freaking huge but still within the bounds of control and everyone just has this look of awe. The same look you and your buddies have at each other when this super hot 10 comes walking past all of you and you can´t help but acknowledge your shared experience. That guitar is so gritty with that bass line. Magical. You are a Musicians , Musician! BTW my Pop used to play tunes from the Ventures, Duane Eddy and also Dick dale, but this rides on a much more chilled path. Brilliant. Fav´d of course.
Crustanding ovation!
Hey Cru thanks man!..I love all that old style surf music and I wouldn't be at all surprised if it makes a comeback someday. I used to surf all the time when I was younger and if I ever move to a location where the water is warm! (lol) I'll take it up again, no doubt die hard skeg heads would call me a pussy, haha...That's very cool your Dad was into surf music, imagine growing up in a Hip Hop household, they'd be handing out prison orientation pamphlets at the breakfast table!..thanks again for stopping by mate much appreciated..cheers Dave :)
I love it when I get through reading the comments and the beat drops. Classic tune Dave, I freaking dig it!
You always hit the nail on the head with your low frequency ranges, and that is no simple task! Since I know you are a bass dude, I respect it even more.
This second part is dissolving into a massive psychedelic groove, and it sounds great!
You descriiption saying - "The horizon is the future, gravity is the engine and nature is the focus." It reminded me of a couple of things right away. Walking, most of all. Second were running and how I imagine it must be to master frisbee golf. This song expresses my feelings while walking very creatively, and if only for that I will fave and DL it.
Thanks for sharing this masterpiece! I've enjoyed it thoroughly! I'm so glad that the neighbors aren't pound fence posts just now!
Hey Pat thanks buddy!...there is absolutely nothing better than walking, it's the best way for me anyway to get the mind to function, you get random, you get focus, you get it all..never tried frisbee golf , but I like to think that myself and a ski buddy of mine invented ski fris back in 1970, we'd find a big open not too steep run and ski down passing the fris between us and we got some mammoth moves in, we had a ball but the weird thing was we encountered one big problem, after awhile the frisbees would break straight down the middle perfectly in half, the plastic got too cold and brittle, even my black super pro model busted! haha...thanks for taking the time to listen mate, I always value your opinion as I know you tap your creative compass from the source...cheers Dave :)
Was caught off guard a bit by the big atmospheric intro..perhaps expecting something bent more towards what has now become known as surf musuc (the stuff I first learned to play)..but man, this is (as I always expect) classically good PJB stuff...like the compositional thinking that sets the scene..brings in those elements (1st section) that say "Surf"...then evolved into a sort of a smooth Summery-jazz thing the could conjure up evening at the beach scenes..or city late night....Your are a big talent Dave..enjoy the way you arrange and play...but I can never ignore the production results you get...I have to assume you are a bit of a perfectionist with your art as it just shines...even when I thought I was pretty good at it, I could never have got those kind of production values..Fabulous bit of work...big fav for sure....much respect....Ed
Hey Ed thanks buddy!..it's interesting that "surf" music in the traditional sense is now relegated to a seldom visited pigeon hole and never (if ever) used by contemporary film makers, you get anything from deep house to rockabilly to full on dub, which is understandable seeing as the stuff we grew up on is prehistoric! haha..that's fine with me I'd never try and play The Ventures material it just wouldn't seem right, and apart from anything else I don't use a plectrum and could never pull it off. I've been checking out some Canadian dudes who do arctic surfing they are totally insane and what the do is totally brilliant, the commitment level required is nothing short of mindblowing....you ever get the urge to go tube riding while there's three feet of snow on the ground? haha....thanks again for listening mate, cheers Dave :)
OMG!!! this is so awsome this track, i love the intro and the changes in the track, loving that cool guitar, this is simply wonderful, a lovely album like this would be brilliant
all the best and well done
Hey Topclass...thank you for taking the time to listen very much appreciated and especially coming from another guitar aficionado like yourself....all the best Dave :)
Very nice track Dave. I like the ambience quite a bit, definitely something I can imagine listening to while sitting with a nice glass of something-or-other on a gorgeous day.
Nice use of delay, not too gratuitous but enough to embody that seaside-surf feel for sure. And as always, nice playing!
Cheers, Dave. Glad to see you're still around these parts.
- Matt
Hey Matt thanks man!...yeah that delay can be a two edged sword, I remember when Miles Davis (my hero) used it to excess in the 70's so I always keep that in mind, glad you enjoyed the tune buddy and good to see you back here mate! cheers Dave :)
As im a guitar buff i really appreciate the class jazzy guitar work which is very nice super clarity well played. Nice transition into the slower second phase i like the tempo overall its really fab track well done i hope you find a surf filmaker to make best use of it . Regards Robbie.
Hey Robbie thanks man!..good to hear from a fellow guitar enthusiast, I've never been into heavily distorted tones from the guitar in relation to my own playing I find it can muddy up the mix...apart from Hendrix that is! who used it with true artistic expression, glad you liked the track mate, all the best ....Dave :)
This is well cool.
This is summer.
This is music!
Not to keen on that long intro with sound effects.
This is way beyond needing such sound effects.
The title sets the mood/scene perfectly.
Absolutely love it.
Favourite.
Hey Silver thanks man, a very generous review mate!...The intro is intentionally long (though I agree if I was performing this it would be cut right back) as I've been watching a lot of short surfing vids on youtube and have been in touch with a few surf filmakers (with the intent to get them to use some of my music) the indications are that artistically an extended intro gives time to set up the theme and continuity for the films, with stills, montages and heaps of slow motion...thanks again for your time mate!..cheers Dave :)
Hey Zazekina, thank you for kind review I'm glad you enjoyed it, I'd like to listen to some of your material, I'm sure a collaboration would be cool! cheers Dave :)

This is very cool stuff Dave.
Nice groove dynamics and kind off chilly bass. Very well played and mixed.
The solo part is a bit funny kind of soul music :) and like someone said before - the brass is a little strange but in a way also very cool (cause it is just like something that says hey i am a vst but have all the rights to be in a modern soul like song) :) The trumpet is excellent, same the sax. Really nice work and very good to relax and enjoy.
Hey Joe, thanks man!..yeah I was arranging this to suit the impressions I had of James Jamerson and it never was meant to be a straight soul tune, though I did try and squeeze it into a soul cake tin, what came out of the oven was indeed a little weird! thanks for taking the time to listen mate...cheers Dave :)
Seriously superb. This is a mix I can study to learn how to mix. The bass is fantastic and the horns and sax are perfect. I love everything about this - except one thing: It ends too soon!
Hey MrMofo thanks man!..it's always a dilemma on how long to make a track, I usually always think in terms of longer tracks (Lp's back in the day) but we've been conditioned to accept short tunes by the radio I guess..next time much longer for sure! haha...cheers mate Dave/PJB :)
Great track Planetjazzbass! It has such an awesome vibe to it. The bass was my favorite part. I really enjoyed the ride you took me on. This one's a Fav and its downloaded. Truly nice work.
Hey mate, thanks for the review buddy happy that you enjoyed the track!..hit me up anytime you'd like some bass work done on one of those old school gems you produce, all the best man. Dave :)
