good solid track my dude, just need to work on the subtleties of the mix a lil more. Like the hi hat can be turned down and the synth too. I think it just takes away from the track, it turns into a focal point you know? Other than those two things nice track son...keep up the good work.

I join Pete, below, and confirms that it is a work remarcable. The basic idea is very good, although the mix seems a bit messy, but you have to hang to seek perfection. I truly believe that you have the means, both technically and musically. Take confidence in you. I especially love .... Respect.

I'm with you, throw some piano and orchestral strings in together and the masterpiece starts to unfold. Nice creativity building the track around this, this has a light pleasant trance feel to it, nice composition - DF

The piano right at the start was great, and so was Neos imagery. Very well composed, the strings were full of emotion, you've done a really good job on this song, I find it difficult to keep a changing melody going throughout a song, and some of the piano slides were absolutley stunning!

Beautiful, just needs some rain effects over the top and a decent movie director and you've got the job!

But in all seriousness, this is a beautiful track, and I'm really impressed with what you've done here. A faviroute from me.

Ste :)

It's much better than the original!! Loving the bass and Arp. And that reversed vocals are very good addition to this track. Also you have added great effects to the vocals. I really enjoyed this...Thanks a lot m8. Cheers.

Thought it was pretty good, reminded me of old new wave bands from the 80s. Your vocals were alright, I think with a little practice and some confidence with your singing you could do a lot better, it really wasn't that bad!! The vocals fit the music nicely, ya, old song but it was cool.

Thank you for the kind words, humps. I actually have started to get better at singing, thanks to friends bringing me to Karaoke nights and buying me many, many rounds until I go up there and sing. After awhile I started doing it sober. I think I can sing a lot better now, but not the style befitting the track.

Great idea. First the mix is interesting. I think you have many things going on in the front. Not all the sounds should be so bright and in your face. The vocals are ok. I know your situation so we wont get into this. But this might be a fun project to remix.
Marius9
Marius9 replied Unknown
Yeah, if someone wants to redo the vocals, I'll actually mix the song better, but until I get that offer, I'm just gonna keep it at this and be proud of how far I have come.

Thanks for the nice review. After listening to it on an actual system with a sub I realized just how nasty that low sine is on the track, and I'll take it off when I'm feeling less lazy.

Your cat looks amazing! I"m looking after a couple of my mates cats right now and one is as big if not bigger than the one in your pic! Haha! He's a handful.

Really like the track man, very nice synth work, very solid sounding production, very tasteful and the vocal is really nice touch.

Come check out one of mine when you get a chance and return the favour, different kind of music to yours but good all the same. Keep these coming man, enjoyed this track.

this is cool i have those 8 bit one shot clips didnt get the chance to use them yet.

great midi playing man this song rocks

Thanks a lot for saying so, I actually used a step sequencer for this track, so that the sound was perfect on timing. Generally I play, and occasionally if I feel a track needs it I'll fix errors in timing, if I'm not feeling lazy, but this one I actually took some time with and composed note by note, the way old school game composers did it (I don't actually know that, that's just what I think in my head). Also I didn't use any 8 bit sounds per se, I used the WASP "thinsaws" preset in FL studio, and 3 Sytrus sounds, but I don't recall what they are off hand. In the end, I guess I came out with more of a Super Nintendo sound as opposed to the Nintendo sound I was going for, but I like it just the same, glad you do too.

Thanks for saying so man! I thought the track was a little bass heavy once I listened to it on an actual system instead of just my headphones, but I'm glad to know someone out there digs it.

Its definatley something different to the original, the way the bass and the piano fit the vocals is strange, but it sorta works, and I loved it when the vocals were played backwards, but at parts, the vocals went out of timing, so you might want to fix that, and find an alternate to FL's piano, simply because, its unfortunatley overused.
Marius9
Marius9 replied Unknown
If you hear the vocals were out of time, you must have a really good ear, because I can't hear it, but at the same time, I really wanted to give this an improvish human feel to it, just a girl's vocals soaring over music. As far as the piano, are you talking about the piano sample itself or the notes being played in the mix? Because I don't hear many people using the FL keys a whole lot personally, and it's the most realistic piano sample I have found that doesn't kill my machine. I thought about using Kontact, but my system won't handle it. As far as the notes go, I think it's buried in the mix to where it comes out at the right times. Thanks for the honest and insightful review though, it's nice when you get someone who gives an honest answer to something, and actually gives it, doesn't just move on to the next track to spare someone's feelings or whatever.

Nice trancer Marius! Really cool pluck melody. I always love those man! Nice melody. I must bet honest that I do dislike the off-beat bassline, but this work nicely anyway man. I like the space (something I can never get right). Other thing that I disliked was the vocals (only because I like to listen to trance [sub: melodies, progression, drums, etc] instead of the vocals). Still sounding good though, nothing to take away from the style (vocal-trance) because it sounds sweet and you've done a fantastic job!

That's all my friend. Nice track!
Marius9
Marius9 replied Unknown
Thanks for the great review. I wasn't aware there was a distinction between trance and trance with vocals, I'll keep that in mind. I'm not sure what you mean by space, but thanks. I know what you mean about the off time bass line, but I'm not all that creative when it comes to bass lines, you'll notice the same bass line in almost every track, the only difference is what the notes are. Thanks again for the great review!

Hey man this is a Great Tune you've got here. The overall vibe of the track is kinda Trans Siberian Orchestra-ish if that's even a word lol. Liked it a lot thanks for sharing...

If it's not a word, I still know what you meant. It is certainly in the European vain, but that's just our overall sound. Just wait, there is more to come very, very soon...

i love the track a little crowded but i was wondering what synth are u useing i love it
Marius9
Marius9 replied Unknown
I am using a distorted short synth in sytrus, and the 80's bellpad preset in Nexus. The strings and bass are in the directwaves in fl studio. I'm not sure which one you're talking about, so that's all of them.

Thanks for the input, but we've decided on the Evanessence direction in 2004 and we still like the idea. Our goal is to be as unique as we can and still make money at shows, lol.

Great track, bro, in the vein of classic "epic" metal. The synth choir, bells, and piano remind me of bands like King Diamond and Mercyful Fate. And the guitar riffs are top-notch.

Peace,

great atmosphere good mix, not keen on autotune overworked but hey thas me
great seq's again by the way....
Marius9
Marius9 replied Unknown
Thanks for the kind review and I agree, I also am not keen on autotune, but when you get a pella that's out of tune with the VST that you're using (I can hear conflicts with Nexus and certain frequencies, I don't know what it is), you have to find some way to correct it. I could have tightened the vst a lot to make it seem like there wasn't any autotune effect on it, but that's major cheating, in my opinion, since I already think autotune is cheating. Thanks again for the review!

Great full sound, your seq's are xcellent what u use to build them? cello sounds fantastic, cant place the strings altho i'd have a stab that they aint real?? would love 2 know what was involved instrumentation wise but i guess thas your secret huh
brilliant composition mate
Marius9
Marius9 replied Unknown
To answer your question in short, I use my own two hands to build my sequences, then I put them into perfect time with a piano roll in FL studio. As far as the arpeggio loops and such, I use REFX nexus or Sytrus, and rarely do I ever change the preset at all, aside from maybe the filter here or there, aside from that it's all in the chord progression.
Instrumentation wise on this track, I used a strings sample (Damn, I thought they sounded real, now it's out, lol), "Clockworks" preset in nexus, a nexus piano, an FL keys piano, and your basic FL drums, but I changed the hihat to a hip-hop hi hat, because the original hi hat sounds terrible. The extra percussion is found in the "real drum kits" section of FL studio, and it is all just done in your basic sequencer. I think that covers everything, if I forgot something, I'll be happy to share it later. I got no secrets, buddy!
