I can imagine someone using this track to start off a dj set. Something really heavy and dark like techno, dubstep or drum and bass. This would really set the mood before another track comes in with beats and rips the ceiling off. Really nicely produced and a great atmosphere. Well done bro.
Thanks man. Appreciate the listen and the feedback.
PS - Just gotta mention that I love your techno stuff and will get to listening and reviewing your newer sh*t soon (internet's been painfully slow lately, but I'm getting a new connection).
Thanks man. Yeah, this initially was meant to be beatless track but midway through I changed my mind. I may come back to this and develop it further as a purely ambient piece somewhere down the line. Cheers again for the listen and review.
listened to the DFI 15Jul2011 as a set - dunno yr intent but to this listener it is an amazing album - i listened from top to bottom so the impression is of a distant 'object' approaching with a great culminating impact. deep listening fav applies to all - and even if you didn't mean these tracks to be heard in series, lemme tell you they work - an intense and beautiful set

outta the whole 20 bucks? you cheapskate! aw, ok count me in
You're too kind, MStokes. Thank you very, very much for the listen and the insightful review. I didn't intend this to be heard as an album or EP, but "Waves Of Grey", "Wilderness" and "Withdrawal" (just noticed all start with a W) were all definitely cut from the same cloth with the intention of invoking a certain mood and sustaining it. So yeah, I'd think of these 3 as an EP. I suppose 1992 fits in as well...a bit of brightness after all the grey. But "The Dentist"? Hmmm, actually yeah I think you're right. It could be easily fit in as the the last track.
Well, if I ever do commercially release my music, I'm coming to you for help in sequencing my tracks. I'll give you 10% of my total sales earnings, which will make you around 2 dollars richer. It's a deal you just can't refuse.
You're right, this is a little bit ambient! Sounds pretty cool though! I like the drums a lot! Good mix too! I'd like to hear that house remix! Nice work!
I love good neat but quite glitchy drums and fx, they're like sweeties for me. Well this track was full of great sweeties!
Really man, dig the drums and all those fx, and the jazzy and laid back feel of the track. Pure ear candy.
Production is perfect too, it all flows so well.. Great mix of genres and sounds, great track.
The dark mood you managed to create here with glitches, hollow pads, heavy beats and bass and all is absolutely amazing.
But one can find in this avalanche of darkness some relief too, there were some parts, with lighter pads, that sounded like a shelter. That contrast makes it even more beautiful and fascinating.
That was a wonderful trip SGN, especially with the headphones. Definitely faved.
Thanks a lot Alxsix. And yup, this is meant for headphone listening, as is most of my music. Although this does sound pretty decent played really loud as well...the bass stabs in particular.
Quincy Jones meets Boards of Canada? I think you've just topped yourself on the hyperbolic praise scale Alivid. Seriously though, thank you very much. It does mean a lot that someone as talented..okay I know you don't like that word..someone as good at producing music as you likes this sh*t. It would mean a lot even if you had never made a song in your life, but it means a little bit more considering.
And yes, the 320 is on it's way. I was gonna send it anyway, but I'd have to be a massive d*ck not to especially after the aforementioned pinnacle of hyperbolic praise you so kindly bestowed upon me.
That last bit sounds like I've just flashed back to the 18th century.
Glitch is a genre that is rarely seen on this site due to the lacking amount of people who produce it, so when I saw this its like I had to click it. I'm glad to say that I wasn't at all dissapointed with this track. The slow beeping noises over the top of the wind effects, bass drops and other FX were fantastic. The whole atmosphere is incredibly dark. Its not the sort of thing you want to listen to by yourself in a dark room, because you will be scared. The pads midway though are quite nice though, and sort of bring a peacefulness to the darkness that the track engulfs the listener in. The vocal(?) sample in the middle is pretty awesome as well, and the tinkling bell noises are insanely relaxing, but it always feels like theres something not quite right, an uneasy feeling amongst the happier noises.
This is quite an incredible piece of music, able to invoke contrasting and conflicting emotions into the listeners mind.
Thanks for the great review, Stephen. I was initially gonna put this track under "Ambient", but then I thought people looking for a normal ambient track (you know, something you can just close your eyes and relax to) won't exactly enjoy this. I'm glad the "glitch" part appealed to you.
This initially was mainly a peaceful ambient song with the glitchy percussive bits and dissonance in the background intact, and the initial "dark" part was just four bars, but then I decided to develop the eerie side of it and that was probably for the best.
Anyway, thanks once again for the listen and the review.
Hey SGN.. You were right... I love this track. Its spacious simplicity is something that always chimes with me. I find that the stripping away of the extraneous instrumentation, that is so easy to add to build up a track, is often the best way to find the 'heart' of a musical piece.... You really found the heart on this one.... Beautiful.
I note that you wrote this in FL9... you really found a way to humanize this track and it's a great testament to your skills as a writer/producer... You have a new fan.
"Spacious simplicity" is something I don't often strive for, but for some reason I did so on this track. Probably must've been the lack of sleep, but yeah I think it worked for the better here.
Thanks for the listen and the kind review. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
uff nice mood. Liked the bass/drumkit. Really took me somewhere pleasant. Defo felt more ambient than Electronic. very nice mixing and fantastic overall sound. A soft vocal could really add something
Yeah, I had thought of adding some vocals but I couldn't find a sample that fit. I probably need to look harder. Cheers for the review and the suggestion.
Very creative soundscape! I like the dirty bass very much! You've used some really interesting synth sounds to build up this mix! Definitely has an ambient vibe to it, which is cool! Very nice work!
This is mysteriously relaxing, taking you to some peaceful place full of wonders. Really dig all the different fxs and sonic events. Thanks for the great journey!
WOW so realaxing with vision of waterfalls and tranquilatiy, very beatiful sounds and thanks you for creating a beatiful pradise in my head with ur song
I liked how it opened up, it set a nice tone right from the beginning. Calming but it has an edge to it making it a bit, ummmm, edgy, haha. That's me, man of a hundred words, haha!!
Nice track overall, the mix was sweet and it was a bit ambient, chillout in a way but what's in a genre. Great job for the year end challenge!!

You know?... I mean, I am just drawn to it. I can't help it.
It sounds wonderful.
I would buy a effing t-shirt. I would rock the SGN, and be like "It's SGN!!!!"
lol
I am a fan.
May I have a 320 please!!!!! :)
(You should get AJ, Becca, and Dextdee-- local looperman DJs and others to play your music also)
