Definitely feels like there is "something" missing but this is a great track and you laid down such a sick foundation, you can really have fun with what to add to this. Some horns, another bassline, some keys...possibilities are endless.
But as I said, a sick foundation. That wah-wah guitar is great. Reminds me of some Get In Where You Fit In/Cocktails-era Too $hort track done by Ant Banks. Props man.
Dude, I love those Axe commercials but this is sick. Great concept and lyrically, you are fresh. This is getting fav'd and downloaded and...hmmm...I can't seem to find the link for "add to my blowing up the ipod list". You'll just have to take my word for it.
This track totally brought back an awesome memory of when I was coming home from a house party on Halloween and I stopped at the skate park by the train station to spray paint a poem about police brutality. The drums reminded me of my drunken, racing heartbeat and those strings reminded me of the spray of the can. You had that one sound that I can't name that sounded exactly like when you shake a can of paint. And those mallets? Eerily reminiscent of the transit police who were no doubt tipped off by some evil doer.
Thanks so much for sharing this and bringing me back. I'm gonna download this and add it to my "Adventures in Vansterdam" playlist. Cheers.
Wow...The pleasure is all mine! :D
It's awesome to know that a track hit home for someone, and when they share it; it's such a glorified feeling. Thank you :3
I can definitely see an MC coming with something grand on this. The beat just has that swagger to it. Thumping bass drum, crunchy clap and powerful horn stabs.
I don't know how you normally feel about hip-hop but you bring something fresh to it without making some butchered hack job disguised as hip-hop. Nice track, man. Really dig it.
cheers jack!
i spent a good hour on that beat, coz the beat really makes a hip hop tune. i wasn't sure that i did it justice but then again it's my first effort, although i did like that clap (about 3 layered claps).
thanks jzck, i will deffs be making more hip hop tunes now!
Well not right now but this definitely has that underwater sounding feel to it that is always appealing to stoners (at least me, and those I know). This really hits hard around 2 minutes. Great development too. Slow and murky, I love the pace. It reminds me of a line I heard in a rap song about "flowing like arachnids from water spouts". Ill, dude.
Crazy atmosphere to this track, props to your creative panning on the individual sounds. I really like how you used Holly's vocals. They sound more like another instrumental element in the track as opposed to something that is on top of the track. You got a real Flying Lotus sound going on here.
Can't really give you any suggestions. My judgement is clouded by the fact that I'm definitely feeling this. Props.
Not that you care, but this is banging man. If I could do changeups like you, I would probably induce less vomit. I like the breathy, echoed vocal sample you used too. Fusion is definitely the right genre but the hip-hop is strong in you, master gizzard.
This song is the opposite of wackness.
As for the levels, they are good to go from head to toe. Nice track, bro.
My favorite part of this track is your creative drum arrangements and use of effects on them. They allow the powerful, changing melody to remain at the forefront without losing a sense of beat or tempo. Very creative.
I would love to rhyme on this but I don't wanna say I will because I'm already working on some stuff of my own and there was a Sweeney track I've been dying to get on. I'd love to get back to you later on about getting on this. If you want to hear any of my rhymes to see if you think we'd be a good collab though, feel free to check out my tracks.
Your description was perfect. If I was to think "how do I bring that classic jazz christmas feel into the future?", it's hard to imagine not being pleased with this answer.
I love that horn and drum break you have going on around the minute mark (and again, at 2 minutes-ish). The percussion break you bring in and out after 3 minutes ish is another highlight.
Awesome track man. Thanks for sharing and happy holidays to you too.
Definitely got that gangsta-ass bassline. You made this on GB, right? I recognize some of the samples as I've used them in various tracks myself. It's always nice to see what someone else comes up using the same parts.
I almost picture myself in a cave or jungle, hunting and being hunted at the same time.
Chilled vibe on this. This track constantly felt like it was building to some huge explosion, especially with that brush drum sound going throughout. When the explosion never came though, I wasn't disappointed.
Nice to hear some fresh takes on hip-hop. Thanks for sharing this.
thanks for the comment..i know what you mean..for the explasion...but im not a pro at this..i go with the flow and what i feel....I didnt know how to classify this tune..check out my other ones..different styles...Peace..happy holidays to you...
First track? Props. My first track sounded like...well, nothing like this. If Timabaland was a member of the Beatles, he probably would've made music like this after meeting the Maharishi. This is ethnic booty funk. Straight up.
I'm with E, the sounds blend in nicely. If anything, you may just wanna listen to see what sounds you personally would prefer to be in the forefront and which ones are supporting, but that's nothing more really than a panning adjustment. As far as levels go, it's great.
At first, I was like "what is this?" but after about 30 seconds when the beat kicked in, I just felt it. Bordered on sounding too "computer-made", if you know what I mean, but you did your thing. Really like how you arranged that main melody.
You're right about Weezy...he probably would kill this track.
Damn man. That was nice. Sometimes bells and chimes and other high sounds can get annoying over and over but I liked what you did with the other tracks on this to keep it moving, setting a scene in the process. Well done.
When I first joined looperman, one of the first samples I got was that synth bass loop you had going in the background. It's on a beat being held hostage in a hard drive of an obsolete computer. When I heard that, it was a trip. That story is probably more interesting to me than it is to you but I thought I'd share it anyways.
rei made a comment about your track having moments where you close your eyes sand it's just the song. that hit it on the head for me. i like the sparseness in this track, it lets you showcase your voice, yet another instrument you seem to be apt with.
I really enjoyed the sax solos, especially the one you ended the song with. Thanks for sharing this, man. Just great.
that bassline is sick and works great with your drums. if anything just be a bit more sparse on some of the synth elements. at times, it felt like you brought too many at the same time there. individually, they are all hot but all together at once, it sounds a bit crowded. otherwise, this is next level homey. feeling this.
Appreciate the luv. I dig that bassline too but I was thinkin about sustaining it a lil longer instead of changing it. I was diggin how it sounded at the very beginning of the 1st verse. B-EZ Fam
The organ chops are sicker than...chopping someone's organs. Creative use of the water drop sound. I like the break at the 1:30ish mark too, gives the track some breathing room.
I'm with skittzo...this track is grimier than loosies from the bodega.
When I got to the end of this, all I could think about was how much this sounds like a direction Trent Reznor might have expanded from post-The Downward Spiral. It almost feels like you are confronting someone because the music has this vibe like it's your "backup" or "muscle". Interesting.
Good contrast between the emcees, you guys play off each other well. First cat came in on some authoritative flow. Second dude was on that smooth ish (his vox were mixed a bit low though).
As for the beat, feeling it. It's something you can ride to or just throw on at a party to get it live. That synth bassline especially had me vibin'.
I also noticed the track skipping at points but you seem to be aware of that so I'll leave that.
Overall, nice track dude. I'll be checking out for more of your stuff in the future. Props.
yea thanks for the review pimpin, and the the props. I know it was skippin a bit the reason for that was that i had converted the tracc from wav to mp3, and someone had let me it was because at the bitrate i converted at. But thanks again, i 'll make sure to checc out your material as well.
I really liked how the guitar changed up around 2:30ish and then went into a whole new riff around the 3 minute mark before coming back to the original tune. great playing on it throughout, kudos.
It really is a happy track. I could see this on a Body Break commercial. I'm afraid only the Canadian looperpeeps are familiar with Body Break.
I like where you're going with this. On the subject of it maybe being overly cluttered, I think it's just the business of the drums. Let the track breathe a little here and there, maybe pan some of the stuff and you'll find it more open without losing the elements you had in mind.
In the end though, hip-hop has always been an amalgamation of different genres and sounds so don't worry about appealing to others or making what someone else feels is "real hip-hop". I've heard your other tracks and I'm a big fan. Just keep experimenting and you'll come upon your own version of what hip-hop is and it'll be as real as anyone else's.
this is the best of your tracks, in my opinion. The piano and drums have a distinct Hell On Earth-era Mobb Deep sound to it and those guitar licks you added in give it your own touch. Nice track.
This is hella catchy, man. My only suggestion would be to throw in some other sound either over or in place of the trance synth at certain points so it doesn't get too repetitive. The makings of a heatrock are in this though. Peace.
The melody here is illy. Only thing I didn't like was the snare and clap you used. They seemed a bit weak and ill-fitting for the track but everything else is sickening. Can't wait to hear the full track. Nicely done so far, man.
