It's really refreshing to hear something like this on Looperman. Your vocals are just spot on, and I love the quirkyness of the backing. I guess the only thing I can suggest is having some more layers to fill it out. Very unusual hi hats(?) as well, I love it.
added after mate. Although i have liked his style for a while, just looking for something to fit. Its not a spot on fit unfortunately - i think it could be better. Plus its not very long, but nevermind!
These chords are amazing. Perfect vocal melody to fit. As you say, this needs more work, I would say in mastering. Perhaps the beat is a little loud. Also, it sounds like you need a better microphone. I'm assuming that's where all the hiss is coming from.
But again, those chords... excellent.
Another powerful floor filler. Well mixed again. You've obviously got a good knowledge of FL Studio. Just on thing, the bass is slightly out of tune on bars 3 and 4 of the loop.
Nice use of those vocals. This track is a killer! Great mix, nice to see someone using FL Studio really well. I love that synth arp thing that comes in around 2 minutes.
This is nice. Love that airy bass that comes in half way through. That repeating piano is quite striking, nicely complimented by the pad underneath. Only thing I didn't get was the rushed ending. Been a calm track the whole way through, then got thrown off a bit by the sudden finish.
This is not bad at all. Nice and simple, doesn't really need much to spruce it up. Good fun track, would probably work well on the floor. Where did you get the samples from?
I like the really spacial, quiet mood to this. I wouldn't say this was a floor filler, but perhaps a soundtrack piece. I'm getting visions of the old PS1 Ghost in the Shell game. A sort of American 80s/90s house feel to this, which is quite charming.
Where were you planning to go with this track? Is it going to get heavier when the bass kicks in at the end? Or are you trying to keep a similar mood throughout?
Yeah, you can really tell you've put the effort in here. Unfortunately I had to listen to this quietly, but mixing sounds absolutely fine. I'm enjoying that mega glitchy beat, sounds like it was more work than a few copy+pastes. Usually I would've said something about those horrible fake violins, but somehow it really works in this track. It was a great melody, and very nice subtle harmony with the keys underneath.
This is really promising if you really havn't been making music for that long (I read your profile). The track is so simple and un-complicated, works really well. Those dirty dirty synths are used to really good effect. The beat is exactly what it needs to be, no useless frills. The only thing I'm not so sure about is the notes as the track starts. F to G then E sounds a little happy, in a way. I would have done F to F# then E, but perhaps the way you've done it makes it stand out.
it's the truth. im still very amateur with this stuff. not to mention my musical knowledge is almost non existent. i just go by ear and tweak it til it sounds the way i hear it in my head lol. i can't say im on the same page when you tell me about the notes that i should change. I'll look em up and give them a try though.
I'm really glad that people who do understand music are enjoying what i come up with too, it's a good sign haha.
thanks alot,
TJ
Gotta love FL Studio. Nice to hear somebody els appreciating it's greatness.
I was a bit suspicious about this track at first, thinking it was just going to be a samey instrumental or something, but once everything came in it all sounded so full and vibrant. I love all the layers you brought in, it brings a lot of energy to the track. I could see that a singer would benefit the sound, someone with a powerful voice who can do ballad type stuff.
Heck yeah! FL studio is very powerful if you know how to use it. Thanks so much for the review, I honestly wish I had singing talent, otherwise most of my tracks would have vocals haha.
This has got to be the most mental dubstep track I've heard. Some interesting synths, really raw and powerful. Perhaps towards the middle it got a little repetetive, but near the end where everything starts getting really hectic, that was really enjoyable.
This is good stuff. I had some reservations when that delayed percussion thingy came in, but with the pads and those guitar synths I really went into it. You've made a really good job of those guitar synths.
In terms of mixing, can't help too much as I had to listen quietly due to a sick mother below me, but it sounded fine to me. Which bass was it that you thought sounded to heavy? And did you just keep it short for Looperman or is that fade out the end? Because I can see how it works with the fade out, but I'd love to hear a mix where it carries on with that beat.
Hi CircumPrecision, glad you liked it! It took me a while to get it right but eventually I think it worked out ok. Im not sure if the bass was too loud... ive been using these headphones that dont give me a the natural sound, so can never tell what its like on speakers. So i get paranoid! I faded it mainly because I felt it needed to carry on forever almost... There is no longer track, but I could work on it and see what comes next! I'll let you know if I do! I hope your mother gets well soon. Thanks again
This is a really soothing track. Great blend of metal and chillout type guitars. Are those drums live or programmed in? You thought about getting anyone to do vocals on it? I think that would really push it out. Either that or another layer of lead guitar that acts sort of like a vocal line.
Good job in terms of mixing. Can tell you've spend the time on it.
Hey CircumPrecision (minor smile due to the nick).
Thanks for a great review. Vocals have been done, just look up the second upload of this song - I'm pretty sure you can find it on my profile. The drums I've been programming since I'm not a really good drummer in real life. I'm glad you can tell its been spent some time mixing this. Makes it worth every second.
Thanks again mate, and I hope you take some time listening to the vocal-version.
Pretty cool track, I like it. Reminds me of the music off Quake 2! Nice way you used the guitar riffs. I would say the drums could be louder, especially where the guitar comes in.
Thanks for the review...I did have a film in mind when I made the track...Mario Bava's Shock. The beginning of the song was meant to replicate the ambient choir in the song that appears in the opening credits in that movie.
I really like this harmony. Got a good, strong bassline there. Very nice melodies. That guitar fits in perfectly too.
I think this could definitely be finished off with some vocals or something.
Perhaps you could just bring the levels down a bit. I can hear some distortion where everythings a bit too loud, especially when the bass comes in.
That first half sounds really Joey Beltram-like. It's a good loop going on there.
I like this second half, got a good groove to it. That chord on the keys goes really well with that bassline.
This is a really nice track. I love the chilled vibe. You've mixed the vocals really well. Really sounds like you know what you're doing on this one. How long did you spend on it?
Only thing I'd say is not to list it under Drum and Bass maybe.
thanks for your post. this track is something different from the rest of my compositions, a little slower and with a rhythm section more disco. I like to combine styles. 15 hours later to do more or less.
That was nice. Excellent use of delay on those vocals. Sounded really haunting.
Was quite a dark dance track, nice edge on it that you don't hear much.
I reckon you could've gotten away with this track being a little longer. It was good enough to warrant an extended mix. I know it's a trance track, but perhaps with one or two extra minutes, maybe a passionate build up before the finish, would top it off for me.
That beat was something else. What the hell gave you the inspiration to do a drum beat like that? I tell you what, it reminds me a little of 'Half Life' by Dom & Roland.
I haven't ever used this Muzy freeware thingy. How do you compare it to FL Studio?
I started out on Fruityloops early versions and then changed to using muzys which is free with Computer Music and various vsts plugged into that. I believe that what you use is fairly irrelevant cuz all modern software is good. What matters is not the program so much as the operators knowledge of it. You seem to me to be getting on well with fl studio and the more you use it the better your tracks will get. Changing programs tends to get in the way of the important thing which is bangin out beats ! I think modern versions of fls are better than what i use but i would suck at using them . Glad u liked the track.
