not something I check out on a normal basis... but I thought hey ho why not...
the whole track for me feels a bit disjointed to me...like maybe it needs something to bring it all together... a piano perhaps... or even something as simple as a pad might be the fix for that...
but having said that the post production is great...
these violins were VST, via cakewalk's Sonar X1. i do appriciate the honest reviews, there so hard to find. i am limited by the upload limit, but ill make up some more loops here soon for other to play around with. otherwise if your interested in hearing some more of my stuff, i got some on soundcloud that i cant upload here yet.
the start is a nice idea...for me I would have put a nice reverse in there so you as the listener could hear the drop coming...
as far as the bass goes I think it probably needs a little top end to add to the roundness of it...
the drum track needs something...some break downs..ya know? sudden stops? I would add some sfx? and also some crashes...brother there really they make all the difference...
having said all of that ... I did enjoy the listen you got some nice ideas going on here even if it does end very suddenly..
Thanks for the review man, I made this one in like 2 hours and spent most of the time trying to get the levels and stuff right. Off the go make some crazy drum break downs and spend hours and hours finding decent sound samples. Cheers man!
I think some of those vocals could possibly be taken out because of the over all feeling of the track I don't think their as needed in the main as they are their are in the break down...
the drum track for me needs to be thickened either with layering loops or adding in one or two shots...also you need to mix it up a bit it tend to get a bit monotone... so some fills wouldn't go a miss..
over all a nice idea... I'm not into this hiphop based dance as most but I did enjoy the listen...
He He shouldnt that be sister? Anyway thanks for looking i know this isnt your usual type of music, but, glad you listenend anyway. great advice, will take it on board, thanks a million :) smiles
some really nice stuff here brother... I'm liking the whole laid back feel to it...
for me though theres a touch too much reverb on some elements it kinda leaves them feeling like they're part of a track play in another tab I've got open...if you get what I mean...
I do like the track don't get me wrong the drum track and the bassline are fantastic... I would have liked t have heard a few more of the other elements..
Could you email me and tell me what elements have too much reverb on them? A few I could think of are the Pad and the Rhodes.
A few things I wanted to do was add another drum loop/track to give it more flavour but as you can hear it does sound nice.
I did add a few things (effects) so give me a shout as to what you think of the additions. :) Thansk for your words man! Appreciate them!
I'll hit one of your tunes up!
Steve
first of let me say hip hop aint my thing at all... and that your post probably made alot of people check out your stuff...
not sure if thats brave or stupid... you decide..
there are some really good ideas here brother...
I personally would have added a clap on that snare or a rim shot just to add abit of character...maybe alternate kicks to add a bit of groove/bounce to your drum sound...
the pads are good and I'm digging that vocal but half way through I'm thinking maybe this needs to go somewhere else because it becomes a bit mono tone and samey...
I would ahve added some more sfx to add texture nothing too heavy but something to make it a little less two dimensional
for me though you gotta work on your post production... the fading in and fading out was really annoying... I had to keep adjusting my own volume because of it... try using a filter to cut the low frequencies on that drum track to build sort of a drop....
having said all that I would say I enjoy it as much as I can enjoy instrumental hip hop...
Hey I didn't really think that one through fully, As far as the track it was done years ago and all I have left is an Mp3. I would have done many things differently now. Mostly in effects and the actual cohesiveness of the song, but i still love the ideas in it.
Thanks man! I dont take it as an insult i understand exactly what you mean! Im trying to listen to as many styles of rap as possible at the moment, Eminem is one of them! I always take constructive criticism into account, yours has been most helpful and i appreciate you taking out the time to help me!
great track brother....... not even sure I'd class this as hiphop ya know?...
I would have loved to have heard those kicks a little more in the mix maybe even the addition of 808 kick one in every 4 bars to extend the texture if the drum track... thats probably just me being picky though..
nice track I enjoyed in even though hip hop aint really my thing ...
Imma happy to hear that you're feeling this
track ;) as fore tha kicks I know what you mean....
Only reason I didn't try beefing it up with another
layer is case tha sub from tha bass was getting drowned
out...:/
My slowpokedness is slowly wearing and I will transfer this all to you!
I used those previously mentioned VST's. Dblue's glitch (horribly apparent to me, tape-stop 1 shot)
The Trip out part is intricate volume gates. Basically on every transient note I cut the volume completely, then after resampling it's just a matter of waiting for tracks to finish rendering.)
But anyway, I hear the bass, I never even tried.
I will make sure to send the drum track, that's all live stuff... Ableton 8 and KJ sawka samples now that I think about it!
:)
definitely something I'd be into working with others live ....
this whole thing gets a little lonely doesn't it?
anyway ....
a cool track brother reminded me very much of some of the live stuff Jay Z does... nice
maybe a little too much one the crash for me...but maybe thats just me... because the drum track is great... I just get the little niggling feel that those crashes need to come down in the mix....did you record this live?
Yeah, you are totally right... I am still trying to find the right way to layer the last two drum takes with the whole piece.
Cause it's kinda just Intro, verse, and then it just floats on lol..... Gah, yea, it's live tho. I will try and lower the side-chain.. I think I was being a dummy and trying to side chain the cymbals to mah snares and mess up something.. I knew when I did it, but I was too tired and my ears hurt lol
some good ideas here...reminded me a of underworld... but after a while it does get a bit mono tone.. maybe try adding in some drops and some other elements to mix it up a bit... a bongo to the drum track would work really well in this track... I would also add a sub line to really get heads bobbing.. the mix it's self it ok the EQing needs a little more work for me the top end needs to come down but thats just me..
like I said some nice ideas... keep em coming brother
Yea, the drums are to made like that, gives the amen later more room to flex.
Thanks man - there's another track coming up (fissure) that I think has a lot of potential! :D
Thanks for listening mate, and keep it locked!
I'll hit up one of your tunes...

that bass is off the hook brother...maybe a bit of layering would really bring it out... I can totally heard all those influences in there brother...a nice groove.. keep 'em coming brother
Thanks Bro for the comments!! Been a while since I have been here but got a couple of new ones I will upload next week just got a little twiking to do!! Thanks Fila
soem nice ideas... it is a bit sparse in places...but very very very very 80's brother...how old are you? it was like something by the cure or something...nice guitar work ...you or a loop?
i used mixcraft, it is like a program, i guess it was different sounds/loops, i was in a moment and wanted to write somethin deep, then thats how i organized d beat, lol
nice and dark brother...digging the atmosphere you got going on in the track..kept me interested you know?.. for me I would have added a few more fx and a little less distortion on the ones you have got in there..
maybe some drops...or that thing the grime guys are doing...you know?
stop..gun cocking..back to the beat..
try listening to OdotZED here on the loop for a idea of what I mean...
anyway I enjoy the listen thanks for sharing brother
Word.. Appreciate the critique brother. I hear ya on the suggestions. I'm glad you like it a bit because this is the first track on my ep that I want to send to you.
Yeah I've been checking out OdotZed on the grime tip. He has been giving me suggestions and advice as well.
Thanks again man! I'll have some new fresh stuff up soon and expect my ep shortly...
hhmmmm... some nice idea brother... I do think that maybe it's a little long at 6:32...an I would have add some more fx just to keep the listener happy but having said that it does sound like a track designed just for the dance floor rather than listening in ya room on a monday afternoon.. I have to say this is really not my genre.. but the track is well produced and nicely put together...keep 'em coming brother
Thanks man.
Yeah. It's trance ^^ That's working like "this and that... Repeat, repeat, reapeat... Buildup here a bit... Repeat, repeat, repeat... break or techy part... transition to main theme... repeat, repeat, repeat... Damn! 27minutes is to much! delete, delete, delete... Yeah. That's great" ;)
Ok... not THAT bad ^^ but you're right. It's more something to listen in the background to or an a floor. It doesn't take too much attention from the listener ;-)
but i'd love to hear this song on a floor... I think it would be quite nice...
oh my... just knocked me out of my chair brother... nice...this is wicked... I have no critic at all..massive tune faved for sure..keep 'em coming brother

for me you need a bass line to be more prominent to drive the track along a bit more....
some crashes on that drum track would be most welcome as would some more variation... a few fills etc...
or so the track did end really quite abruptly... you need to work an outro or something in there...
some great work brother...just needs a few tweaks to make it pop a little more ya know?

I like the vocal effects... but I think maybe they need to come up in the mix...because they're just too damn quiet....
I like the atmosphere but the track tends to get a tiny mono tone after a while you gotta mix it a bit ...fx etc...
like I say some nice ideas... maybe it just suffered from lack of post production a tad...

as an intro it works really well...
but I would say for me ditch the seagulls brother and add a deeper atmosphere in there some tape feedback or reverbed out sfx...
something to really add to the dark atmosphere you got going on as the track drops...
post production wise you need to add something extra to that bassline just to add a little thickness...
but maybe thats just me being picky... I like a bassline to really slap me in the face...
anyway some really good ideas brother...
