I enjoyed listening to this track, and i really dont like alot of ameature dubstep. but seriously when the drop kicked in i was impressed. the bass and melodies are pretty dope and quality is out standing.
i would recomend some drum switches and breaks that complement the compexity of the melodies and driving bass lines.
some sound fx could make it stand out more, and some better compression on the drums to make it reall pop.
idk about you but im infatuated with booming bass kicks, and its really easy to get them without touching the eq.
.
but thats just my 2 cents, it was a great track.
Really like the vibe of this track, has alot of emotional energy
Feels a little rough on the edges though, its kind of like right when I start to get into it it changes jurassticly
The strings are really beautiful and the piano is well crafted great job on that!
As far as the beat though, I feel its a little too hard and subtracts more than it adds, I think pushing the treble back and pulling a little more of the bass would make it feel more.. natural? .. maybe.
But for rap/hip hop you definitely want that kick to be felt in your soul.
Also If it were me I wouldn't cut them out when the piano plays, cus they really add alot of value to this track, but using them in the background with longer note values would still let the piano maintain the spotlight without dropping that deep value you presented
.
I hope my review is helpful and I'm grateful that you presented this for the community to listen to
The quality of the track is great and I can tell alot of work went into it
But there's no such thing as enough
And I hope you will continue to work on this piece, cus as is
Its still a diamond in the rough, at least to me it feels this way
great track! possibly one of my most favorite tracks ive heard thus far. i like that you recorded alot of it, i mean for the most part the instruments a very well recorded, i cant hear any excess feedback or static
i would recommend a little work on the EQ but as is is pretty damn good. your voice is really nice as well, though i think if you downloaded a vst such as Excite or xcita(both are free and should be fairly easy to find using a search engine) it would definitely improve the recording quality of the vox.
i really like the guitars, but could use a limiter on them, because some parts are louder than others and its a little distracting from the song
the bass could use some EQ in my opinion
and i bet if the drums were compressed more, maybe not so much louder but more for clarity-wise
again though i really enjoyed listening to the track, has a lot of emotion put into it instrumentally and vocally, though i couldnt understand much of the lyrics because the vox were kinda so far in the background between the guitars i still liked the quality of your voice
i hope to later hear the finished product! great job and good luck!
-fayz
first off, love your tracks, they are always so inventive. like you always seem to take weird things that normally wouldnt belong or some kind of sound that really isnt musical and turn it into something unique.
in this case i would definitely use the word inventive. i mean its a very simple track that for the most part loops around but its not like beating a dead horse, ya know what im saying? like it doesnt get boring. it has a dark sense to it but with a piece of something brighter. which kinda makes me think the track name really goes with it.
.
cigarettes are expensive and unhealthy (dark) but coming from a smoker i can say that there's a sense of love for the habbit(brighter side) its a weird analysis i know right? XD
but in my own way it makes sense
.
anways, i like the bass, its deep, has some sub bass to it but its also got a dirty overtone that creates a really cool effect. the different sound effects really add character to it in away i could only expect from you.
.
im glad your back on looperman and i hope your here to stay because hearing your tracks is something inspirational and thats the truth!
.
much love bro and i hope to hear more
Thanks so much for your thorough review! Sorry for taking a while to respond! I'm glad you could catch the dark and light side of this track, as that was definitely the intention. I'm happy that the track didn't bore you. Thanks so much for listening and commenting!
its a pretty cool track, i like the static in the background, gives it that old school feeling, the melody on the guitar is pretty chill and kinda reminds me of blues a little bit. i feel the drums need a little more attention in the mix, their kind of the major moving part in this track but they stand so far in the background.
and even though it has a really nice guitar line, it would be really nice if it changed from time to time, i kinda feel like after first 30 seconds of the music starting that i had heard this song before, and it became very un-entertaining.
over all i do believe this track has some great qualities but could use a bit more work
yah know, its not a bad track, personally i dont like much hip hop/rap but honestly i think if you ran into the right people, this track could become popular. you do have a little something that most people on looperman don't have especially in the hip hop section. i cant say exactly what it is, but i know that you got it
.
i mean seriously, you have the makings to be a star, your not quite there yet but i cant imagine not hearing a studio version of this song on the radio. my heart goes out for you man, and if music really is your passion i pray all the doors of opportunity open up for you
.
Much respect man
AWESOME, words cant describe so let me paint a picture, this track took my boring night, through it in the dub-ster and gave me a reason for being on looperman at all
omfg! i cant tell you how stoked i was after listening to this track, its just so filthy!!! and i fell in love with the strings! i love the combination you presented in this track. i feel the ending was a bit careless but the rest of the track was totally amazing
.
i do hope you run through it a few more times and work on the mix a bit more. aside from that, the only thing i feel this track is lacking, is some much needed suspense. i want to feel my mind overload with anticipation because this is truly a great track, dont just hand it over to the listener, make them want what's coming next. give a small hint or add in a few rises that go from nothing to a massacre in .5 seconds.
.
make the listener feel like your not giving your all, make them feel right at home, and then set everything they already thought they knew about this track on fire.
.
i feel like you handed out the goods too soon, like peaking at the presents before Christmas, once you know what it is, it's not so cool on the day of opening.
.
remember, keep warping the listener's opinion of the track, in dubstep, if it's not crazy off the wall, its predictable, and its just like watching a movie where you already know the ending, not so excited to keep watching it.
.
however i have listened to this track three times as of now
and i am in love with it, i hope you keep working on this track!
it was a pretty nice track, im more used to harder dubstep so i kinda expected more but it wasn't bad.
i kinda felt like it was a little too contemporary and more dance than dubstep.
now i know more than anyone dubstep is the hardest music to make, i've been trying for about six months now and i probably just dont have the knack for writing my own dubstep samples or tracks.
so i have a lot of respect for anyone that writes dubstep music, and though this song wasnt really my favorite, i still think its worth listening to, though i also feel it could use a little more attention, comb through it and try making a few changes here or there, i cant say because i suppose it would be more of a preference kind of thing, but i think if you went back and really worked this track over it could be a really great track.
ha i loved it, it feels happy but with a dark sense
i wont write a novel like i did on your other tracks, it can be a bit to read sometimes.
really enjoyed this track though it just screams amazing
the beat is sexy, and the bass... well im a bass kinda guy and i think this track gave me the fix for the night
if you never make an album it would be a shame!
but ima head to bed now,
much respect
and keep doing what your doing, cus its working
wow i cant help but be amazed at your work, i love the jungle kind of beat, it drew me in instantly, this track kind of sounds like an interlude on an album, but i can definitely hear the vocals, driven and strong, with some ambient feel.
the flute? synth? idk which, stroke of genius, i love how your tracks just move along, they dont get boring and they make me want to listen over and over.
i wish the track would be longer, its really beautiful.
.
i dont generally like to push myself inside comments to people's tracks, i find it to be rude, but i do sing high tenor, i realize it's not female vocals, but im sure i could work some kind of magic if you ever wanted to finish this track.
.
but the more i listen to your tracks, the more im thinking
"i gotta collaborate a song with you" your music is so beautiful it drives alot of emotion out in me, and thats all i look for when i listen to any kind of music, if it doesnt make me feel anything its not really music, and your tracks are just so defined within themselves, i dont think you should ever just stick to one genre, you got all basis covered!
.
much love and respect
I have'nt listened to this one for almost a year. Now i did, and it still makes me remember those feelings. The only thing i can tell is that this track was the last one that I could make because of the pressure of feelings. I Really want to get that ability back. maybe I will once.
wow, i read your description, and while listening to the track i swear i could have cried.
this track is amazing it holds so much value within it. i can feel your pain bro, but i like how you turned it into something so beautiful. the guitar melody is just so beautiful i love it to pieces, it breaks my heart and sews it back together while just blowing my mind.
i like how the track has kind of a "stand still" moment but keeps moving on.
.
its like watching a sad memory on replay, over and over, and the more it hurts the more you grow fond of it. this track is just a great piece all together, i've never heard a dubstep song at a slow pace before but it's amazing, it gave me chills to the bone and i cant stop listening to it.
.
outstanding job, truly a piece of art. i know the last track i reviewed was in the making, but if you could do something with it like you did with this... it would be another great track to marvel over.
.
great job, like i said, loved it to pieces
The think you just wrote is completely how i endure pain. I try to turn it into something else. Tracks, poems, my book, whatever. Based on your comment, that time it was successful to put all of it into this one.
Thank you for reviewing, I'ma follow your steps here on Looperman.com :)
reminds me alot of Hollywood Undead, not normally my type of music, but i dig it! lots of work went into this and i can tell. i like the beat, its pretty grooving and the vox aren't too bad either. i can guess and say they have been altered a bit but its not totally obnoxious like most songs. the track sounds pretty good as is, of course i feel like there is something missing from it, but i cant be entirely sure. i think it might be the melody in the music, it has alot of rhythms but i couldn't hear a defined melody aside from the vox. maybe its something to think about.
.
also try to be really creative, do something weird with it, make it stand out, for example in linkin park's "given up" they used car keys as a percussion instrument in the intro.
.
im not saying that you should do something just like it, but try to find simple ways that make your track stand out from on the rest.
-- much respect, fayz
Thanks for the review! Finally someone who doesn't just leave a "Congrats man, really nice work!", but tells me, what's missing, and how to fix it! I really appreciate it! I know there is still a lot to learn, and -for a long time now- you're the first to actually teach me something. TBH this was my first attempt in this genre. As far as I can tell, you listen mostly to metal, but are open for other genres too. Check out my other tracks, if you want and have time.
Please contact me via e-mail. You seem to be rather talkative, unlike most of the artists here.
it was nice, you got alot of talent, i listened to the whole thing and i liked the whole thing, your voice has a nice tone to it and your pitch is solid, i really like the different ways you can manipulate your voice, kinda feels like more of a rock star voice. lots of quality and talent, but i feel like you held back alot and kinda played it safe, next time you do a song, i encourage you to go completely crazy on it! :)
not kinda crazy or even a few bold leaps, but completely let loose on it!
keep doing what your doing! your on a fast track to success
kinda a cute track. i liked it but i feel there should be a bit more variation to it. and the production quality of it isn't bad but the repetition of it seems more redundant. but i did very much like the strings and how you fused it with it glitch and really made it your own. if it were me i would definitely add onto what you got going on to this track, it kinda begs for more but whether you do or dont, its your track and as is its not bad and feels like it would be like the intro song to a game or something
"i need to feel....... BASS!" loved that part, pretty cool track considering how simple it is. not that simplicity is bad, but its rather difficult to compose something as amazing as this without a whole lot of variety. i feel the way you arranged the track was well done, loved the bass, loved the samples, and i loved the beat. what i loved the most though, was how clearly every aspect of the track came through great job
hey, i got your response to my last comment, which reminded me how much i loved the last track i listened to, so i thought i would come back around and see how its coming. Again, loved this track, especially the vocal effects. i noticed that you tend to have a "traveler's groove" seems like every track takes me on a journey I've never been on before but seems so real in my head. this track really made me feel like there was a lot of pain behind it. but at the same time its like being reborn anew! its a really great track, production is great and it has that emotional value that many tracks, even big time produced tracks, really lack. great job on the whole works! can tell there was definitely some heart put into this.
im diggin it, pretty awesome track, i like the way it starts, all the effects and i like how the drums kind move with the flow, the instruments used were pretty cool too, dig the whole track great job
i just checked it out in the email you sent me, just wanna make sure you know, i fell in love with it. i love how dirty and nasty it is. and i feel you incorporated the vox in an amazing way. its just all around an amazing track, from beginning to end, if you do more with it please do let me know! and if you need more samples or anything send me an email or something
cool track, i liked how smoothly it moves along, really feels like im traveling to somewhere distant on a camel's back or something. would make for a great sound track, wish i could give out some constructive criticism but it sounds pretty damn good through my cheap laptop speakers, so i think you accomplished something very few people could do "make music sound good on my laptop". i enjoyed the contrasting feel of ethnic sounds and an uplifting drum beat. sounds a little like the drums are borderline hip hop but they go great with the rest of the track, anyways in short, Great Job
Fayz
Wow, fayz, thanks a ton bro!! :) I really appreciate everything you wrote!
i love it when someone says my music takes them on a journey. It means I am successful! :)
yeah the drums are totally hip hop. I thought about doing a hip hop remix! :)
awesome track, i've been craving something like this ass all day i just wanted something filthy as all hell with a great beat, the vocals were really just a bonus for me, i think that this track is pretty grade A material as far as dub goes, and i really feel the connection between vocals and the track like they were made for each other so props
wow amazing track, even as raw as it is, its still so beautiful, one of the best vocals i've heard on this site in a while. infact i loved the song soooo much, i've downloaded it and will be putting it on my ipod, its just an amazing track great job
bad ass track, i loved the way it started out, the arrangement of the track is pretty sweet, i think i died at the bass solo, all in all a pretty metal track
amazing i am speechless! i loved the entire thing and the way you set it all up gave me the chills, im just too awestruck to say anything beyond that, amazing track!
not a bad track, i started out kinda the same way, what i've learned through trial and error though, is that, if your going to have a simple repetitive melody, its best to have it as a bass, the higher notes usually are better pulled off with more movenent, i wouldn't repeat a melody for more than eight bars, unless you changed the key it was in about every four bars. but other wise not a bad start, id turn the volume down a bit, i set my volume to about 50% and some parts were still pretty loud, but thats just one of those things that you'll get with experience, (messing with the eq and compressors/limiters)
ps.
i replied to your email, im up for what ever, and we can discuss this further through email, look forward to working with you
