Thanks for the feedback. I was almost thinking of adding more layers but I didn't want it to be to clustered and at the time didn't feel like trying to mix in more instruments haha
Nice track you got here! Right from the intro I could tell it was gonna be a track that I'd like (I'm a chord pluck fanboy haha)
You've got a whole heap of different synths going on throughout and the vast majority of them fit really well. At no point did I feel like the different sounds were competing for my attention and getting that many synth melodies talking to each other without mishap is no mean feat!! Definitely a sign of a good producer...
What I think would take this track up a notch? A better mix.
When you boss the writing to a level like you clearly are - nothing less than "awesome" will do on the final mixdown/master :)
I'm not a big listener of this sort of music, so I probably don't have much insight to offer.. however, I do feel the chorus could be beefed up a bit more with maybe a string section (I can even hear the melody in my head) I think it'd go really well!
I haven't read any of the other comments so you may have covered this already - but are you planning on laying vocals over this as well?
I actually agree with you on the strings, and they will come - but not until I add the vocals :) Glad you stopped by for a listen and appreciate the input!
Thanks for the comment. I still have a lot to learn but am very motivated to improve. The bass is not very loud in this track. Could have been better...
Ha.. looks like you've got a much better handle on the bass side of DnB than what I do that's for sure! lol
There's definitely enough variation in this to keep it interesting throughout and I like the creativity on display.. you have a natural ability.
My only criticism: the mix is pretty muddy and you can see from the waveform that you're pushing things too high volume wise (which actually has the opposite effect n squashes sounds) .. but otherwise this is pretty impressive :)
You're reply to the first comment is right.. bass comes first. And I guess that because you chose to ignore that unspoken rule is what makes this mix stand out - good job :)
I don't get what the big deal is about it sounding close to the original or not.. in my mind if someone gives you some stems to mix and master your job as the mix/mastering engineer is to get those stems sounding as good as possible and preserve the intentions the composer had in the first place.. that being said you hit the nail on the head man :)
Of the mixes I've listened to so far I think this is definitely in the top 3. My only criticism would be that the kick drum gets a bit lost beneath that heavy bass line.. but otherwise everything else is near on perfect to my ears - especially love the width and clarity you achieved on the strings at the end. Great job!
Hey WKS, thanks much for the comment! Sorry about the late reply as well. I'm happy that you enjoyed listening. I guess as far as the kick goes, the drums/percussion were all in one stem, so I was very limited in adjusting the volume of individual drums. Also, it didn't seem like a type of song that needed a big heavy kick. I think the balance is slightly better in the new version with MWRatridge's vocal and guitar work. Thanks again for the kind reveiw!
Out of the 4 I've heard (including mine) - this is the best one so far :) .. really impressed with how much boom you have in the kick. I wasn't brave enough with the EQ I don't think lol..
I really like how wide this sounds.. really panoramic. Great job :)
Really good idea with shifting the piano up.. definitely adds more sparkle and gives you more breathing space.. wish I thought of that now lol. I also like how you managed to vamp up the kick drum and get it to stand out.
The only thing for me really would be that the woodwind at the end was a little over-powering, but not by a great deal. Good job man!
Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed it. I hear you on the woodwind thing but it really caught my attention as a stand out part a bit like the melody from the original War of The Worlds theme tune (showing my age now).
Normally when I hear loops put together from purely loops found on looperman they sound like an assault on the ears... Not so in this case. Very easy listening.. Bravo!
thanks a lot for this friendly posting. I am happy, if i done something that you never heard befor. Cause that means it´s in a way special and i love to be special :)
Love the instrumental. Vocals are nice and laid back.. they could do with a little more in the way of EQ and effects, but other than that good job man!
WKS
PS - if you like, I'll help with mixing in the vocals a bit better. Just get in contact if interested :)
Loving the sound of these and the mix sounds pretty much spot on. Still trying to figure out why you've uploaded this as a 10 minute track when all of those different parts could stand as tracks on their own??
Yeah i was out of action for ages so i'm just trying to get back into the swing of things. I've been doing these minimixes because i don't want to give away full tracks anymore (too many indian robots downloading my stuff) Besides, it's just fun anyway.
Glad you could drop by for a listen.

Personally I'd add more layers.. maybe some strings that go off on a tangent to the main theme,.. kinda like a lead I guess.
Anyways, good job

The track could use a little more variation in the way of chord progressions to make things more interesting, maybe some low end bass as well..
I think you're on the right track in developing as an artist, most of the elements are there and the rest will come with time and practice :)
Good job man
