Excellent use of the vocal samples here and I like the steady drum groove with the heavy kicks. Nicely done.

on Feeling robbed part2 by DjBA5
This is really good man. Love the strings [is that a banjo?]. The drums are tight and I love the vocal snippets. Chillout seems about the right genre unless you wanna go with the non-specific "electronic" tag. Really liked this one and I'd be up for remixing it, but I use Fl Studio 9 so I'm not sure if that'll be a problem.

Love the booming bass and the vibe of this track in general - it's gotta a surreal, mysterious feel to it. Nicely done.

on Time - Gil Scott Heron Tribute by bobbybooth
I really, really like this track. Excellent use of the vocals and the pads/synths are smooth. A great combination of funk and the more abtract side of hip-hop [sort of reminded me of Hudson Mohawke]. My one tiny complaint would be that I wish the drums were a little louder. I imagine it was probably a hassle mastering this with the different sounds and vocals, but the drums seem to be drowned out at certain points. Other than that, this is just perfect.

on IF NOTHINGS GOING TO HAPPEN by XLanDer
Heady, trippy music. Love the outer space feel of the track. I'm amazed this was made 10 years ago and the process sounds like it must've been quite a task. I'm sure it was worth it at the end though, because this sounds excellent. Really liked this track as a whole, and I have to specifically mention that I love the outro ie the last two minutes or so of pure atmosphere and fx.

on Ioka - Ambient by Ioka
This is beautiful. I'm surprised this hasn't gotten any reviews yet. I guess with a song like this, the listener is put in such a calm state that writing or thinking of what to write isn't exactly what one wants to do. The percussion throughout is nice and the pads are lovely. I like the little switch around the 4:00 mark where it gets dark, but what I like more is that you quickly bring the listener back to the original calm state. Keep up the good work man.

on Green Violet - Ioka Flow by Ioka
Excellent stuff. Love everything about this track [drums - excellent, bass - solid], but what really stands out for me is that mutating synth line or whatever it is that you slowly bring in from 36 secs onwards. Also, the fx throughout is perfect. Really well done track.

on sound of the snare feat ShawnLat by arkeyetexture
Okay, I mentioned earlier how you haven't lost your touch, but I've now come to the realization that you've also improved. Once again, deep and nasty bassline, without being over the top. The snares/claps from the beginning are great and hit hard. I especially the part after around 2:42 where the bass switches up and becomes a bit more trip-hop'ish. I think that's the part that goes best with the vocals. Also, the liquidy fx is perfect.

hey thanks! this is really only the second time i built a track around vocals. i was pretty happy with it myself. theres deffinatly always room to improve. thanks for the kind encouragement! it really means alot that you like what i do!

on Dont Stop by Becca
Really love this beat. The shimmery sounds and the rhodes combine perfectly, and the overall result is a smooth, lush tune. As for criticism, to be completely honest, I'm not a fan of the vocals here. For some reason it just doesn't sound right to me. Maybe it has something to do with the way you've eq'd it or maybe put some effects on his voice, or maybe I'd just prefer a female voice to go with this beat. It's probably both, and entirely subjective of course. But yeah, other than that, I'm definitely a fan of this tune.

Thank you. I used lots of effects at the beginning ... rain, chimes, thunder, all that sexy stuff. I built this beat around his pellas that he sent me. I am just not good at editing vocals yet . Im trying to learn , all i do is watch tutorials and then practice. Any advice is always good. I use FL Studio 9 producers edition.

on Yenidze - Ioka Flow by Ioka
Love the spacious feel of this one. The fx sounds throughout are pretty trippy and the bass is perfect as well. I only wish you'd let the bass run another bar or two before the song reaches its end because I wanted more of it (I'm a greedy guy). Either you could let it continue as it is, or maybe switch it up by just eq'ing it and making it more of a sub sound, or even change the pattern a bit. But that's just me. All in all, I really liked this.

on Black Mamba - Ioka Flow by Ioka
This is a fun, energetic tune. I like the way the orchestral instruments drive major parts of the song, and then that bass around the 3 minute mark is just absolutely mental. Keep up the good work man.

on Dance of the Grimlin by sumerlin
This is wonderfully demented. Personally, I'd change just a tiny little thing and lower the volume of the synth that goes "bip bip bip bip" at certain points(don't know how else to describe it. it particularly pops out 55 secs in). It's a subjective thing, but I feel that synth sort of takes away from the humourously evil tone of the track when it's the focal point and pushes it more towards the humour side. Anyway, this was an enjoyable 270 seconds (heard it thrice). Nice work.

on B Liv3Wir3 and Lost Soul Make Shift by Liv3wir3
Well that was short and sweet. I'm going to assume you haven't uploaded the full version here for some reason. Anyway, I liked what I heard. Pretty ominous stuff. Never been a fan of the midrange bass mutations except when done well, and you've done it really well here. And, well, I look forward to hearing a full version. Nice job.

Agreed with both the reviewers below - Great, great beat and your flow compliments it perfectly. I see you mentioned that you uploaded the wrong version and corrected that, but I still think you may need to up the volume on the vocals just a little bit more. Nice work nonetheless.

on body and mind by doomgotbeats
Short and sweet. I like it. The beats have sort of an old school feel to them, and the cut up vocals fit in perfectly. Did you intentionally end the song that abruptly? For a second, I thought something went wrong with my computer.

on Pret(ty)(int)en(se)tious by flyindevil
I'm gonna go with "Pretty Instense" and not "pretentious" (it took me a few seconds to figure that out. I initially thought you just like unnecesarry brackets)(like I do)(I'm kidding). Okay now onto the song - this is indeed intense but in a brooding, atmospheric way as most drone/ambient tunes are. I love the big guitar(?) sounds and I'm guessing you must;ve you've a lot of reverb on everything because I can't really figure out what those sounds are. But what I do know is that I like this track. Good job.

on Up Time Dub Time by DaveyJonesMusic
This one's an interesting track. The strumming guitar, vocal samples and bass gives it a reggae feel, while the atmospherics and the chord progressions are more on the trip-hop/electronica side, as you've mentioned. It surprisingly fits together really well. I don't think if I'd ever heard a dark(ish) reggae song ever before until this track, and I really liked this. My only advice would be to extend the intro by just another couple of bars before the guitar strums enter in order the let the track breathe a bit before being unleashed.

Thanks for listening and your comments, Nystagmus. Glad you enjoyed the trippy nature of this track as it is a change of direction for me. I've always enjoyed listening to dub and dubstep and thought it high time to produce a track. Thanks for your thoughts about the intro too. Cheers,

on The Wu by Heisenberg
Nice. Love the spooky keys, and the deep bass. Except for Dungbeatl's excellent advice on taking away the piano for a bit, or chopping it, and then bringing it back, I can't really think of any other way to improve this. So yeah - nice work.

on watermark instrumental -Looking for Collaboration by bobbybooth
Really like this one. The guitar samples are perfect, and I love the undercurrent of static throughout. This sounds like some good trip-hop. My only advice would be to work on mastering the drums to give em a bit more bite. Especially around the 3:00 mark or so they really seem to get drowned out. Just a little though, because I don't think you were going for heavy beats here anyway. The track is more about the atmosphere to me. Also, I like the switch to the bassline towards the latter part as well. Good stuff as usual man.

*Edit - Oh sh*t, my bad. I had the volume on my speakers way too low. The drums sound fine now.
bobbybooth
bobbybooth replied Unknown
Thanks alot man. This one was tricky to master nicely, i still think the bassline needs sorting out. Since i mastered it, some of the sections kinda got swamped. you are right tho, this one is pure atmosphere.

on Jazz Ting by bobbybooth
This is from the Dj Shadow (circa "Endtroducing") school alright. Too bad the guy's sort of disappeared lately, but I think I read somewhere he's coming out with a new album. Anyway, on to your track - I like the jazzy sax, and I especially love the pad you've layered below it. Really adds some soul to the track. The "machine gun drums" (perfectly put by the reviewer below) are great as well, and even though they seem a little crazy for what is a laidback tune, it fits perfectly. I think it helped that I've listened to some of Shadow's earlier stuff, because otherwise I wouldn't know what to make of this, if you know what I mean. Like is this breakbeat? or is it old school hiphop? etc etc. Sometimes there's this need to categorize music so that you can then get a better idea of what the artist is trying. Anyway, I digress. Good music is good music. And this is good. Simple as that.

You are spot on nystagmus. I didnt knowwhat to class this as, jazz?HipHop?Breakbeat? I went with breakbeat so as not to offend anyone with delicate tastes! It was basically a badass drum workout , wanted to go crazy.thanks for the love

on Tellin Me by ChrissG
Man, that bassline is sick. Clean, bouncy and effective. The production is crisp and clear. Also, while this has all the elements of a garage track, I like that it sounds darker (to me)than most I've heard. Btw, where did you disappear to man? I came on to Looperman one day, and you were just gone...without even a goodbye. Frankly, it hurt my feelings.

Okay I'm only f*cking with you. Glad to have you back, and in style.

on hit em by djdaddio
Instantly liked it once the beat dropped and the soothing keys played. Love the chopped up samples. The only suggestion I could give you is to maybe drop the volume ever so slightly on the female vocal that's not chopped up, or maybe put some reverb on it. Other than that, love the beat and the vibe.

on Chopping Down The Disco Tree by RikStarism
Nice. The bassline is a good one, but I particularly love the bright synths. The transition towards the end is a bit abrupt, so I'd suggest making this a bit longer and maybe adding a couple of little sounds around the main melody and bassline. Other than that, this is good stuff.

on What Dem Haters Talkin Bout by HustlerbyNature
I'm surprised this tune's got 89 plays and just two reviews because this is some good sh*t. As you said, real laid back vibe, and I like that. Love the synth you've used. Usually hear those in dubstep/garage tunes, but it fits perfectly here. This is just smooth stuff.
