All I can say is keep at it. Work on it. I'll be completely honest that this is not the best DnB track I have ever heard. But it reminds me of when I first started producing 10 years ago. Just keep working on getting better.
Im making music since 2010 i think!2 years ago or something started making my own sounds bass/pads/leads/plucks and sometimes fx!Thanks for the comment :)
As do I, as do I, my friend. A great amount of my favorite music seems pretty hard to listen to (especially for other people)... The The (Matt Johnson), Shriekback, Bob Dylan, The Cure, Ohgr - stuff like that... It's stuff which a lot of people find noisy, annoying, or depressing. Those are part of what I like about it. Just trying to do my thing. Thanks for listening and leaving a comment!
Yeah, I guess this does have a data bending vibe about it! Did not use any specific data bent samples (like running data files through audio editors directly), but I can hear what you mean. Yep, Labelwhore, who has briefly entered into the community recently posted a bunch of sample sets on the image line forum not too long ago. Among them was a set of samples from his MIDI controlled NES. It's nice of him to share them. Seems like they are still located here:
Yeah, most likely too compressed. I'm still in the habit of trying to master for loudness, although not quite as badly as I used to. Still cramming it through a compressor before brick-walling it; I'd imagine I could ease up on the compression and use a normal limiter instead if I work on it a bit.
Nice, loving the bass and synth sequences. I'd love to do a mix of this. Cold? It almost seems warm to me... it's the bass and and the synth sequences like it's almost happy... sounds like a major scale or something... but of course the vocals and the somewhat odd timing of the drums really makes it... wrong... in a good way.
Hey RogueAi, I'm so sorry that it took this long to respond! Have been deep into renovations and spring planting/harvest. I think the warmth is definitely there in the recordings and mix, so I understand what you mean. It's interesting you picked out major scale, as this is actually composed in an arabic mode. It shows through more in the synth duets in the middle. The drum timing was intended to give a "walking with purpose" feel, combined with a stumbling clumsiness... which, I must admit, is a common combination when getting around. If you are still interested in doing a mix, I can try to work in time to make some stems. Shouldn't be a problem. Just contact me by commenting or sending a pm. Thank you much for listening and leaving your words!
I recorded the audio and juggled with samples. I used the factory presets here basically. Performing music like this entirely in a real time would be quite difficult with my current equipment as I am still in process of building my 'instrumentarium'. Blofeld's multimode is a great performance tool but I didn't use it so far considering a very little time I spent with the synth in overall. Sure I will be making original patches and experimenting further. Your very classic approach to electronic music is inspiring to me.
I don't think so, I split the frequencies of my basses and add a hell of a lot effects to them and automate them together, I don't think I used a flanger, mostly eqs, distortions, stereo panning, compression ect.. It's a weird process, I couldn't begin to explain it fully.
Interesting track! Of course your tracks always sound a bit disturbing and just off, in a good way. However I do feel some of the vocal verses could be bit tighter and I feel the mix needs a bit more low end.
Thank you for taking a listen and leaving a comment. "Disturbing and just off, in a good way" is something I can get behind for sure! It seems that the songs of this album disturb exactly the right people, while the people who are already on the right track find it happy and refreshing. As far as the vocal verses go, I can give two excuses... 1) The vocal parts of this song were literally last minute, as I was facing the chance of jail time the following monday. 2) The song is not meant to be a radio friendly pop song, but more of a modern folk song. (I would place a big guess that you are not into Niel Young or Bob Dylan etc...) In regards to the low end, some of the bass parts are purposely mid frequency, and lifting into higher frequencies at times. It sounds considerably thumpin on all of the systems I've listened on... (five different headphones on different players, alesis monitors, computer speakers with sub, and my hi-fi with JBL three way speakers) I appreciate your advice of course, but since the song and album are only memories now, no changes will be made. Appreciate the comments!
Nice work! Great vocals! I do feel the drums could use more punch and maybe just a bit more variation... I know it's trance, so it get a bit of a pass though.

MIDINES? You men the NES cart that lets you play the NES sound chip over midi? I always wanted one but it's like $200 or something.

Anyway, nice melody and progression but the mix is lacking... mostly just the mids... sounds like and EQ but just done wrong.

Is that heavy feedback flanger I'm hearing (with no LFO modulation)?
