many drops make an ocean
each tear drop is a wound in the heart
I am not much focused, I had to stand many adversities but I still call myself a very lucky man.
Thanks for your words brother: I can only once more say I much I respect you.

Words have much power, they can wound, and they can heal and tears will cushion the blows.

Adversities are there for our building of character and we must go through them, not around them. In this we way we learn, and develop ourselves thick skin that can endure what the world throws our way. Always be strong brother Wolf.
We must always check our attitudes everyday.

Blessings to you - brother Dragon.

on Butterflies Feat Samantha Nova by midiman007
great track!
As already pointed out by MrDjSltUK the guitar work is outstanding here!
Sax is well balanced and don't be "over-critical" on the vocal part: it sits well in the mix and it has its own "character" which is not bad at all!

great music ... but I was expecting nothing less from you guys!
a power ballad in 70s style

PS: hard to pick a highlight here, perfect drums, beautiful vocals, wonderful guitar-solo, such tasteful sax ... simply perfect!

PPS: Franco, what have you used for the organ part?
the sound is so sweet...

on Tang Butterfly World by DanGoldstein
nice work... I see it a a pure rhythmic composition: not focused on harmony but solely on the rhythmic interactions of the little insects that can be found in the butterfly's world.
maybe the connection with the butterfly is not so "obvious": we usually regard them as more "ethereal".
but in general is a very interesting piece of music.
you never cease to create new things... good!
DanGoldstein
DanGoldstein replied 16th Mar 2016 - 8 years ago
i had hoped for a kinder, gentler butterfly effect. but perhaps my frame of mind during the 'Tang' process did not permit it. I ended up with the 'aluminum winged butterfly' or just say the 'iron butterfly'! The track became something harder, edgier than I had imagined.

But I am happy if I conveyed someething of the butterfly's perspective on her world. Thanks for your listen and considered comment mr. wolf.

on Chasm by StaticNomad
Hi MrNomad,
Good title for this track... I had to look in the dictionary for this word: thanks, now I know one english word more :-)

You had me after the first seconds: a firm riff, little hendrix influence, solid rhythm. you can't go wrong from here.

The we have a perfectly fitting "guitar signal interruption" (may I say a chasm?) @ 1:38
Followed by a Good slide guitar solo.
At 3:00 the song gets quieter and we have your "characteristic" chrosued-heavy-effected-bass-like sound.
Interesting... nothing new from you, but interesting.

break at ~3:45 ... haunting distant guitars, good idea.

and from here we go into a "mildly-wild" guitar solo (with some notes borrowed from an eastern scale?)
good
@5:00 almost a reprise of the original riff...
The break with a "complete stop" gives the listener time to breath ... but not to much because we immediately get another "wild guitar part" ... again with the distant guitar sounds.
~7:05 ... double tempo (pat.pending - S.N. Inc.)
...slow down and prepare for the ending...bye!

I enjoyed the song.
Thanks!
Ciao, Domenico

Sorry for the slow reply.

Always happy to teach people new English words. Even when I don't intend to.

"You had me after the first seconds"

Same here - I love listening to that very direct start and simple killer riff. The sparse, swung drum groove really helps bring the riff out.

""guitar signal interruption" (may I say a chasm?) @ 1:38"

Yes, a nice little pause. A double extension of the same thing from around 0:32. I love it.

"a Good slide guitar solo"

One of my best ever. Very melodic. At 1:48 there's another.

2:52 the track drops back down and there is some nice chillout bass g.

"nothing new from you, but interesting."

Lots of new stuff in this track, especially the unusual combination of a lead undistorted guitar part over a low, heavy riff. I also do that at 7:35.

All the timestretched guitar parts are a new technique I really enjoy. Some sound so much like vocals. 3:46 sounds just like a woman.

""mildly-wild" guitar solo (with some notes borrowed from an eastern scale?"

Yes, some is a crossover between dark and Eastern scales. But I only know two scales (major and minor) so I can't really tell you about them.

"@5:00 almost a reprise of the original riff"

Not really. That's where a distorted bass g part arrives on top of the sub bass (which is too loud throughout the track).

""complete stop" gives the listener time to breath"

Yes, it's supposed to be a dramatic shock. Then some haunting guitar voices and then I'm back with a new heavy riff.

"~7:05 ... double tempo"

Not exactly but I know what you mean. It's just a drummer's technique for making things more intense and busy.

"slow down and prepare for the ending"

I love the last minute and it really feels like a warm, beautiful conclusion to an epic journey. The timestretched guitar voices are really beautiful as things are slowing down.

Thanks again for the detail, even if you didn't like this one as much as I do.

sound is very "clean" and well produced.

Hi Joe,
Good to hear this!
I watched the pictures of the observer... the first one is my favorite. And I think it describes well the mood of this track: a bit uneasy, with a touch of "real madness". Good!
Definitely you are not a boring artist.

Hey Domenico,
nice to read something from you.

Good to know that you think that i don't make boring stuff
and also nice to know that you could enjoy, in a way, the observers to this track.

When i was working on this one i had the idea to mix the english and german parts every line but the sound of this two different parts are to different (in my ears) and so i did it in that way you found it here.

And, not you have to thank me that i share this stuff with the comunity, i have to thank you and the rest of the comunity that you take some time and listen to my kind of music.
Comments like yours are the reason why i share my art.

So thanks a lot for your kind words.

stay tuned

Wow! My favorite singer is back!
And what a track!
What you do in the first section is really remarkable: not many people could sing with such a "minimalist" background. You are a real talent!
The second part is a bit more "standard" but very well executed and spot on (maybe a more "fluid" transition at 2:00 could help in "gluing" together the two halves).

I have only complain, but it's a bug one:
I WANT TO HEAR MORE SONGS FROM YOU!

Wonderful job!
This song is "repetitive and hypnotic".
Spiv's voice becomes an instrument, with some "tribal" echoes in it.
Your work on the piano is "gentle" and yet "substantial" to the song.
How not to love it...
Thanks guys!

on Premonator with Spivkurl Promenade Mix by promenade2239
Hi Alex,
This is a beautiful, sad and reflective song.
I like a lot the "creative vocals" from Pat and I have to say that your more "traditional" synth sounds create a wonderful contrast. I mean, the "e-piano" sound you used really gives this song a good vibe.
Liked it ... seriously liked it!

promenade2239 replied 30th Oct 2015 - 9 years ago
Hello Domenico!

Good to see you again.

Thank you so much for your kind comment, I truly appreciate your support.

I must say that I totally transformed the original 'Premonator' to something entirely new but I didn't expect it will turn into something like that as I worked with given material experimenting a lot, I mean: there is an autotune hard processing on vocals and my arrangement is very different from Spivkurl's version (it will be published at some point if the future as well!). I am still learning how to record real synthesizers (I've used Roland JunoDi and Arturia Microbrute exclusively for creating all instrumental parts of this song). I didn't actually use any of 'epiano' sounds but a combination of acoustic piano and string pad. For now I am still by presets but I think I should find more time to create my own patches soon. I will be definitely expanding my synth sound in the future.

I am happy you liked the song. Thank you again.

Best, Alex

on The Wherewithal by Evisma
Hi MrEvan,
Thanks for this new song: I have learned a new English word, even if I am not sure I will ever use it.
As others already mentioned, the piano part is really classy. IMHO the distorted guitar "arpeggio" starting at 2:24 is not the best thing I have heard from you.
The sound is very "digital" and it lacks of groove.
Similar distortion works pretty well on the melody, but this is something different.
Ciao, Domenico

PS: how long should a song be? I found interesting to read that Rush kind of "forced themselves" to stay under 5 minutes, after writing some of the most memorable "rock-suites" of the history.
That said, I think the new version without the "fade-out" will be a better one.
Evisma
Evisma replied 29th Sep 2015 - 9 years ago
Hey! Welcome back.

Glad you liked the piano. Others seem to as well.

I'm having issues with the second half of this one. Adding, taring down, shuffling, crying. It's not going very smooth. I just hope, when I update this, it wont sound forced or contrived.

Always elated to learn new words. I've heard this one forever, but never looked it up to use it properly.

Take care.

on To War by silverman
Dear MrSilverman,
This track is of good quality, no doubt about it.
The "hammering rhythm" of the synth bass delivers well the idea of people marching. The synth arpeggios are keeping the listener "awake" and building the right amount of tension.
The change in the final section, with the (real?) guitar comes in at the right moment.

I am not sure that WarPigs could fit here... but it would be an interesting experiment (unfortunately I cannot help you, I cannot sing at all).

Thanks for sharing your music with us.

Hi Pat,
Listened to this on a sunny Thursday ... and it works very well! ;-)
Outstanding track:
- the bass line is a real highlight!
- drums are simply perfect
- your solo work is brilliant!!!!!
You manage to solo for 8 minutes on a simple sequence of chords and it never gets boring. WOW!
The sound of sax and guitar is very good: in some parts it could be mistaken for the "real thing".
Once more a prove that you are a super musician.

Thanks for the kind words. The drums were actually dubbed from my keyboard. It took a lot mixing to create a real drum sound. I couldn't find a proper slow 6/8 blues drum loop so I just settled for the keyboard drums.

on Objective Focus by Evisma
Dear MrEvisma,
I listened already twice to your nice song: I like it!
It has a strong "medieval" appeal in certain sections...I will not say that it reminds me of Jethro Tull, but actually it does :-)

Good guitar sound (it seems the "guitar version" of your bass sound... liked it).

Not so fond of the bass sound in the first part (~0:24) but it works perfectly in this context (will I ever find the courage to record a distorted bass in one of my songs? I strongly doubt it...)

Tons of good riffs. The interaction between bass/guitar seems very "well studied". (Crimson-ish I dare say). Good .

The song is not too long but very dense.

I don't like the marimba (...and who cares? could you answer)
I like the "synth sound" (with such a cool name...)

Overall: I liked this song a lot.

Lobos-Tesseradecade.

"the "guitar version" of your bass sound"

I do not have any guitar effects or anything like that. I have my Line6 Bass PodXT Live and that's it. That may explain the tones, but yeah, It's still my playing and I pretty much just to layered lead lines.

"I don't like the marimba"

Understood. I like the way they bring a happy vibe to whatever I put them in. I see how people would not agree though.

Thanks for the listen and the kind words.

on Tripwire Valley by Evisma
Hi MrEvan,
Good track...I was a bit disappointed reading the description: no bass guitar? why not? you know how much I like your bass playing!
But, OK, I have listened to it anyway and I am (pleasantly) surprised. The intro is very well thought and played (I read in the comments how you recorded it; well done).
The song flows nicely and I really like the guitar solo: it takes the song somewhere else without being too "different". Good.
I also appreciate your decision of having no bass in the second section: it gives the song more "air".
Only thing which could be improved IMVHO is the drumkit you used: I would expect a more "hi-fi" sound.
What I mean: the guitars have a very "detailed" (crispy I may say). Compared to these sounds the drums are a bit "dull".
Overall a great song.
You are a talented musician (and not only a great bass player).
Take care, Domenico
Evisma
Evisma replied 29th Jul 2015 - 9 years ago
Ocinemod!

"no bass guitar? why not?"

There's some in the beginning, but after that, I focused on guitars and the drums, and when I had it a way I liked it, I was kinda out of room. Clipping a few times without bass is not a good sign. I really don't compress much at all anymore, but I think it's the layered kits wreaking havoc.

I believe the issue with the lack of brightness in the drums is a "Garage" kit that is layered in there, with some reverb and just a darker sound. I'll look into accentuating the highs there.

Also, I've never really worked with swing rhythms before, so I need to learn to be more creative with them. I'll go back and do some drum-dickery.

Thanks for the listen and the feedback on the drums!!!

Take care.

Evan
