Hi MrNomad,
I am probably 9k years to young as well...if we measure ourselves in millenniums probably we are "almost the same age". Nice title...
The intro is amazing: love these drums (hip-hop? I wish hip-hop music had this type of drums...)
First "short solo" is sweet (due to the chorused sound): liked it.
Bass riff ~2:12 is a good one: catchy at the right point.
At 3:30 the bass gets "bassier": the riff is bit "lost" but the line really sets the atmosphere for the next section.
I like the "muted guitar chords" ~4:00 (not sure it is really a guitar...but it sounds similar to this).
The "synth" bass ~4:50 is a nice change: good intro for the resonator solo (according to the law in NomadLand...funny).
Clever use of the delay ~6:20: simple riff but with the repeated notes it gets "spacier".
Killer bass riff ~6:50 (simple but effective).
At 7:50 we get a change in the pace: honestly I was expecting it since I have seen the waveform... exactly what the song needed at this point. Well done.
And now a nice "relaxing section" which sets the scene for the distorted guitar part (which is a bit "too short" in my humble opinion).
Dreamy synth pads...and we come to the end...
Good. Very good (IMO 9.5/10 ... almost a perfect song).
Again a fav for you.

Sorry for the slow reply - I haven't been using the site much this week.
Only Evisma really knows what the title is about. It's a fun one I didn't come up with but borrowed from someone else on the site.
Yes, nice opads in the intro and then we get some lead bass backed by programmed hip hop drums. Hip hop does have drums exactly like that. I'm using the Hip Hop EZX there, which I've used a lot in the last 6 months. Probably not really your sort of drum EZX but I like it.
"Bass riff ~2:12 is a good one"
If you listen closely, you can hear that lots of the bass guitar parts are layered so sometimes two lines playing either the same thing or sometimes quite different things. And there's often synth bass underneath too as my low end from my bass guitar these days is really bad (must get it fixed or buy another one).
"I like the "muted guitar chords" ~4:00"
That's a VST guitar with various effects on it that I use quite a lot in this. I like it.
""synth" bass ~4:50" seems to be popular with other people as well. A powerful sound.
" Clever use of the delay ~6:20"
Yes - I knew I needed some sort of key change or new chord progression. Lots of delay on the guitar part and I like the way it moves higher.
"Killer bass riff ~6:50 (simple but effective)."
That's only there as a way of giving the listener a rest from all the lead work and as I prepare to move into the next section.
"7:50 we get a change in the pace"
Yes - there's a drumless break and then some fast sort of psychedelic jazz (now that I've changed key). Listen to the drums and you can hear they're hip hop ones.
"And now a nice "relaxing section"
Chillout lead bass guitar work to go with the trippy vocal synth part.
I will go back and try to make the "distorted guitar part" (not guitar, just bass) longer. Valvedriver thought the same thing and I kind of agree. That might be the coolest part in the track.
"Dreamy synth pads"
Maybe I will make that section shorter so not return to the same intro.
Thanks for the 9.5. I wonder what I would have to do to get a 10, or if I ever have. If so, I wonder which track you think is a 10.
Hi MrNomad,
I am probably too late to win the "best review" contest, but I suppose I can live with it: free sex is always interesting but here we lack an important piece of information. Free sex with whom?
Anyhow, the title immediately sends me to the 80s, don't know why. The song starts dark and intriguing. Well done (Cure is a name that comes to my mind, but they have never done anything so "structured", just the overall atmosphere reminds a bit of some 90s works of this band).
As soon as your guitars enters the scene we move into a more "band" context. Liked: very good clean sound and interesting riffs you are playing.
Overall the song moves well: the "almost 11 minutes" run fast and it is not boring at all.
One of your best songs? maybe.
Anyhow, this is for sure a fav.
Thanks.
Ciao, Domenico
Wow, thanks for getting back to me so quickly with reviews of two tracks I was sure you would prefer to the Tool cover. I've made a lot of music in the last 6 months and those two tracks are some of the best.
"Free sex with whom?"
I give you sex vouchers and you can choose who you have sex with. You just have to get them to accept my voucher. Don't worry, they will when they see it's a Nomad voucher.
Title of this used to be one I still kind of prefer - We Invade The Night. I changed it because it's slightly awkward to say ("-ade the") but I might change it back.
I don't listen to The Cure but I respect their music.
3:36 you hear the new Reggae EZX kit enter. It's a good drum kit and it's then used throughout the rest of the track.
"One of your best songs?"
Definitely my best cinematic, jazzy track with lots of piano. Sounds very different from many of my other tracks so I'm really pleased about that.
Hi MrJoe,
I wish you good luck: buying with no money is not an easy thing... you must be able to run very quick :-)
Interesting concept for this song: the main riff is really "obsessive" ... it would be interesting to hear it developed further with more drums/synths. Looking forward to hearing this song growing!

Hi MrMosaic,
Good song. Very good work on the flute.
It flows nicely and adds a "70s" touch to the song which I like a lot (don't ask me why, but whenever I think to "funk" my minds automatically goes back to the 70s...)
"Bass-Drum" locking issue: probably yes... the loops don't match perfectly.
One interesting comment (close to what MrUrbanShokker mentioned in point 4): I just returned from a jam-sess with my "drummer of choice" and I was commenting with him on a funky riff which we played for almost 10 minutes.
I told him: "to make a cool funk riff, I think of a riff and then I start removing notes until I let the bare-bones of the riff stand out"
So yes: specially from a bass point of view, funk is "removing the un-necessary" and let the riff shine in its beauty! :-)
Thanks again for sharing the song with us: beside my "un-needed" comments the song is good.
Looking forward to hearing a new version which will be "perfect" :-)
Ciao, Domenico
Mate thank you for a great in-depth review of this one, listening back to it again just now, agree the bass not meshing well (or could be better) with the beat, plus couple of other elements could combine better, will look at this one again in the near future, but not just yet, if going back to it too soon will stuff track up, something I don't want to do, which I seem to do lately :(

Hi MrEvan,
I liked this song. Very good.
Couple of critiques:
- not so fond of the "muted" notes played in the intro, would like them to sound differently (more fx maybe?)
minor thing, they are not very loud in the mix
- the intro (up to 0:55) is lacking some "deep freqs"; the bass in this section is a bit thin (maybe this is exactly what you wanted to get)
...and now some "highlights":
- "wha" riff at ~1:27 it's pure genius. Short but I loved it!
- the "main riff" (e.g. at 0:55) is a killer one! Liked it a looooot!
- layered bass "arpeggio" (e.g. at 1:04) is a typical MrEvan trade mark. I already told you a 1,000 times. I like your way of playing and your sound.
- very pleasant guitar work...and the guitar is always clean yet the result is a rock song!
"- not so fond of the "muted" notes played in the intro, would like them to sound differently (more fx maybe?)
minor thing, they are not very loud in the mix"
Are they a bit clunky sounding? I don't think there is a single effect on them so I can see what you mean. I'll mess with them a bit, and bring them forward more.
"- the intro (up to 0:55) is lacking some "deep freqs"; the bass in this section is a bit thin (maybe this is exactly what you wanted to get)"
I believe that I still have the "scratch" bass track in there. It was meant to be built around, then replaced, but I see now that I forgot and got used to the sound. Thank you for hearing that, I intended to replace it,... and now I will.
"the guitar is always clean yet the result is a rock song"
I can't get any distortion that I like. Everything sounds cheap and tinny or buzzy or like a synth. I need meaty chunkiness, and I get skinny zingy sounds. I'll need some tube preamping, at least that's my plan!
Wonderful track.
This synth-bass is simply too good: with such groovy synth bass lines who is going to need real bass players anymore?
Me Sad :-)
As already pointed out by MrMatt: the solo is really "perfect". Professional guitar sound, this solo is the "icing on the cake" on an already very good song.
It would be interesting to hear somebody adding a vocal part to this.
Kudos to you and My03: you are a "dream team"!
Ciao, Domenico
Hi Joe,
Nice little gem: of course I had immediately to think at Kraftwerk... and that's not because you are German. It really makes me think to the kind of sound experiments they were doing.
And I agree to the comment of MrCentralsDev: I found it more of an "inside" trip than a space odissey. ;-)
Beside the jokes, for me this type of music stimulates more of an "inner trip".
Very good one!

Love & Peace & Pfannkuchen
...or should I say Eierkuchen? :-))
PS: Cis and Dis... would have been a cool title!
By the way, I am playing with some colleagues at work and these German chords are always driving me crazy... the difference between a H and a A is not so evident for a poor italian guy :-)
Often or better say mostly, i realy dont know in what chords i am playing or working. And it could be that this track is Am7 or anything else, cause i dont know it. I just played around on dis and cis and friends of them :)
Nice to know that you enjoyed your -inner trip-
And thanks for your Kraftwerk in older times comparison, thats realy friendly.
Here we say - Love & Peace & Eierkuchen
but Love & Peace & Pfannkuchen is also nice :)

btw, what is a german chord???? I never heard about "national" chords :)
Very good MrEpic.
Liked. Your Farsetto works pretty well.
Just wish it was longer... I've read the comments and I know that school's killing you... but school is more important at the moment! so you are doing right here as well :-)

Hi MrOcean,
Interesting track. Nice guitar solo.
The clean guitar sound is a bit "thin" but I like what you played.
The rhythm section builds a nice background for your gtr.

Hi Danke,
Very good track, as usual from you...I was expecting nothing less when I clicked here :-)
The change at 1:02 is so "80s" I had to love it!
The sax at the end has already received its share of compliments, so just write down "+1"
Ciao, Domenico
...forgot to mention: I was also thinking (hoping?) to hear a cover of Nirvana's song... I have never heard of another "come as you are" and I don't know the original.
And of course after listening to this beautiful rendition I won't look for the original version: it can't beat this one!
Ciao, Domenico
Hi Epic,
This is a beauty. Simple.
It is really refreshing to hear such "simple" track here: few instruments but very well played, beautiful work on the vocals.
I liked everything: bravo!
Ciao, Domenico
Hi MrEB,
Short track, right at the point.
I liked everything: from the nice intro sounds to the soft rhythm introduced by the percussion.
The marimba and harpsichord really make me think of two puppies jumping around and playing together.
And the lead guitar adds a touch of "live feeling" to it.
Very well done!
Ciao, Domenico
Thank you so much for the lovely comment. The whole idea was to portray their cuteness and innocence. Hope i was able to pull of at least 50% of that...
Hi Scott,
Great track.
There is not so much to say about this: very professional, all the elements (guitar, voice, drums) are simply "perfect".
Very well done!
Ciao, Domenico
PS: I did not mention explicitly the bass, it is also very good, a bit "understated" but that's exactly what the track needs. So it is perfect as well :-)
Hi Domenico! Good to have you listen to this song and leave a comment! I agree they are weird sounds in this, it was very much a work out for the modular synth. Trying out the new MIDI to CV converter. Wanted the whole track to have sort of vintage synthesis feel, but with my own signature sound design and MIDI control. I have written a bit of lyrics for this, but not a complete song yet. I will probably be redoing some sounds in this and then trying to add vocals. Thank you for your continued support!
Hi Benjizo,
Very convincing rap flow: I couldn't follow all the lyrics (my english is not good enough... I will need to listen to this several times to get the message) but I enjoyed the song.
Well mixed and produced as well.
So, definitely a good track.
Ciao, Domenico
Dear MrNomad,
It worked. I liked (almost) every single bit of this weird track.
The first minutes are really "cool": a nice bluesy/jazzy riff going on. Nice drums. Bass a bit "understated" but it works fine.
Fine guitar solo between 1:50 and 2:45.
Then things get "weirder": not a big fan of this synth-horn sound. But it works well here.
We have to wait almost 4 minutes to get the metal-guitarist; but it is well known that metallers are lazy people and they are always late at appointments. So just fine.
Big question: is the heavy part maintaining the spirit of the initial part? is it still the same song or you kind of cheated and "abutted" together two different songs to accomplish your metal-jazz task?
Only the gods can answer.
Me, as a humble human being, not chosen by any god, I can see some "common traits" between the different sections. Of course they are "feeble" but still the thing works as a whole. So well done.
Of course, ca va sans dire, my favorite spot is the fine bass work starting at 6:41. I think this is the most convincing part of the bluesy/jazzy thing.
The stop is also working fine.
Nice chords with weird effect coming after the stop.
Some vocal-like effects: haunting.
good work on the keys for the closing part.
Overall, I enjoyed the song, a lot.
I have to listen it some more times, but I believe this is going to become my favorite one.
In the end we have more jazz than metal.
And it's OK so (at least for me).
Jazzy greetings with a sprinkling of metal on top.
Yes, first few minutes, once the groove kicks in are a laidback, cool swinging stuff that I find very inspirational to play instruments to. My favourite thing about all the clean/undistorted guitar in the track is that it's a single 11 minute take that I then chopped up and moved around a great deal to get what I wanted. There was no need to add any other clean guitar parts as everything required was in those 11 mins.
Understated bass is the synth bass that gets much more powerful in the heavier parts. Very little bass guitar in the heavy sections - just one synth bass sound plus a few bass guitar fills at certain points.
I love that synth horn sound and it really said "pure wailing evil" to me so inspired the freaky, heavy vibe.
"is the heavy part maintaining the spirit of the initial part?"
I like to think it is. The track title is a reference to the tritone (or flattened fifth) note that has a very dark and evil sound, especially when played like this. You can hear it in many parts of the track, including the first Rhodes chord. There's an emphasis on it in the heavy sections too.
"Only the gods can answer."
And me.
I certainly didn't come up with the heavy stuff as a separate track and then stuck it inbetween the cool, swinging jazz sections. No: the metal drums are also almost all swung grooves, just like the jazzier, quieter drum kits. And it's the same synth bass sound heavy and quiet and the wailing strings can be heard both heavy and quiet. It's really all one track so I hope it doesn't sound like something heavy and unrelated in the middle. Once I get properly heavy, I do go off into various different riffs that sound quite unconnected to the rolling jazz. But that's just me exploring more and more riffs.
Bass at 6:41. When working on that, I thought of you and that you would like it. It's funkier than everything else so that's probably why it stands out to you.
7:31-8:19 is the return to the big emphasis on the tritone. So, that section is me doing metal in a chilled, jazzy way and with no guitar. I thought of adding it but it didn't seem necessary. Rhodes is nicely distorted there. And there's some groovy bass guitar underneath. See also 3:04 for distorted Rhodes.
Yes, more jazz than metal. That's because I'm better at playing chillout cool groove stuff than metal. And also rapid metal riffs don't take very long. Cool chillout groove playing lasts longer so that's why it has a longer running time in the track.
Thanks for your thoughts and glad you liked most of my jazetal (jazz metal).
Hi MrMatthew,
I like the idea for this song: simple chords progression with two nice synth-lead sounds.
I also like the way you "faded-out" the first synth line.
Good.
I am no big expert of electronic and dance music (I am not an expert of any music genre probably), but I still believe that you should improve the sound of your kick-drum: I like the idea of a "bare song" with not too many elements, but then the few elements that you use must be "perfect" (or as close to perfection as we can).
Liked.
Ciao, Domenico
Ciao Domenico e grazie del commento.
I hope to find some singer to help me out on this, also to develop the track furthermore.
There is a story behind this song and the title, and would be good to use that as structure for the lyrics
A presto
Hi Steve,
Great song!
This song has really a "clash" taste: the synth lines could find place on Sandinista.
Only problem: the solo is too god (2:27): clash never had anything similar.
The bass line really seems to come out of the fingers of Paul Simonon (only exception the change around 3:20)
Nice work on the synths (3:33): guitarish and intriguing.
Also the final organ solo is a nice touch: mixed very low to not distract the listener from the main song.
The end is a bit "quick".
Great song. Really great.
I am looking my contacts to see if I have the phone number of Joe Strummer: he would love to sing on this one :-)
Ciao, Domenico
Ironically I have been watching Punk Britannia on you tube the last few days. The clash were awesome, and if you were able to contact Joe, that would be an amazing feat since he passed on about 13 years ago. His voice may have decayed (oh that’s so wrong) a bit. I really enjoy writing and playing moving bass lines. This bass line is a different style for me. 3.20 is me slipping into a Alan Spenner style bass line for say a Roxy Music like song. Punk and disco were made for each other in a musical sense because of the simplicity of styles and chord structure it creates a lot of breathing room in the tracks to be creative with solos and moving bass-lines. IT's why the New wave, post punk, post romantic, synthpop movements in the uK became so big and then with the advent of the visual in MTV in the US, transplanted to North America as well.
One of my favourite tunes that embodies the spirit of this sound actually is from your home country by one of it's biggest stars ever. This tune from 1972 is before disco and drips with irony. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_X_7iMHugXM&html5=1
I love the simplicity , the ironic anger of the nonsensical usage of English (Anglocentric voices prevelant in many euro-tunes at the time). and the subtle instrumentation throughout.
Always a pleasure
Steve

I believe that I still have the "scratch" bass track in there. It was meant to be built around, then replaced, but I see now that I forgot and got used to the sound. Thank you for hearing that, I intended to replace it,... and now I will.
"the guitar is always clean yet the result is a rock song"
I can't get any distortion that I like. Everything sounds cheap and tinny or buzzy or like a synth. I need meaty chunkiness, and I get skinny zingy sounds. I'll need some tube preamping, at least that's my plan!
Take care.

My03 really out did himself on this one. He is such a talented musician. This is no offence to anyone here.
Talk care and I hope all is well with you and your family.

Here we say - Love & Peace & Eierkuchen
but Love & Peace & Pfannkuchen is also nice :)
stay tuned
joe
btw, what is a german chord???? I never heard about "national" chords :)

Liked. Your Farsetto works pretty well.

Interesting track. Nice guitar solo.
The clean guitar sound is a bit "thin" but I like what you played.
The rhythm section builds a nice background for your gtr.

Very good track, as usual from you...I was expecting nothing less when I clicked here :-)
The change at 1:02 is so "80s" I had to love it!
The sax at the end has already received its share of compliments, so just write down "+1"

Always makes my day or night :-), when I see your avatar...
Appreciate your kind words as always!

This is a beauty. Simple.
It is really refreshing to hear such "simple" track here: few instruments but very well played, beautiful work on the vocals.
I liked everything: bravo!

Thank you so much for the lovely comment. The whole idea was to portray their cuteness and innocence. Hope i was able to pull of at least 50% of that...
Thanks again!

So it is perfect as well :-)
My sincerest apologies for missing a reply to your comment. Not sure what happened, but I'm sorry.
Thanks so much for your kind words. So glad you like it and took time to comment, even if I'm slow with my reply back.

I totally second the request from Wayne: this song needs your vocals!

Very convincing rap flow: I couldn't follow all the lyrics (my english is not good enough... I will need to listen to this several times to get the message) but I enjoyed the song.
Well mixed and produced as well.
So, definitely a good track.

on Emperor Tritone by StaticNomad
Ciao, Domenico

Liked.

One little remark: the song is too short.
I would expect an average woman to need a little longer than 1:44 to go like that.
on Discotechnique by crucethus
