Description : A collaboration with sax man Luke Townsend from Cape Town. Its a track from an album we completed last year called 'The Trip', featuring some beats & samples from local electronic dude Captain Asthma. Has an Eastern Feel with a very warbly bass sound. Was put together using Acid Pro and finished off using CuBase. The bass and horns were live (some looping), the rest is loops. The album was self-released - we did a limited pressing of 200 copies. Available in SA!

Description : Silas Wood from Birmingham UK and I collaborated on this. We met at a jam session in west London when I was living in the UK He programmed the drums, played the melodica and generally produced the piece. I wrote the main riff, played keyboards and bass and recorded local Zulu woman Thandi Ngcobo talking about her life. Has a very loose feel to it - I like what Silas did with the drums, lots of variation.

Description : Starts off with a vintage drum beat from Captain Asthma (a Durban local beathead) and some sax. Gradually develops into a house-like groove with a repeating melodic bassline. Lots of breaks with layered instruments including live sax, melodica. Originally put together in Acid but was finished off in Cubase. We wanted to do a dance track but couldn't stop ourselves from fiddling with the arrangement, and also couldn't do a straighahead thing. Fun to put together.

Description : We finally got a trumpet part we were happy with, so we just needed to add some bass. A simple repeating riff did the trick. Used a few samples here and there and several drum loops. Luke plays a jaws harp and all saxophones.

Description : Another track from a collaboration with sax man Luke Townsend from Cape Town, also featured on last year's album called 'The Trip'. The title is Afrikaans and means 'The Flats' - it describes an area in the Karoo Desert which is endless. The piece started off as a 2 chord bass groove, which drives the main section, over which a bass melody was added. Luke then dropped in various melodic statements and we developed it with some percussion overdubs. Put together using Acid Pro and finished off using CuBase. The horns were mainly live, and the bass grooves are looped with some variation here and there. We used some drum grooves from Captain Asthma together with some drum grooves from Sony Acid that I bought.
