Description : Greetings
We are TribeOfHofund, a pagan inspired electronic duo, and have introduced ourselves in the corresponding section at Looperman.
We combine electro with folk and classical music from the renaissance and pre-renaissance eras. This is tune from the Darkness of Hel. It goes 10/4. Thus, the guitar theme + drums are counted in 10. However, the ocarina theme is in 4/4 and occasionally turns the rhythm into a 10 against 8 (or 5 against 4 if you prefer) polyrhythm. .
Description : This was our first track when we began Tribe of Hofund in early 2021. It is an experiment in free counterpoint: Different melodies are introduced naked first, then in pairs, and finally nearly all of them meet in a massive soundwall. If you want to know about the myth of the Valkyries, go to the lyrics.
Description : Raise, fallen Einherjars. The Valkyries have left us at the foot of Bifrost, the rainbow road to Asgard. Let us enjoy our last travel in life until we face the gates at Bifrost´s end.
This is a travel inspired by renaissance polyphony; modal counterpoint. However, it is "paganized" by pushing it into a 6 against 4 polyrhythm. Can you guess what instrument signifies the sight of the gates? ;-)
Description : This is a Scandinavian flavored tune in 5/4 (we danes have children songs in this meter, so it is quite natural to us). It is partly inspired by a chaos session by the modular synth artist Vurt from KVR Audio, which we use for all effects in the tune. To learn a little about Jotuns, go to the song lyrics.
Description : This is one for the dance floor...erhm..folk dance floor that is. Being a couple of old folk-pause-clowns, I am afraid this is as close to a rave party as we get. You will hear me "go bananas" with a way too busy violin arrangement, while Peter "freaks out" with his Mike Oldfield powered guitar harmonizations. Go to the song lyrics to find out what it is about.
Description : This is a little something in 7/4 and our only tune in major. However, it is really not particularly happy. Thus there are threatening dissonances involved tho it may seem nice on the surface. To figure why it is so, you need to know who Fenrir is. Go to the song lyrics to find out.
Description : This tune takes as unpredictable courses as the destinies of our lives. We begin in 6/8, one key and one mode, but do not expect us to stay there. Will it ever find its way back? We octaved, harmonized and effect-messed Peter´s guitar to go into psychedelic-land with this one. To learn about the norns, go to the song lyrics
Description : A little trip in 5/4. Normally we do not enter one synth challenges due to our style. However, when Reason Studios announced the Algoritm FM synth challenge, we discovered its potentials for physical modeling and took the bait. Peters guitar was not added, we wanted to use Algoritm only to see how far we could take it. We did not win xD Go to the lyrics to find out what it is about.
Description : Of all Aesir tunes we have made, I am proud that we have not made one about Thor yet, that would be too cheesy. However, we did make one about his goats xD. There is a canon between an oboe and a violin in this one. Not to forget the most simple form of imitative counterpoint in the sands of time. Check out the lyric to read about the goats.
