Description : Hi Guys, I asked for feedback on how I should mix Chicago Swing. I received some very good constructive feedback, Thanks. Please listen and and provide more feedback as this is a work in progress. (I encourage you to listen to this one and then listen to the original one on my page) Thanks again everyone for the feedback. Some feedback received were as follows: lower the levels on bass, raise the levels of piano, electric keys, and lead. Also, the track ends abruptly.

oh my, i was enjoying this one and then that buzzy lead came in and made it even better haha..
lot's of going on in the mix, sometimes its hard to get all the levels and EQing right. for me it's quite clean how you have it now. one trick i like to do with my mid range melodies is run them through a visual parametric EQ to see where the all the frequencies are peaking etc and from there play around with the levels to get a more dynamic sound (I'm still experimenting with this, but i can already hear a difference in my melodies).
Also i like to cut out any possible low end (0-180Hz) from the melody so it doesn't conflict with the bass.
Anyway, this track was sweet and super relaxing. need to press replay now haha!!
Hi ronabo,
I like this song a lot - sounds so smooth and chill.
Really nice piano playing. Groovy and relaxing.
Nice syhthesizers, flutes and percussion.
Really pleasant track and easy to listen to:)
Nice work!

Whoa! How did I miss this one? Great feel. This is the kind of music I love. Well, I like a lot of different kinds of music, but this kind of R&B/Jazz thing really hits home with me. I love it, but I must admit I don't know how to get that kind of sound and groove. Very jealous! :)
Glad that listened and enjoyed it. I love neo soul, rnb, jazz and kindof mix them up to get different feels. On this track I delayed the kick drum and snare but kept everything else on a 1 beat. Then I added a little swing to it. Sounds like we like the same sound. I would love to hear your other tracks.
thanks for the comment again. Love this! Smooth as butta my friend! Me being from Philly and a 70's baby :) I can definitely appreciated some Soul.. Any kinda soul.
Glad you put another mix out there for us to enjoy! You got me vibin' for sure! Just inspired me to produce a Neo Soul type track.
There ya go...It's happnin' now! Thanks for keeping the bass at a reasonable level. Whoever started the styles of music where the bass is so damn loud you can't hear anything else, should be shot! I want EVERYTHING to be heard in my mixes.
I'm really digging this..This is really up my alley. I'm big on Neo-Soul. Would really like to collab with you soon! I think we can do some great stuff. I'm gonna fav this one!
I like this one ronabo...has a nice jazzy vibe...the bass is right on and you`ve got some great keyboard skills going on here...that little part where you drop the backing & tinkle the keys around 1;25 is really effective...smoooooth listening...like it the way it is...if I were to try & think of anything to change it would just be something along the lines of maybe adding a tad more variation....maybe throwing in a little bridge part way through to step it into some different/complimentary chprd progs......enjoyed the listen....well done.....Ed
Thanks Tumbleweed.. Glad that you liked it and I appreciate your feedback. This is a work in progress track so i just might add another part to enhance the track. Good idea about the bridge part.
Still smooth and still flowing, an improvment on the last mix. Maybe the lead is a little overpowering from 0.22?? thats my only thought?? Otherwise so smooooth and laid back. The keys from around 1.26 are amazing!!
This isn't my kind of thing (too smooth, too "easy listening") but I think it's pretty well done and there is a lot of melody.
I didn't hear the previous version but there are definitely still a few problems.
I'm not particularly keen on the snare but don't particularly mind it. But it seems too far back in the mix because of the reverb on it. Whereas, you rlittle flute/penny whistle wind instrument that's panned left has no reverb. So it seems disconnected from the reverbed parts and as if it's not playing with them (even though it is, melodically-speaking).
I also think that ride is a bit too loud and prominent and also isn't quite matched with the other reverbed parts eg snare and strings.
Try applying some othe same reverb to the parts without and see if that binds things together a bit better.
Actually, I like it more on second listen. And I don't mind the fade out ending too much, something I find people tend do badly. However, it can be brilliant if done right, though you need to spend longer doing the fade and really make it so you take the listener town to zero, giving the sense that this track is just playing on forever in some club somewhere. That can have the effect of making the listener think about it going on forever so help it stick in their head.
I hope these ideas help and you can make it a bit better as I think people who are into this sort of music will like it.
Thank you StaticNomad for your constructive feedback. The reverbs is something that I struggle with so I will keep your pointers in mind. I appreciate the comment about the fading idea too.
Aw man, what an improvement. Reminds of how much a little tweaking can make of a difference. You did a great job. The snare is also less prominent and blends well in now, everything does actually. I like the play. Maybe add a break, or a modulation, that might bring it to another level. Props!
