Mate, it sounds really good all due to your brilliant guitar work. I'll start thinking of another musical canvas for you!!

Hey Steve...just a note of thanks for the comments on Cloud Dancer...I went over to my music PC...muted the bass track (I used a simple synth bass on the version posted) and plugged in my old JazzBass which I am much more comfortable with...but tend to walk around a lot on....and did some different bass licks...big difference....I`ll leave the one I did posted ...but I`m slapping myself on the forehead for not letting myself do my old bass player things....thanks again...Ed

Hi Ed, thanks for the nice comments on Platform. Yes Behnam has really shined on this one and to be perfectly honest probably didn't give it his best shot which is scary! Behnam just played his part alongside my orignal posting of this song and sent the guitar work via email! No worries with the bass feedback. As I work alone its easy to forget all that I have at my disposal, or alternative approaches, or I find I get bored with a piece and go for a quick finish.
Kind regards
Steve

Not sure what you mean about sending through another project. I'll look out for your tracks on here and leave advice now that I know it's helpful (or PM me if necessary). Some people find my suggestions useful, many don't respond, a couple have even given me outright abuse and insults. Because of the latter, I'm reluctant to say anything at all disapproving (though I do this constantly with my own work) and really only comment on tracks that I think are good or have potential. One guy even called me 'the greatest critic on the Loop', which was odd and a bit worrying though he later said he meant it as a compliment.

If I like something, my feeling is almost always that it can be better. So, I try to analyse which areas need to be worked on, though it can be hard to express how you think someone should go about this. And you don't even know if the element for which you're suggesting improvement is maybe the bit they think is perfect!

Recommend to me some of your tracks featuring Superior Drummer as I still haven't heard any track that I am aware of using the software. It and EZ Drummer are all over most of my last 12 or so uploads on here. I have most of the EZ add-on packs and a few Superior ones. Might get another EZ one this week (Rock) as I find I can never really have too many drums.

I use between 2 and 5 kits on a track and love mixing and matching elements. The EZ Metalheads and Claustrophobic kits are particular favourites and I love the Superior Roots and Sticks kits too. I'd love some orchestral drums (eg kettle drums) but there are none for Superior but there is a pack for BFD. But I don't have BFD!

Good luck with this track as I'm sure there's more to come from it.

There's so much soul in this piece. I'm convinced that guitar is alive.

I commented on the earlier version so won't say it all again (eg excellent guitar). But this is better.

Bass effective starting on 0:24 , gets better on 0:43.

Ambient beds are all good - just my kind of thing.

Little shakers good percussion choice but the one that comes in 1:04 interferes a bit with the guitar. Maybe they're not coming in on the right beat.

Still think more could be done with drums in those first few mins eg gentle cymbal rolls, a delayed fill here and there, maybe a hint of a beat fading in (have some fun with it) though basic sparse choice works fine.

Vocal sample 1:41 effective. Sounds like more vocal should now happen but I quite like that there is no more!

2:57 onwards bass is loud enough and effective. This section is probably all too loud, as can be seen on waveform (technical point) but good mix. Cool psychedelic section but needs to be longer! So, maybe return/drop back down to ambient chill though maybe with more of a beat this time. Maybe chop the guitar up a bit or something eg some reverse bits.

Thanks again. I must admit using VST mastering plugins always has issues with compression and I need to spend more time learning how to manage that. It is apparent my 52 year old ears with a level of tinitus needs your sort of support to perfect mixes!! I have another project on the go that I would like to send through when in final draft if you wouldn't mind?

Cheers

Behnam is an EXCELLENT guitarist. His style eludes me, though. I hear his talent and technique, but I have no idea where he goes with his music, but the man can PLAY HIS ASS OFF! Believe me, this is in no way a 'put down.' I love his playing, but I have no idea what the Fk he's doing! It is great, non-the-less!

Cheers,
Scott

Hi Scott. I know exactly what you mean. Behnam is a type of cat who dances to a different beat! His skill is unquestionable and it would be nice to hear him play in more mainstream style so his talent is more apparent. I reckon he recorded his part on probably one take and on the fly. Unreal.

Description : This is my newest creation, at a stage very near to completion. No third-party mastering or mixing, as with all my tracks. Just have to fix a few tiny things. I FINALLY WAS ABLE TO MIX EVERYTHING IN THE SAME SESSION. This song has all human-played instruments - no quantization or MIDI! My brother does all the vocals except for the interlude part, which I do. My other brother plays the rhythm guitar (a Gibson Les Paul Custom - only one of 12 in the world!!) and I play the accompanying guitar (a Johnny Mar Jag and PRS). He has a lot of guitars :P A good friend of ours, Ronnie, plays the bass and another friend, Freddie, plays the drums. The drum track was done in one take (had to use an electric drum set due to time constraints - but acoustic kits are so much better). Overall, pretty satisfied with the result. Let me know your thoughts.

Description : The first track I sing on. Cheap stage mic & no fancy plugins. Heavily guitar laden to the point it's got a bit of a shoegaze thing going on. I pulled the lyrics out of my ass & yes, they're a bit silly.

Description : BIG UPDATE 26/02/2014 - So, this was an 18 min track that I have now successfully split in two. 2nd half I uploaded a few weeks ago (Things That Should Always Be, with the bouncy 2 min reggae intro). This is the first half, which has a new mix, a mega chill, meditative ending and a little jazz thrown in for good measure. Takes a few minutes for beat to really kick in. Constantly evolving electric guitar, bass guitar, acoustic drums and lead banjo driven by fat, busy 80BPM grooves with a bit of a reggae and shuffle feel. Also: synth choir voices, dulcimer, violin, cello, shimmering pads. Builds up gradually to nice and rocking and then gets taken back down for the big comedown chill. I really don't know what sort of genre this is except 'far out'. I think it sounds more like a live band than one guy playing instruments and manipulating a DAW. Not my best track but a bit of blissful, sunny island fun. Real positive vibe here so I hope you give it a chance to unfold and unfurl. Sit back, clear your schedule and immerse yourself in these trippy sonic experiments cooked up deep in my off-planet underground laboratory. I have to send the MP3 to Earth via space courier (not cheap).

Description : In the 1700's the Comanche Indians became known as the Lords of the Southern Plains. The Comanche ruled a region that stretched across New Mexico, Kansas, Oklahoma, Colorado and deep into the Texas Panhandle. The most feared and savage warriors of all the tribes of the old West.
Many believe their spirits still ride the night wind here.

Some Willie G style picking to a buffalo skin drum beat.
