Description : UPDATE: Final version, moving on now. Shall we say that the pitching issues still existing are purposely there... ;)
***********************************
This Project was about learning about basslines and guitar(-sounds created in FL, not the real thing) and trying to keep away from over using the piano and vocals.
It's a weird piece and nevermind the ending, it went too far - I was impersonating a crazy pianist there, I think.
Vocals and lyrics from ImproveWithError and Taratoxic, a drumloop from dj_fre_val and flute played by enzotic, drmistersir, lelandchapman and seanwestman.
It seems I'm starting to overuse flute loops instead...

Also: My kids have kidnapped the speakers so I made this entirely with headphones on and the laptop wanted to set its own touch on this by adding some neat crackle and pops in the rendering process.
Thanks for listening.

Well this is something a bit different. The into is kind of ambient or chill out and then it progresses into a slow kind of breakbeat number. Like the swirling pads, the bass and the piano.
The vocals are kind of hypnotic as well.
A mellow number with lots of original ideas.
I enjoyed it.

Hey SJ, this is pretty awesome, definitely the best song I have heard with the pella. I love the vibe that you set with your music. I really enjoyed this one, and thanks for using my vocals.

Hello!
The pleasure is all mine - I actually had a lot more of your pella there from the beginning and was not happy to cut out a big part because it really did fit and I liked it so much, just that the instrumental was slightly out of key for the vocal so I had to do something.
I guess this is what happens when amatours like me try to do things...=D

Well, Im glad to hear that you approve of my rendition!
And thank you for sharing your talent and I hope to hear a lot more from you in the future.

Take care/ SJ =)

Hi SJ,
We have a very interesting piece of music here. Kyle has a great voice and I *TOTALLY LOVE* how you "used" it! A bit "off" in some points but it adds a lot of tension. Veeeery good!
The bass: good sound, I like that you chose a pretty aggressive sound for such mellow tune. Again, it helps to build tension.
Good work!
Ciao, Domenico

I have to admit I haven't been keeping up with a lot of people here lately. You've certainly developed some mad production skills SJ. This track is full of wonderful sounds, melodies and effects that you've expertly mixed and mastered. I cant offer much in regards to the vocals other than it seems like Taras timing and pitch sounds spot on to me.
I really dig your style too. Please keep them coming.

Hi and yes, I have the same problem - too many talented people here to keep track of and too many tracks to listen too - where is the time for all that?!

Don't know if I've developed any mad skills though, hahaha!
Half the time I still really don't know what I'm doing...
But thanks for listening and leaving your thoughts!

Take care/ SJ =)

Hi S J,

Let the kids keep the speakers! ok there are a few minor points on pitch and tone, but easily sorted. The main thing is you have produced a fabulous track, the piano is gorgeous, vocals fit so well and the whole track just creates such a special atmosphere. A big like from me and thanks for sharing.

Very best wishes,

Mark/Larry!

Hi there!

Yeah, the kids can keep them, hahaha!
I'm still feeling a little unhappy with some parts in this song but promised myself to not mess with it anymore. I need to get going with some other projects so the minor issues here will probably have to remain as they are.

But really - thanks for the review and for taking your time!
And see you around /SJ =)

So I just listened to this FINAL version. I never got a chance to hear the original as you pulled yesterday. I really like this. It's dissonant and atonal in some parts and that sounds awesome to my ears. I think it's perfect and I wouldn't change a thing. the levels of piano are perfect, the synth washes in the beginning and gently spread out throughout the mix are nice. I just had my wife listen as well and she was impressed too. Your developing an ear for the dissonant and in-congruent in music and it's making your musical choice sound more and more sophisticated each song you produce. But in this it's also the less is more approach in the beginning that makes this interesting. well done bravo.
some examples of this style of music...the opening 1:12 of "Ladytron" Roxy Music

"Newtown" Bryan Ferry Which Bryan ferry had rumbling around in his head for like 10 years before recording it.

"Ghosts" Japan

Thank you Steve!!
Really nice to read this, I don't think you missed much having not heard the first version - I only added some piano (after the encouraging words from Ed) and repitched some of the guitar/bass and flute sounds. Oh, and added some percussion in the very poor first drum line in the beginning (thanks to Behnam! ;)). And took away some of Kyle's vocal. Hey...that maybe was a bunch of things in the end anyway.

That track from Talk Talk - now I'm stuck! I 've been listening to it over and over and over again since yesterday, don't Think I ever heard that one before. What a tune!
My music is nothing like that but I'm hearing some minor similarity with those songs from Brian Ferry though.

Say hello and thanks for the listen to your wife too and have a good day!

I love Kyle`s clear vocal style....SJ...dont hold back on the piano.I love it..Its one of the most expressive instruments ever & I will never get tired of it..I could sit in the corner with a cool beer and listen to a piano player all night......I wish I could play it properly but I am just self-taught and quite inept....I understand Behnam`s point about pitch...its a little noticible at the intro but the airy nature of the music would only make it recognizable by a skilled musician like Behnam...and its great that we learn from one another here on the Loop...Its also great that we can create and listen to music like this that is a piece of individual art...and real expression...as opposed to the canned stuff our radios play...Good for you..I always enjoy listening to what you come up with and this is no exception....as danke has said....its different...and its special....Keep doing it and if you have too many piano parts over at your place just send them over to me....all the best...Ed

Hi again Ed!
Piano is my first and last instrument, really - I also listen to plain pianomusic from time to time, there is nothing like it.
Have you heard this amazing guy playing all the Coldplays hits on piano?
Here you have him: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5mYJrpx0gI
I used to listen to him for the longest time, over and over again.

But this FL pianoroll piano isn't the same and I'm trying to develop an ear for guitar and bass and also other sounds, it's probably better to learn to use all sounds and not just the piano...
But if I had a real piano and could play everything on it I'd probably do just that! =D

Ok, about the pitch - from start I thought about having no vocal in the beginning and just have Tara coming in half way trough. Why didn't I stick with that idea?!
Maybe I'll just do that now then.

Thanks Ed for listening and leaving some thoughts!

Well , SJ cause I know there's no Islamic republic behond that monitor to arrest me for critque ,I respectfullY think :
1_U man can change scale of your instrumental .I think 1 or 3 or 5 semitones maybe even. this is not false what I'm hearing now ,buT not quite tuned for Kyle & Tara's voice.specially I think Kyle's melody includes some diese and bemol that U haven't considered them.
particulary I really admire this music that I'm hearing , buT music seems some how at a loss what to do for expressing
lyriX .without vocal , that music is very welldone...and I'm talking just about tuning .without vocals that worX perfect.

2_look SJ , have U paid attention to your drums ballance in majority of your musiX ?there's no or maybe just few sounds of cymbals ( crash_hi hat_ride_hi hat pedal )...
http://drumnuts.com/LESSONS/How-To-Read-Drum-Music.php
in fact between various parts of a simple drum set , U usualy select just Bass sounds . & this cause a lack of
hydrostatic equiblibrium ( if we can say ) in your musiX.
U're absolutely superb , and just I'm talking about some details..& U know I'm a fan of your musical style and I reallY wish U don't mind if I tried to be more usefull than leaving a Bravo & go as commenT.
all the best.____B

Behnam!!
Yes, the pitch!
I didn't want to pitch the vocals and was to stubborn to repitch the instrumental...Kyles vocal I know about but I actually thought that Taras vocals were in the right pitch?
But you are the teacher - you are most probably right.

About the drums - I don't know anything about drums. That is a real problem, I have tried to build my own percussion line in FL and it never works the way I want to. It just doesn't. So thanks for the drum lesson!!!!

I want hydrostatic equilibrium!

Take care Behnam and thank you for teaching me things.
Really - I appreciate it.
And see you around!

Inspired by a track of Pseudoble. I was noodling along to his track "I wish I didn't know" (which is awesome) and had the words "Snow in Athens" in my head. This with the smooth jazz/fusion atmosphere led me to this track with a sort of Steely Dan feel.

Description : Psychedelic blues hip hop with lead banjo and acoustic resonator slide guitar. Acoustic drum kits, fat basslines, soaring filtered strings, some strong Eastern elements (from guitar and strings), some dub and funk from the bass and drums and a bit of rocking electric guitar. Very unusual piece of music and a trip like no other I've heard. Some of it is like a dark, deep Southern delta blues track over a hip hop and dub backing. All played and programmed by me, no loops used.

After a quite turbulent long travel we’ve reached a totally unknown planet which is mostly covered with clouds. As we pass over it we can see parts of rivers through the clouds that come out of the dark rocky surface in some places. So the whole scene is alternating textures of white, dark gray and silver flashes. Unfortunately there’s no chance to land anywhere so we just pass, wonder and travel on …
