Description : Learn something new everyday, take it as the only way. "What makes you an exception?" Know your enemy enough to protect your friends. This song consists only of samples and vocal loops. I'm calling it acid house, correct me if I'm wrong. I like how the acid bass turned out, considering it is made from just a one shot sample. Thank you for listening! My first impression after reading your comment was how sweet it was, and I realized that this may be the result of having had my hands deep in the soil only a moment earlier. Either way, I am still deeply honored by your words, and humbled as well. I too am proud of this work, but I must give credit to those who were derived from in this work, including but not limited to Terence Mckenna. After having experienced the other bomb through massive filtration, your mention of a bomb is respected. Robert Smith knew what he was saying when he wrote, "I don't know what's going on." Thank you for listening my friend!
I would call this Aceed-Step. As it has elements of old school dub-step and even older school aceed (acid-house) with a sprinkling of Electro. Super Creative and spivtastic (A new word to secribe great electronic music)
Steve
Hey Steve, thank you very much for your comment on this track! I really can't claim to know much about old school dubstep, I just took a ride on the wave (2012-2013) for a little while and then nearly lost myself in the undertow. Acid though I've been enjoying for quite a long time. I like the acid from the early 90's and the early zero's especially, but I can't help but listen to new stuff when it comes up. Coming from someone who knows their classic electronic music well, your comment pleases me! Appreciate it!
hey spiv, the crazy sounding intro grabs the attention straight away. the track itself has a real nice driving forward groove which I like and those vox samples are super cool too.nice choice. all in all I like it a lot.
Hello friend! Thank you for stopping by to listen and leave a comment! It's made me happy seeing people getting into an acid track. Some vox samples were quite up to date and probably spread all over the net, and some of them were sitting in my collection unnoticed. It all fell together though in the end. I really appreciate the positive vibes! Thanks!
Pat,
Never heard this style before…fascinating. Your mastering skills are improving. The whole thing was like a bit of an emotional roller coaster. Enjoyed.
Mark.
Hey Mark, thanks for stopping in to listen! I guess I'm surprised you haven't heard acid, but then again not as it's not as popular as it used to be, and even then it was usually underground. It's a recent addition to the genres on Looperman too. I was happy that it became the most commented acid track on looperman after two days. Thank you for the support regarding mastering! I've been trying some new things both in mixing and mastering lately, so it's good to hear. The day of posting this track was like the culmination of a several month long emotional roller coaster ride, so I guess that makes sense. I think I'm on the ground and in the straightaway now though, so that's cool. Thank you very much for listening my friend!
I have not been around looperman to listen this year, so this is a good way to start catching up on some Talent .
Irony is I stopped using samples for this year exception being vocal acapella from Dwayzo and a speech from Tommy Sheridan. I am nearly on my 7th track completion for my new album PARADIGM. All revealed soon on soundcloud :) I love the vocal choice and that acid pad holds the mood real nice. I just remembered I have you on souncloud, need to listen and see what you have been up to spivkurl. Peace Brother.
Hey buddy, it's good to see you around again! It's nice of you to stop in and listen as well as leave a comment. Looking forward to the album! Was just having fun with samples like I used to. Hope to see you here and on soundcloud. Thanks much!
Love the track bro, it seems to take you on a journey or something, like it's telling a story...the change ups are cool.Loving the mix on this, it's crazy but I can't seem to listen to anything these days without listening hard at the mix, this is good.
Thank you very much for the cool review! I hadn't thought about the song telling a story, but I'm glad you feel that way. I know what you mean about listening closely to mixes. I think that can really help one learn to express what they want through their mixes. I really appreciate you listening! Hope you are well!
I must say it is a very creative song. Cool bass for sure. The vocal samples were interesting, some sounded like they were drunk, lol. Overall the many effects on the vocals and the lyrics cannot be overstated!
Different from a lot of your music but I like different. I couldn't tell you a thing about acid music but sure liked this track, well done Spiv!
Hey buddy, thanks for the kind review! I know you're always up for some out of the ordinary listening, and I appreciate you coming back for more. The different vocals were stretched and manipulated into submission, hence the drunken vibe... oh and all the liquor in the last couple weeks probably played a part. It's kind of like I was trying to do something along the lines of what I did long ago, except with modern software. Kind of worked out. Thanks for taking a walk on the acid side!
Acid... yes, definitely this is "acid" :-)
I have to admit that this is not my favorite song of yours, but at the same time I have to agree with what other Loopers already wrote: you are never short of creativity and your bass lines are always killer ones!
So, not my cup of tea, but nevertheless a good listen.
Ciao, Domenico
Thank you friend for leaving a nice comment, even though the song isn't up your alley so to speak. Was really just trying some different things, and I liked what it turned out as, so I shared it. Glad some people are enjoying it at least. Happy that you liked the bass, that's definitely important in an acid song. I appreciate you listening!
Hey thanks friend for taking a listen! I'm not sure if I'll be doing a new mix of this or not. I've been kind of focused on inducing a spontaneous vibe into my songs, and remixing can destroy that vibe, so it's a tough call. I appreciate the comment!
Hey friend, that means a lot to me, especially since you make just amazing electronic music! Makes me happy that it enhanced your moment even a little! Thank you so much for listening and leaving a positive comment!
Mate wow, very different sound, but totally loving the groove and vibe bursting out of my speakers, excellent use of the vocals, acid to me is the right genre for this little gem, you never cease to amaze me my friend with your works, this is excellent listen, from here can not fault in anyway...RARELY download tracks from the loop, but this one is a must download so can play on surround sound...Excellent my friend, made my day hearing this piece...MASSIVE fav...Peace n awe...Mosaic...
Hello Mosaic, thank you for listening! It is much different from what I've been doing lately, I think it's more along the lines of what I used to try to do, but didn't have the experience yet. Glad you enjoy the vibes, that's sort of what acid is about to me. Vocals were a fun thing to discover, and definitely were the main influence in this song. I'm interested to hear how this interacts with a surround system, as I really have no way to test that. Thanks for faving and DL'ing, I'm honored! Take care!
Brother Patrick, this is outstanding work. It is unique. I was thinking of 'what would Basement Jaxx come up with when locked inside a laboratory for a few days?'...and it would be something like this!
Great experimental work on the vocal samples too! Faved and downloaded.
Hello friend, and thank you so much for the great comment and the fave! It was a really good experience making this song, and it had some healing effects on me. Hoping that flows into others who listen to it. Basement Jaxx is something I've only barely listened to, but I take it as a compliment. The word laboratory keeps coming up in my life these last few days, it's kind of strange. Maybe it's from working in a lab for so many years or something. The vocal clips were like found objects for me, and I like that sort of thing. They expressed what I intended pretty well. Thanks much for listening and leaving your words!
i have never heard anyone manage the lows in a track like you, Pat. the bass is crazy growly. i like the smooth mellow fellow overall and the mix is superb as I've come to expect. these vocal loops are definitely smokin' somethin! peace, buddy.
Now that is a nice thing to say! I have to admit that *usually* most of my time and thought goes into a well crafted low and low mid range, on each instrument, the mix, and the mastering. The growly sound would probably be due to Ohmicide, which I tuned in how I like it to max out, and then controlled the wet/dry mix to the inverse of some drums... at least I think that's what happened. I was smokin somethin most of the time too, and you can hear it a little. Glad you enjoyed listening! Thank you for contacting me!
Alright Spiv? Thought i'd check out your latest offering. Those acid synths are insane, been thinking about purchasing myself a 303 to make this kind of stuff as the FL 404 doesn't quite cut the mustard. Anyway, this is really good, dig the vocal samples and the heavy beat. Like the way you sliced up the vocal, this reminds me of being at a warehouse party totally off my head wondering what the hell is going on with this kind of stuff playing.
Although if you wanted to make it better how about buying a few sweedish house loops for five bucks each lol?
I really enjoyed this sonic journey.
FR
If you're asking if I'm alright, you can set you're mind at ease. Thank you for stopping in to listen! I know what you mean about the 303, but after recent experiments I really feel more free when using other sound sources for acid bass. Don't get me wrong, I love the 303, but it is definitely a little played out as far as tone and sequencing goes. This bass was created primarily with a sample I got probably 10 or more years ago, the basic FL studio sampler, and a multiband distortion plugin. Glad you enjoyed the vocal parts too, was fun to find the right phrases to use. I'm kind of into stuff that sounds really cool and different when your high in multiple ways, so I get what you mean. I can think of better ways to spend $5, and worse too I suppose... Thank you for leaving a great comment, I know you know your acid!
I think the track you have made is great, somewhere between chip music, dubstep and chillout. Chip music because several of the sounds are chip sounds, dubstep because of the frequent "wubs" and chillout because it is quite calm.
I read in one of the previous comments that you were not sure if you were going to develop this track anymore, so I won't give you any improvements.
By the way, could you check my tracks on Bandcamp? My music is of several styles, and I started to recently do breakbeat music (I tend to do electronic styles, e.g. electronica and house). Link below: http://electronicxpmadness.bandcamp.com
Thanks if you check my tracks and keep up the good work! :)
It's an interesting take on this track that you've showed me, so thank you for that. Really, the sounds aren't chip, the main ones are vintage mostly, analog and phase distortion, but I understand why you would think that. I wasn't going for a dubstep bass sound, but it may have seeped in since I did a lot of that in the last couple years. The drop before the breakdown was a little dubstep influenced though. Didn't really think of this as calm, but I think I was using it as a sort of meditation, so that makes sense too. Thanks again! I don't *usually* take outside links from Looperman, but since you made me look at things differently, I'll give it a chance.
Your progressive attempts makes you so unique...this is outstanding...I can't say I never heard this laboratory work but this kinda sound effects are so rare...specially right here...your working attitude is special, you are one of the best keys and midis producer...
A comment like this, especially when written by an artist I completely respect, is a wonderful thing to read, so thank you! The "working attitude" you mention here, I must admit, was taken with a different approach this time. Tensions were running high, and I kept busy, bouncing between more mundane daily activities and sequencing/mixing. Short sessions, each with a different approach. Seems to have worked, but I think some people are repelled by that sort of thing. To say that I'm one of the best is very kind, I couldn't admit to that until actually experiencing how other people do their thing. You've made a significant positive impact on my week. Thank you!
This is some pretty trippy stuff. Some very complex mechanical sounds here, but they flow together rhythmically and fluidly. Had to have a second listen to really appreciate it.
Thanks Steve for commenting on another of my tracks, I appreciate it! Makes me happy when someone comes back for a second helping of a track. The bass and stuff wasn't really intended to be this complex, but I got to experimenting with some techniques I don't use much and they really worked with the sample I was using. Hope you're doing good!
Cool track. It has a great sound overall. I admit acid is not what I'm personally into but I like how you used the acid bassline as pretty much a lead instrument when it carries the track for about a minute.
But for sure my favorite part starts at 1:51. Love how you work in all the vocal parts and how they evolve and change as the track moves on.
Thanks friend for taking a few minutes to listen and leave a comment! Acid is definitely an acquired taste, but I was raised on it... and I don't really mean the music genre././. heh... But really I've been listening to acid house and acid techno for quite a while now, and I used to try to make it on Rebirth and MED Soundstudio back in the day. Loving the challenge of creating old school sounding acid lines with new software and samples of vintage gear too, and also trying to update it a little, such as in this song where I bring in some glitch elements to the bass. Yeah, the breakdown part around 1:51 I like too. it wasn't how it was intended though as I completely revamped it before releasing the song- it wasn't breakdownish enough. The vocal parts are definitely the important parts, found some samples I didn't even know I had, and they fit in with the ones I ripped from a vegan brainwashing speech. I appreciate your comment and support!
Hey friend! No, I don't intend to stop expressing myself any time soon, thank you for noticing! I'm please with the synth bass, never have I gotten such a believable acid sound from just a synth hit sample. Kind of addicted to acid bass again lately. I really appreciate the fave and DL! Hope you are well!
well designed , calculated & considered anarchy .multi-phase in both meanings ( musical & normal meaning ) plus sensible Spivkurlian innovation .. I just was waiting for more variety and changes about repeatetive beaT .. especially cause generally -i don't know if U've played drum or not - buT U've a good mentality of membranophonic instruments beating as I've seen & that's what is sensible even in your wonderfull loops here ...
Patrick do U remember I didn't know what the Acid genre is &
U were the first one who voted a trial of mine which is in hiden traX now ( an example of my missknowings___description below that was about I don't know what the genre it is !)is in acid genre & the first one who described about that for me ??!..
...my appreciative smile & wink .take care buddy...___B
Hello my friend, and thank you for your insightful review. (as they always are) I see where you are coming from in regards to changes in the beat, and in this case I was focusing on minimalism and subtle changes, and not so much complexity and fills as in my usual tracks. The early parts are more syncopated broken beat sort of work. Things get more quantized and repetitive later in the track, and I think I possibly used the high hat pattern to often. I have played drums a bit, when my friend loaned me his kit for a few months quite a while ago. Mostly wanted it to sample a real kit, not so much to get good at playing. I have been trying to induce a little swing or groove by playing parts in with my MIDI controller and not quantizing them, and it helps a little. I was going to put this under "house," but then remembered that there's an acid genre here now. I pretty much suck at house, but I can make some pretty authentic sounding acid synths so it made sense. Here's a wiki link about "acid house" if you wanted to learn more about the history https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acid_house Hope you are doing alright! I return your smile, and wonder all night about the wink... is it an all knowing wink regarding this song or just a friendly gesture? Who knows. Thank you for listening!
This is pretty sick Spiv. Seriously, this is my fav track of yours since that assault track you used as an entry to my 2nd run of the loop challenge I believe. You should expand deeper on this this particular sound and maybe add some chillout to it. It already has some chillout elements though, which is why I love this. I thought the sounds fit well in the mix. This is indeed unique, in a very skillful way. I enjoyed the listen bro. peace
I really appreciate your positive reaction! Haven't heard that assault track in a while... Nice to get a fave from you though! I'm still unsure if I will develop this any further or not, as I was kind of going for the minimal side of things. Thank you for listening my friend!
Thank you very much for the comment and for sharing your opinions! I see where you are coming from about elements not fitting with the beat. I guess this song ended up being more about emotion and brainwashing than anything else. I appreciate you listening!
