I did a music class online a few months back, one of the classes/assignments ( I didn't do it :( ) was about composing using sounds recorded from everyday life and our surroundings. I don't recall the artist's name but he made an entire album that way. I think it was called Symphony of Nature. I know it's on you tube somewhere as we had a link to it to watch. It's all sounds like crickets and birds, the ocean, ect. used in place of instruments. Fascinating concept!! Just keep experimenting, that's how we learn :D

thanks for interesting comments on the nature recordings. I just tried to do some search for the video you mentioned but found only this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Cj_X0gnj4g it is some very nice concept as well! I do not have much time to go outside with all my equipment and record too much at the moment. Capturing nature properly will need more energy and hours of sitting/recording I guess... But I will be recording more of 'nature' tracks soon for sure because I love combination of background natural ambiences and synths. Not really a kind of usual 'relaxation music' but something in the manner of: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_SY94KemG0E I discovered R.Rich's music around 2012 and he is my favourite ambient artist (I like Steve Roach as well but he is more ...hm... 'celestial/electronic' haha:). That album with Lustmord ('Stalker') is very dark and depressive, 'Somnium' is extremely peaceful.
I like also his 'Echo of small things', album which contains a great amount of ambient background sounds:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XFKiGNlLhrY
So if I will be producing more ambient (at some point in the future) my stuff will be definitely inspired by all this stuff from the videos for sure as I really listened a lot to Robert Rich's works.

If you will find that yt link please send it to me. I will listen to it!

Now, if someone asked me who this artist is without me knowing, I would swear it's Weather Report! They had this same type of vibe early on in their career.

Really good job on this one, even if I weren't a Weather Report fan.

Ciao,
M.

thanks a lot!

it's good that you mentioned Wheather Report again. There's a great amount of music from 70's and 80's I really like and still find it inspiring.

Yes, your continuous mentioning of WR was a bit repetitive but I don't mind.
Just enjoy the music.

Thanks again for your comment, Alex

That paulstretch is really interesting :D I use it in audacity a little. What a pleasant piece. Such wonderful things come from experimentation! Keep at it!

hey Burt,

firstly I am sorry for such a delay in replying on this one! Basically this piece is all about the experimentation as I can't play jazz very properly so far (being clasically trained). That stretching-time software is very cool and can really transform very common sounds into something very unique (again: I am really much more into an abstract and experimental ambient than anything which is even that close to 'horror' and movie stuff).

Few weeks ago I managed to do quite weird record from the place where I live http://www.looperman.com/tracks/detail/166164

I will be experimenting with field recording soon but my vision on ambient is much more abstract I guess... always focused on the sound itself. LOL

Thanks a lot for your comment,

Alex/Aleksander

Hi Alex,as I'm listening to this I have the images of the small church you restored the organ in,such a beautiful setting, quite sublime....it is no wonder that some of that architectural wonder has found it's way into your music,a fantastic ambient fusion of sounds, this would have a wide spectrum of appeal from cinema to chillout and not forgetting jazz aficionados!...Ferryterry hits just the right style to lift this to the next level as well...great work! cheers Dave :)

thanks a lot Dave. Yes, my playing and music are strongly influenced by my former experiences - that's for sure! I hope I will progress with my jazz(y) keyboard playing soon. I can do that by exploring the acoustic instruments - it is just a matter of time!
Thank you again for some very kind words! It is much appreciated. Alex

Inspired by a track of Pseudoble. I was noodling along to his track "I wish I didn't know" (which is awesome) and had the words "Snow in Athens" in my head. This with the smooth jazz/fusion atmosphere led me to this track with a sort of Steely Dan feel.

Description : This track is built around the repetitive lead guitar line which I have previously incorporated as an intro for the rocker track "Sweetheart Runner" by LM user TinyFinger whom I have helped in arranging, mixing and producing his song. This extended session was a good oportunity to test some new equipment....Thanks to Tiny for not being mad about it...:)^^

Description : Psychedelic blues hip hop with lead banjo and acoustic resonator slide guitar. Acoustic drum kits, fat basslines, soaring filtered strings, some strong Eastern elements (from guitar and strings), some dub and funk from the bass and drums and a bit of rocking electric guitar. Very unusual piece of music and a trip like no other I've heard. Some of it is like a dark, deep Southern delta blues track over a hip hop and dub backing. All played and programmed by me, no loops used.

After a quite turbulent long travel we’ve reached a totally unknown planet which is mostly covered with clouds. As we pass over it we can see parts of rivers through the clouds that come out of the dark rocky surface in some places. So the whole scene is alternating textures of white, dark gray and silver flashes. Unfortunately there’s no chance to land anywhere so we just pass, wonder and travel on …

Description : Real acoustic, electric and bass guitars played by me. Drums are loops and programmed MIDI. Played piano and synths. Lots of layers and delay. A gated moog, organ, my recorded finger-snaps and a reversed bass guitar effect that sounds like throat-singing. Three movements, divided by moments of calm. Thoughts and feedback are welcome.

Description : Return To Forever was a group that started my love of fusion jazz and this is my attempt to cover their 1976 track, “The Romantic Warrior. I know I wore out several inceptions of this album from LP, cassette and 8 track. The original track was over 10 minutes long, so I abridged it some. Hope you like and download.
