I wish I could put my finger on the exact sound part I am about to describe. But there is something about Australian guitar music that is just so distinct to that continent. Whether it be yourself, Dave, Or Icehouse, or INXS, or Pseudo Echo, or Crowded house or Midnight Oil, Or the Sherbs, or the Little River band, or many others . When you introduce the guitar in your works. You create a soundscape that is reflective of the vastness of Australia. There is a tinge of melancholy, with a dash of vastness of the desert and bushlands, a moment of beauty of the land and area you live on now. And a feeling of nature. I cannot explain why I feel that way when I hear Australian guitar, but being a science based logical guy, I'm sure there is an underlying reason for my assuagement of the Antipodal guitars!
carry on!
Cru
Hey Cru, thanks man! I can't speak for all those guys you mentioned but we're all pretty much from the same generation and I guess it relates to something that influenced the musical thinking of the time here. Australian musicians really suffered from an inferiority complex pre 70's, not so much from ability but rather exposure to what was happening in America and England, all the cutting edge stuff (I'm speaking broadly here) I mean all the blues anyone played in the 60's was 12 bar and apart from widely dispersed jazz aficionados the place was a musical wasteland...Hendrix happened (I'm only mentioning guitar bands) but nobody could emulate him obviously but then Pink Floyd came along! people could really sink their musical aspirations into that, I wore out their records and so did most of my friends playing them over and over...David Gilmore saved us! haha...your way too kind in your review, my guitar playing is always a work in progress, being a bass player I never use a pick so I steer clear of heavy metal it would cripple me! lol...thanks mate!
Cheers Dave :)
Hey Dave my dear friend it has truly been awhile. And I see that your creativity is still in abundance; Wow what a great track man! Love that sifi-ish opening giving the impression that there some sort of inanimate threat that awaits us (though your discription gives a more peaceful alternative).
Then you hook us with your musical prowess, all the elements come together flawlessly. I love at 3:o6 of the song where you run the bass & guitar riff in unison, really nice! As always a master track by a master musician, great work Dave!
I've read a few comments about you "peaking" your levels on this track, perhaps you did it intentionally as part of the feel of the tune itself?
Hey Dennel thanks man! I really appreciate your kind words mate, while I did have a firm idea for this track I also had some new drum software (Rob Papen's Punch) which I had just purchased and wasn't fully conversant with it, of course this is no excuse for the bad levels but a few things did slip through my fingers in the mixdown, the distortion is intentional in the electronic background ambience but I overdid it for a few people's tastes....great to see you mate all the best Dave :)
Great piece and I have to agree about the loudness. The levels need sorting. I know I know my wave forms are almost a block but I aint as talented as you so I've got a good excuse. It sits well with the description.
I'mn interested in space and creation and evolution and the whole science/religion/philosophy of reality ... struggling trying to understand quantum mechanics just now which is a truly mind altering substance in it's approach to reality. I'll give this a few listens whilst reading.
I came up with this recently ... I think it's my own as I don't remember seeing it hearing it or reading it but ....
The very first sentence in the Bible is very short but full of the whole of the creation of reality .... or I could of course just be slightly bonkers.
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
Beginning ... a reference to time.
Created ..... a reference to energy.
God .... a reference to spirit.
Heavens .... a reference to space.
Earth .... a refernce to matter.
Hey the tune was good and I'm downloading it!
Hey Silver, thanks for listening man!...unfortunately I accidentally reset my operating system win 10 just after I made this track and lost all the files, so the level issue will just have to go down as a victim of the loudness wars! lol...the trouble I find with the word of God is essentially it is always the words of men you hear, God has never made an appearance and until he does I am not taking any sky pilots interpretations as fact...thanks again for the listen mate, and no more level issues in the future now that is something you can take to the bank! cheers Dave ;)
Hey Man this is Filaofsoul. Im Back. I can feel that fret less Bass. Love the guitar work outstanding. Man you got a lot going on here and it mixes well. Even though it had to end Great Ending.Let me go and find that 10th Planet! Enjoyed! FIlaofsoul
Hey Fila, thanks man, glad to see you back mate! I was saddened to hear about your recent health issues but also stoked that you've persevered and overcome them, music is good medicine keep the jam going man! cheers Dave :)
Hey mate, thanks for the visit buddy!..totally into having a collab Paul!..I'll get a track together and shoot it your way soon, and I'll be sure to keep your old school epic style very much in mind, this will be totally cool! cheers mate Dave :)
I like this track, as a guitarist I appreciate what you are doing here. Apparently there were some volume issues, but I don't think it is that serious. Well done!
Hey TeeGee, thanks mate! very much appreciate your kind words, I'm guessing 65 is your generation, jeez you'll be as old as I am in 12 years, you poor bastard! lol..be over to check your page soon mate. cheers Dave :)
This is the kind of music I like to listen to much of the time but usually have difficulty finding....quality all the way Dave..the rich sounds wrap very nicely around the bass & flow with the arrangement...is that an alto sax I hear in there (I`m listening with my old Sony MDV600 cans that are great for4 checking highs but shitty on the low end understatement)...music for thinking musicians...always the best stuff over here at your place...Ed
Hey Ed, thanks buddy! no alto on this track, though there is some frequency chatter and distortion from the background electronic track that I made so that would go along way in explaining it. It's a weird thing but I have become addicted to my precision bass these days (haven't touched the jazz in weeks) and now I'm into playing it with a foam mute..I spurned it as a kid go figure! lol...thanks again for your kind words mate your opinion means a lot to me. cheers Dave :)
Hey Danke...thanks man! very much appreciate your kind words, I never use a plectrum so if I tried to play hard and fast on a guitar I would totally shred my fingers! haha...all the best mate cheers Dave :)
Wonderful track MrPJB!
Very tasteful and "groovy" bass lines.
Outstanding work on the guitar: bluesy and "flowing". Liked it.
Overall... good atmosphere and a very pleasant track.
Enjoyed.
Ciao, Domenico
Hey MrWolf, thank you very much for your kind words they are greatly appreciated, I like to play guitar and will do more of it in future tracks..be over to check your page very soon, thanks again mate! cheers Dave :)
Hey Dave! As Pluto was demoted from the planet status a few years ago I found it interesting how you were going to represent a new ninth planet. The intro was pretty cool, some spacey distortion set a mood right away. I thought I might hear more synths than real instruments but the guitars were a cool thought and well played. The synths didn't overpower the mix and added some neat textural elements. This is the kind of music I like to listen to when painting or doing odd jobs around the homestead.
Hey Wayne how's it going buddy. yeah I was going for an ambient feel and I know exactly what you mean by music to 'do' things by. I'd even be happy if it were played in elevators! lol..thanks for dropping by mate I'll be over on your page soon, I really should tune in some Saturday over at Mixposure but I'm always doing stuff it seems..I will make it over for sure sometime soon!..cheers mate Dave :)
This is some masterful stuff but I definitely have a problem with how loud it all is. It's kind of spoiling it for me as it's just too booming and all seems to stay at pretty much the same insistent level. I want the track to have more peaks and troughs, which would probably be visible on the waveform (which they're not cos it's so loud). Some sounds are possibly a bit distorted.
The insistent thing is partly from the overly repetitive drum part, especially that hat, which doesn't seem to vary at all. Maybe I introduce too much drum variety in some of my stuff but here I really do feel some would help. Even just a change off that hat to, say, a ride cymbal.
But the instrumentation's sounds are awesome right from the off.
0:55 your typical, warm, funky, distinctive bass g sound.
Lots of jazzy lead guitar. A bit bluesy too with some of those bends.
1:32 trancey synth arp floating about. And panning about.
Definitely some strange, skilful, spacey fat groove futuristic jazz right here so congrats to you and Zappo. Or at least his keyboards (maybe they play themselves).
Hey Static..great review man, which is going to help me immeasurably in my next project.....I had a few things to contend with whilst making this track not the least among them was Rob Papen's Punch drum software which I have just started to learn (and obviously not perfected) I got carried away a little with the bottom end and overextended the sound levels!..speaking of which those distorted sounds are actually the backing electronic fx track I made with Reaktor's Metaphysical Function, they sound great by themselves but with added instrumentation get shunted to the bottom of the mix and sound distorted, I'll definitely have to watch out for that in the future if I do something similar, yes that insistent high hat (which got it's own separate track! lol) can be very annoying but weirdly it grew on me and I did up the tempo at one stage, haha, but your right I should have varied this percussion element...again thanks for your insights mate it's going to make my music better!...cheers Dave
hello Dave
A beautiful track from you but so very different from your others maybe because of all electronic additions. What can I say more - everything sounds just perfect to me. A perfect amount of electronic ambiences and space within an 'electric'!
Deep hypnotic drumming (especially on the intro part - till 0:55) is reminding me of some music by Steve Roach https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogeY7iDDiYQ There is so much happening in the low frequency drum sound-spectrum of your track and you seem easily entering modern Rap/Trap territories here (also regarding to the drum 'patterns' you're using). Maybe it's because I recently tend to focus on what is happening inside the drum set too much lol or maybe there is some intentional stylistical sound-distortion going on in your mix, not sure. I really like your choise of drum sounds as well as placing of so many little fills throughout (undefined brushes(?) or shaker single thing at 2:40; also the snare lead-in pattern at 4:04).
I can feel almost a direct solar space vibration being projected to me at the very moment of listening. Great composition and guitar playing!
Alex
Hey Alex thanks man!...I did make some mistakes here with the overall volume threshold of the track..Like you I was probably focusing on the deep drums too much and got carried away! lol, it is my new drum software 'Punch' and it's going to take awhile till I'm completely conversant with it, I will also be sampling my synthesizers a lot as well and adding their sounds into punch's sample library so that will be interesting, this drum software is very reliant on midi keyboard control so I will be making hopefully a lot of 'original beats' ! haha...I will wear my hat on backwards?..NO lol...thanks for listening mate!...cheers Dave ?
Thanks for listening mate!..yes I overdid the volume a tad! lol..I'll definitely keep it more controlled in the future, again thanks for you kind review!...cheers Dave and Detlef :)
This composition is sounding very cool! Your bass and guitar work flows so well in the context of the piece, and seems to tell a story. Very interesting synthesis throughout as well. As far as the subject matter goes; I am by nature a very skeptical and paranoid person. I see all these images provided by NASA recently, and they just look like digitally envisioned hope. I don't believe any of it, and I think of it as just one more distraction from the problems right here at home. I realize that it gives some people hope, but I prefer to find hope in correctly living. I think that your song has far more realism than the space programs offerings. I think you guys have performed very well here. I suppose I could add that the whole track sounded very loud to my ears, but it's not important. I enjoyed listening, and I thank you for the opportunity to expound. Great work!
Hey Pat...digitally envisioned hope!...nice one (that would make a good album name!) I'm a born sceptic myself however I do believe that scientists in general do possess at their core the truth of empirical scrutiny, it's more often when their findings are manipulated by government policy or corporate management that the real deceptions start....Yes the volume!..it's pretty obvious that I fell asleep at the wheel( virtual mixing desk! lol) while laying the drum track down....."but officer I was getting into the deep end frequencies and over compensated I guess"...thanks mate! your input is always totally spot on and beneficial...cheers Dave :)
Nice Intro.....Dark beats, ;53 seconds to start to hear that Oort cloud jazzy sound and Kuiper belt guitar. dreamy dare I say Celestial. 2:40 is a small breakdown in the chord structure and nicely welcomed by greys on the planet Nibiru. Nice ambient effects from the planet of Eno! Keys sound like the asteroids gently caressing Gaia to create diaplectic glass like sounds. Well done!
enjoyed that ride!
Cru
Hey Cru..thanks for listening man! It never ceases to amaze me that cinematographers always give objects moving in space sounds of their passage...I guess I'm no different! lol though this track was created while envisioning floating in a tin can and thinking there was something that I could do....glad you liked it mate, cheers Dave :)

==============
Inspired by a track of Pseudoble. I was noodling along to his track "I wish I didn't know" (which is awesome) and had the words "Snow in Athens" in my head. This with the smooth jazz/fusion atmosphere led me to this track with a sort of Steely Dan feel.
Description : It is an elegy, in a modern world. There is fuss and there are sentiments. All together create a scenery where life takes place.
I really hope you like it.
Description : This track is built around the repetitive lead guitar line which I have previously incorporated as an intro for the rocker track "Sweetheart Runner" by LM user TinyFinger whom I have helped in arranging, mixing and producing his song. This extended session was a good oportunity to test some new equipment....Thanks to Tiny for not being mad about it...:)^^
Description : Psychedelic blues hip hop with lead banjo and acoustic resonator slide guitar. Acoustic drum kits, fat basslines, soaring filtered strings, some strong Eastern elements (from guitar and strings), some dub and funk from the bass and drums and a bit of rocking electric guitar. Very unusual piece of music and a trip like no other I've heard. Some of it is like a dark, deep Southern delta blues track over a hip hop and dub backing. All played and programmed by me, no loops used.
After a quite turbulent long travel we’ve reached a totally unknown planet which is mostly covered with clouds. As we pass over it we can see parts of rivers through the clouds that come out of the dark rocky surface in some places. So the whole scene is alternating textures of white, dark gray and silver flashes. Unfortunately there’s no chance to land anywhere so we just pass, wonder and travel on …
Description : I had to go in on this track. This is a future bass, electrofusion song. I posted the full version here full the Looperfam because you guys give me sooooo much support. I can never thank you all enough.
Description : A spoopy song, early for Halloween. This was a collaboration with Micky, who did most of the work.
A musical realization of a poem by Thomas Hardy
Idea: Spearcarrier
Voices: Spearcarrier & Micky
Music: Micky
Genre: We don't know yet. Suggestions welcome. LOL
Description : Messing around with my midi keyboard (I am no pianist as you will hear). Just a bunch ideas put together with guitar and keys. Don't miss the end :-) it shows the obvious lack of inspiration to find a decent ending of the so called musician! This track is work in progress all ideas are welcome!
carry on!
