Say Playa (Mark), Now you know you done made me a big fan of yours, Maaaan (lol!) when you do it you do it right! Always bringing the Funk and the Groove and how in the hell are you doing those full horn sections like that? What I really like about your jazz compositions are that they're like full fledge performances. You give the listener a feast for the ears and I really like your approach to song creation and production. Just a very enjoyable experience listening to this track (as well as your others). Great job Sir and certainly a Fav...

Peace,

"D"! Your stop through is no small matter. The compliments you gave for what you heard hit a certain type of way. Thanks for the time and listen. Those horns are where the heart is! I've got some ferocious brass VST'S in addition to my Brass dude and crew, Mr. Philip Lassiter. Your feedback on how this one and the others translated is priceless. The fave is received humbly and respectively. Peace my friend.

Gotta love that bass & sax. The mix is top notch. Like a professional studio out in LA, or wherever they are now. You're really good at this. Like really, really good. I have to really pay attention whenever I play one of your tracks.

Hello and have a wonderful evening. Another song from you and I'm back again *smile. Great intro with drum and bass. The wind instrument entry is clean and merges wonderfully into the subsequent solo. Everything that comes after that is self-explanatory. The basic bass and drums carry the solos wonderfully and the entry of the funky guitar after about 4 minutes and a few seconds almost introduces the quieter part of the piece. The almost creeping bass solo at about 6:12 is fantastic. Before the song slips away quietly, leaving an emptiness in my headphones. Great piece with live character. I hear it was fun. Greetings Manuela (only my profile name has changed, nothing else smile, I'm still as cheeky as before *lol)

Manuela. Hello 2 U again! :) It is a big relief you found this smorgasbord of sounds in order, and to your liking. As always, I appreciate you stopping by and sharing your point of view. My music needs strategically placed breathers, and I think that's what you picked up around the guitar solo. That's the huge fun part. Not only the instruments riffing, but the musical space they're placed in relation to everything else going on. Anyway, go and have a safe and magnificent weekend. Till the next round!

You keep blowing my mind!!! Honestly, you do! There is so much going on in this piece I'm getting a headache trying to soak it all in. This is Blue Note Level S%#@t (that's as close as I'll ever get to cussing...lol).

I love the horn work, and that sweet guitar. I don't know how you arrived at that ending, but it's unfair! You just want more!

The kind of jazz that is contemplative speaks to me, and this is what THIS is--it makes you shut up and listen. People need to hear your art...You don't belong here, but I'm glad you are.

Swinging - again real musicianship - cant beat it

Sound is amazing, beautiful rich detail, a smorgasbord of cool funky rhythm and sparkling aural delights unfolding over the track and so many instruments to listen too but yes those drums ... spot on

UE your stop, listen, feedback and fave is appreciated big time. So I was watching a documentary on the ladies of Sunset Studios in LA and the one engineer said it took Prince two weeks to get the right snare sound for one song. I didn’t quite understand why that long for a snare sound until I tackled this composition. I went through about at least 20 snares until I got the sound I needed. Then the tweaking process was another thing. I’m saying a whole lot of work went into that snare and you noticing that made my day 4 real! Be safe UE

Hey Mark, glad to see you're still cookin' with gas as always! I did indeed thoroughly enjoy this one. There's a lot to praise in this piece but what jumped out at me more than anything else was the sixteen dotted eighth rhythms. The most obvious example is in the brass at 5:51 but I went back around for another listen and realized that rhythm appears in various forms in different instruments throughout the whole thing. It's incredibly subtle, to the point that I would believe it if you did it subconsciously. But that little detail really managed to unify all the instrument voices and make the song sound completely cohesive.

Oh and IMHO it's not a second too long!

Cam, it’s always great hearing from you. My hope and trust is that all is well with you and yours. This track in particular from the very beginning, is that I got flooded with a plethora of musical ideas just off that drum and bass groove. Like by accident I’m working on another track and I got “pimp slapped” by this groove to the degree that there’s actually 3 versions of it. Anyway your gracious stop, listen, and detailed feedback helps more than words can explain. Have a awesome weekend buddy.

Your tracks have so many details scattered in them. I can tell how passionate you are just by listening to your tunes. The funk, structure, and implementation of each instrument tell an individual story that speaks to my core. Most struggle to make songs even 3 minutes long without them becoming repetitive and boring (I suffer from this) but you make 7 min + songs with complete ease and every second is enjoyable. I don't know how you do it, but keep up the fantastic work!

Modnex, your stop, listen, feedback, and fave is appreciated. This version actually had about another minute before editing. The mix here, I couldn’t cut anything else out. So I did a shorter remixed version that’s in my list of tracks here on LM. I’m strongly drawn to detail and I enjoy burying nuggets in my tracks. Thanks also for letting me know that you made it through the length of this track ok. Be safe.

You are on a high level with producing the music and the sound.

I like that the changes between the parts seems more structured and uniform. The track is also much quieter than your usual loudness level.

You have to have special ears to mix this kind of music. Getting all the samples, loops, MIDI, etc. to line up harmonically, amid a flurry of key changes, is not simple feat.

Great work, faved.

kingmt77 replied 12th Jun 2022 - 2 years ago
Bringer, greetings and salutations. This is from a couple of years ago. One of my simple pleasures in life is crate digging for loops and samples. This one came to being from just one sample. I'm mixing over a new set of headphones with a better frequency range. My aim is less loud and more full. As always your stop, feedback, fave, especially with those laser sharp ears and musical acumen is a big honor. TTYL.

Description : Do not freak out just because this is jazz! There's also blues, rock, funk and a little hip hop in it to break up the deep, chillout jazz sections - gets particularly rocking then funky at the end. Main bassline (the track's foundation) is recycled leftover slide resonator guitar parts detuned one octave to make a slide bass sound. Also features: piano, violin, hammered dulcimer, organ, ethereal pad guitar, bass guitar, jazz/blues/rock electric guitar and multiple programmed acoustic drumkits. This was difficult to make at times as I thought I needed more leads parts eg from sax or trumpet. But I'm happyish with the end result. I expect very little interest in this as it's both jazz and long jazz. But it's also an unusual type of genre-mixing jazz. So, leave your thoughts, good or bad, if you like...

Description : This track contains only free loops from Stayonbeat.com and several loops from Looperman artists (listed below). I "made a promise" that my next track will be use a lot of jazzy loops - well, i done with this track, for the great sadness of jazz lovers or experts i think - i fear they will never forgive me. :) While my ISP launches my internet out of the Earth system for a long time, i had to face the fact that i dont have too much downloaded jazz loops on my computer, so i think no wonder that this one is sounds like if i smoke some marihuana while making it. But hey, who cares, i like the result - it reminds me the (maybe only) really funny episode of "Breaking Bad", where Pinkman uses some heroin and flyes up with an idiotic smile on his face - that chapter is priceless. :D
I dont think this one needs a vocal, but ofcourse you can use it if you want, and as always, just write and i will give any support as i can. Any feedback welcomed too as always. Enjoy! UPDATE 2015.10.24.: improved audio quality - lower lows, higher highs. Now in 256kbps!

Description : I wrote this track about two years ago. I remember at the time I wrote it I was having conversations with BofD and Mark about oddball time signatures so,
I played all the instruments in different time signatures from time to time 3/4 4/4 5,6 &7/8 etc. I wanted this track to be a track where time sigs went to die.
