Description : HAPPY NEW YEAR LOOPERMAN!
===============
I'm not a fan of Christmas songs and I've long wanted to write an anti-Christmas song... This afternoon I suddenly had a piano riff that became a song. Sometimes songs come easy and you know instinctively what you want to do with them, I guess... and sometimes an anti-Christmas song turns into a Christmas song :)
...with a little surprise at the end for all my lovely friends here at Looperman. Keep listening!!

If you have time take a listen and give BaoBou some feedback.
great work buddy, bluesy funky great vocal fun also, its always good to listen too an original seasonal track done well, im sick of the the ancient tracks that are served up every year by the radio stations, well done, i enjoyed my listen
I can hear some of the first stuff i ever heard from u here, but theres some other elements here, too - youve grown as an artist, and so ur like a painter or craftsman who begins to add flourishes that are recognizable as their work. It might be a work in progress, but its further along than some would think. I always enjoy hearing wat youve been up to.
I dig this so much, from the superb bass line, the jazz feel on the keys and the awesome anti Christmas theme haha cool. the music quality is really good BaoBou, dig this!
You do have active tracks very fast pace. You probably do well on some drum and bass tracks. That's pretty good man you know when you're in the zone you're in the zone like you said that you come easy to you and when you try to force something it doesn't come out right to right wow that's something that I'm just putting stuff together you're doing that and writing you need to be a teacher of music lol I'm still trying to learn notes when I hear them and what keys they should be in. Okay so you said you found the piano riff but you at the guitar and the other keys did you play those instruments? Pro work my friend. I still want the tree but to smoke of course lol
I grew up playing piano, "recorder" (those wooden flutes) and violin; I added guitar, bass and drums later. The drums in this track are not mine of course, I prefer to use a good sample if I find one but sometimes I'll use my electronic drum kit to create a rhythm if I can't find what I'm looking for.
The piano will always be my comfort place - if I try to figure out a tune or chords, I always picture a piano keyboard, even when I'm playing guitar or singing. But the guitar is sort of my happy place, my aspiration, it's where I create melodies.
Interestingly (to me anyway), I create quite different things on the piano, guitar and vocals, and I often eg sing something that I created on the guitar, or take some chords from piano to the guitar to see how they behave there.
I'm definitely not a music teacher - thanks for the compliments though :) I'm just an old man with way too many melodies in my head, too many instruments and a severe case of ADHD ;)
Hey BaoBou, that's one way to really enjoy the Christmas season. It's nice when everyone sits in church with full bellies and snores peacefully. But I have to admit that as a child I fought against the idea that Santa Claus doesn't exist...LOL. Great track! Happy holidays!!!
Cheers,
Micky
Hahaha, as a Dutch person both Santa and the church need to be questioned ;)
We are both music lovers and that's the main thing. Thanks for listening and enjoying the track and have a great holiday period my friend!
When you stated that this was an anti-Christmas song, I didn't really know what I was gonna end up hearing. Firstly, this is definitely NOT an anti-Christmas song. It's more about what is more important than a single day out of the year (my take, anyways). The chorus is BRILLIANT--the best part of the track by far. From a lyricist point of view, the verses need a bit of tweaking--they don't stand up to that chorus. So, I hope you will consider that, because I believe this could be a great not-so-much-of-an-anti-Christmas-song! Definitely one I would sing. Well done!
That's a very good call Mykael! I wrote and recorded the whole thing in a couple hours and the lyrics (and the vocals) definitely suffered. There's also bits of the drumming and the guitar I want to improve, but you're right, the vocals and lyrics are the higher prio.
My plan is to take the weekend and the Christmas break to improve both a bit - then next year November or so give it another go and produce a brand-new fresh and improved version for that holiday season. And man, the idea of you singing my song... that's a dream!!
Wow Baobou!!
Je hebt jezelf overtroffen met deze.
Dit is echt een waanzinnige track .
The music is so cool and also the lyrics.
Happy holidays to you without the jingle bells
Hahaha that's awesome!! Much better than mine :D
Hahahaha I'm crying with laughter here.
BTW here's a quick clip for mine: https://youtu.be/h53z--adQRQ
HAha IT's not very poppy I guess - it felt more like punk, almost, especially with Animal on the drums throughout the track. But if you had fun and you started wiggling your toes throughout the track then I'm good!

Description : This is my newest creation, at a stage very near to completion. No third-party mastering or mixing, as with all my tracks. Just have to fix a few tiny things. I FINALLY WAS ABLE TO MIX EVERYTHING IN THE SAME SESSION. This song has all human-played instruments - no quantization or MIDI! My brother does all the vocals except for the interlude part, which I do. My other brother plays the rhythm guitar (a Gibson Les Paul Custom - only one of 12 in the world!!) and I play the accompanying guitar (a Johnny Mar Jag and PRS). He has a lot of guitars :P A good friend of ours, Ronnie, plays the bass and another friend, Freddie, plays the drums. The drum track was done in one take (had to use an electric drum set due to time constraints - but acoustic kits are so much better). Overall, pretty satisfied with the result. Let me know your thoughts.
Description : Feel free to check out the lyrics video on YT as well :) This is a new track based on the great vocals by Ashes and Dreams! Again, a mix of electronic/progressive/rock, any feedback is welcome
Description : The first track I sing on. Cheap stage mic & no fancy plugins. Heavily guitar laden to the point it's got a bit of a shoegaze thing going on. I pulled the lyrics out of my ass & yes, they're a bit silly.
Description : BIG UPDATE 26/02/2014 - So, this was an 18 min track that I have now successfully split in two. 2nd half I uploaded a few weeks ago (Things That Should Always Be, with the bouncy 2 min reggae intro). This is the first half, which has a new mix, a mega chill, meditative ending and a little jazz thrown in for good measure. Takes a few minutes for beat to really kick in. Constantly evolving electric guitar, bass guitar, acoustic drums and lead banjo driven by fat, busy 80BPM grooves with a bit of a reggae and shuffle feel. Also: synth choir voices, dulcimer, violin, cello, shimmering pads. Builds up gradually to nice and rocking and then gets taken back down for the big comedown chill. I really don't know what sort of genre this is except 'far out'. I think it sounds more like a live band than one guy playing instruments and manipulating a DAW. Not my best track but a bit of blissful, sunny island fun. Real positive vibe here so I hope you give it a chance to unfold and unfurl. Sit back, clear your schedule and immerse yourself in these trippy sonic experiments cooked up deep in my off-planet underground laboratory. I have to send the MP3 to Earth via space courier (not cheap).
Description : This track was like the inhale after an exhale of aggressive industrial-electro-sludge tracks that I had put out that summer and fall. This was the more reserved, and introspective winter track. It's nothing spectacular, but I still really enjoy it. I hope you do too. Take care. V.
