Description : AKA -Simian Defiance - Further jungulations using mostly DJ4Real's samples. Final remix and remaster. Woodchips swept aside, and totem erected, with sounds like a well running tesla coil. Renamed as well to reflect the Spirit of the Thing both literally and figuratively.

The random:
This one takes me back about a year when I first started really messing with ambient tracks (named one similar too- Summer Thunderstorm, more atmospheric in nature).
The good:
I love the subtle bits of synth on this and though the mechanical sounding stuff kinda gets away from the natural element of a storm, they do give it a nice tribal-like edge. All-in-all it makes me think of some kinda storm-within situation (like an assembly plant on the fritz or something)
The bad & suggestive:
Opps, I just looked and this isn't categorized as ambient, it's fusion (my bad, silly me). Hmm, I'm thinkin that given all of the different elements in this track you could maybe experiment with volume fade-ups for each thing (like have a few moments where the drums punch up and are main stage, fall them back and bring up the leads, and so on). Might stand to give the piece more interest and a greater dynamic range. Lates!
This is now such an early experiment to my ears, and you've called everything that I would change if I did it again. I made the foundation tracks on I Am The Mighty Jungulator (free Max MSP program) and then assembled it with the free multitrack program TrakAX PC. Unfortunately, neither of these programs allow the subtle manipulation that this track really deserved. But - I learned loads from doing it and it put me on the path of genre confusion that I'm getting more comfortable with - lol. In retrospect (and now I'm familiar with you) I should have looked through your bass loops to really have made this one Rock. Thanks for the feedback and review!
lol saw you on the most amazing tracks on looperman forums with this song so i thought that i should check it out. nice work on this one. wow the atmosphere that builds is amazing! the work you put into this one sprays out of my speakers like a brilliant painting! this is awesome. it seems to tell a story too. whered you get that rain loop? would love to remix that!
The rain is a public domain field recording I was lucky enough to find in my sample quests. There were several really cool things that came together in this one - the whole storm motif was obvious in the "ethnic" drums and the bonobo/me thing came out of both sounds of loops and effects. The idea of standing defiantly and challenging the lightening storm (something sometimes seen with Chimps) was the story I was trying to tell. Defiance of things bigger than us. Glad you enjoyed this one. Thanks for the review.
What a trip! Very cool, this sounds like an awesome trip to the planetarium, lol!! Thought the rainstorm was cool and then "your" percussion kicked in and then the very cool, trance like synths came in and I was sucked in.... Very cool tune dude!!
Totemic music with heavy allegorical overtones. The original drafts were titled, "Simian Defiance" and that's the `tude I was trying to invoke here. I'm still surprised that something so "thick" works as well as it does. It's still one of my favorite creations here. Thanks for the compliments, Wayne. It's great having you as a compatriot and ally! Cheers.
Man this is full on track but in a good way, so like it, well done in getting these samples etc to make this very interesting track, so like your work here, very good...
I was having a pull to do NOIZE when I came to this one, so it's a Wall of Sound for sure. I'd still like to change the ending on this one, but it still works. Cheers.
This is a very exciting track! You can always be relied upon to please my ears, especially with the variety of instrumentation which you use. There is always something fresh in your work, something unexpected. I love all these layers, they just seem to fall right into place together. Such depth to this song, you've really outdone yourself. Very cool work!
Spivkurl - I started this piece to exercise my attraction to making Noize. For some reason, everytime I sat down to make something lovely, these industrial sounds would begin to emerge. I thought making something loud and abrasive might get it out of my system, but instead it got directed into something else entirely. The drum samples from Maldives (3 loops) really were the launching point, but it was in listening to some of the other sonic choices that the Principal arose and I could hear the voice of Bonobo (the Chimp is a metaphorical me) challenging the noise. Once I identified what was trying to happen, it actually became a lot of fun and a personal challenge to bring it together. So many sounds in this one speak directly to other ones, and I think the sound of thunder and rain really drives the point home. Layers and layers of reflected meaning. Thanks for the review and encouragement here!
I LOVE looking through your track list!!! With no one else's track list have I ever felt like each title is just it's whole own universe of fresh, glossy rooted all the way back to the start and with it's paws in tomorrow, all wrapped up and propriately labeled, ready for consumption. this is exactly like an idea i was thinking about earlier today that i might do for my next "epic" thing. like i was reading a bit in a book on mythology, and was thinking how interesting that these stories that were written 1000-3000 years ago written way back then are still received today, and how far technology has come, and how we here on this site kind of create a universe of perception in our tracks, and where the technology will be quickly - able to create entirely absorbing multimedia experiences and share them across the web, got your cool holo helmet or whatever - and just the possibilities ...... of course, that one day, you wake up, and all your life was virtual and you were growing in some dude's bathtub while he harvested you for teeth and organs. eeew. Lovely universe around me now man. i love this track. so not budging in texture and sticky grit, but still cool and smooth as it glides up past me rough. lovely.
This collection is actually an self-conscious examination of my own mythology and symbolic system, so you've nailed that one on the head! For my next 'epic' work, I'd like to identify and articulate the archetypes that have arisen in the last 30 years but are still invisible on the conscious level. To do this, it seems that first it's important to understand my own means of apprehension. Hence the "Totems from the Diaspora," as the prequel to what's coming. I'm convinced by thoughtfully examining history (and nonHistory) we can thwart any nightmare futures - but it does take effort and personal responsibility. Art has always been the premonitions or forecasts of what might come. It sure gives a different sense of the responsibility of dreaming, doesn't it. Thanks for the fabulous review, friend!
Everytime I think that "When Hippos sing with Frogs" is my most intense track, I remember this one. Definitely another one of my music "essence" pieces, my greatest worry was it going too far. Glad it worked for you. Cheers!
Every time I hear this track, and hear the way it continues to evolve, it grows ever more mezmerizing. I love the title. I can almost visualize this clash of spiritual entities and natural forces. Like some god like battle between the forces of nature and human kind. Very surrealistic, and hypnotic amongst all the chaos. Just listening to the style, I can see we work along the same lines of creativity. Keep doing this stuff. The world needs this kind of sound exploration!
Thanks for faving it! This is the ultimate form of compliment to me. The bonobo for me is very metaphorical and thought provoking as it appears we're closer cousins than with the common chimp. The cultural difference between these two groups is truly profound, and like the Dutch anthropologist I wish we'd discovered the bonobo first. The image of a bonobo shaking a branch at an electrical storm in defiance is what this is all about. Something about simian defiance against gigantic natural forces to me reveals why we're spiritual or religious by nature. I think it's why you and I are creating these kinds of sonic explorations. Mysteries with capital 'M'.
Funny it's the French Artiste that gets the title! As ethnography grew out of French surrealism, it should be no surprise I'm following in that tradition. C'est musique pour les Monde, n'est pas? I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I'm really flattered to see how many times you've played this track! Collaboration actually makes sense between the two of us - we both like to mix up very different musical traditions, don't we? Yeah, I like this idea. I'll send you an email and we'll try to figure something out. Cheers.
Very nice, The wall of sounds in this, the mesh that fits so perfectly together, like a jigsaw. The pieces slotting perfectly together. It just works.
I can say no more.
Thanks and I look forward to checking your tracks out! Funny timing, I just had pulled out my copy of "South Africa Mega Mix" today and see you're from the area. Some bloody good music, both new and old, coming from your zone. Cheers.
I love your work. Totally original. This new track keeps the faith in my opinion. Strange, transcendel, organic and at the same time deeply interesting. Keep them comin'
i love the feeling.. there is a fantastic sense of imminent death... in fact, for some reason it made me think of imminent death...
I am gonna be really completely honest with you n0mad23, as , really all we are, are musicians with avatars, and you remember about a month ago? when all those thunderstorms came out thru washington?... i was in east washington, and thru my depressive and frustrated state, i drove into the storm, and parked in the heart of it, and walked around screaming and cursing at God.
I lived, and that has to mean something...
maybe personal experiences have to do with replays on a track?
gonna download this and listen some more tomorrow.
Wow - this is a very interesting review. It's an "ego" stroke to think the music caused this kind of reaction. I've been wondering lately about sensory priority lately and certainly sound is closer to the real than image. For sure a particular sound can jack you right back into a memory - and there's no better mnemonic device for accessing said memories.
I don't get "imminent" death from it - but I do see the connection. Simian defiance is about standing and facing death, but hopefully staring it down in the process. Like your own experience in the storm?
Credit where it's due: thanks everyone for the fabulous samples used here.
yeah its hard to get that revision EXACTLY the way you want it sometimes.
i have learned myself really well when it comes to revisions.
you just gotta know what you want and how you want it.
nice track man.
this is COMPLETELY different from the music i usually listen to.
its always good to mix things up, and this track is the perfect way to do so.
diggin the drums hardcore!!
Thanks! It was a fun track to draft, and I wish I was having better success in the revision I can hear in my head. If I can pull off this down-tempo ending I think it'll be SOOOOO much better.
Cool track. I like the layered drums : Central Africa meets Berlin electro heads. Thought the drums could vary a bit later on in the track, maybe shift them in relation to the main beat or something.
Thanks. It's still getting picked at (slow dissatisfaction) but your idea is basically what I'm trying to do with the revisions. I'm attempting to take the boduberu samples (from Maldives -thnx ShareX) and down tempo them at the end. I'd like them to progressively slow down and fade with the sound of the storm. I'm doing this with Audacity and finding it to be a real challenge. I'll shoot you an email when it's done and see if it mirrors what you had in mind. Cheers.
Another great track, the more I listen the more I like it,be careful if you close your eyes for too long cause you could end up in a place far, far away....
thanks for sharing this !
Great work man... love the work u've done. its really different from the way we've ever used boduberu. Hope i get a chance to upload more loops soon. Thank you.
One of my best friends is an ethnomusicologist, so I was completely blown away that the Boduberu drums existed here (This is not my first encounter with Doduberu). Now I see why - ShareX, you're from Maldives! Please upload more loops! The quality of these three ARE BRILLIANT! Thank you ShareX.
Thanks alex77bmf - The revision I'm working on right now is a changing the ending quite radically. I'm experimenting with slowing down the tempo of the Boduberu percussion track and making it into Simian's final defiance - chasing the storm away. We'll see how it turns out.
blackryan - thanks! Honestly, I'm not satisfied with it yet, but I've gotten some feedback that's really useful and will be redoing this one. The biggest surprise to me is how much people like it! And I have checked out Ozric Tentacles - nice trippy sounds underlying some driving rhythms! Thanks for pointing me in that direction. ps- I really like your avatar - is there personal significance here?
Great Tune! i love the feel your getting with it! Sounds like it could be opened up into a bit of DnB...with some distorted guitar doing a riff and a fast beat in the back. i like it a lot buddy!
Thanks Chris - yeah I've been wondering about the possibility of a remix with this, too. I think I'll keep pushing forward with experimentation and new material for now. Too much fun!

==============
Inspired by a track of Pseudoble. I was noodling along to his track "I wish I didn't know" (which is awesome) and had the words "Snow in Athens" in my head. This with the smooth jazz/fusion atmosphere led me to this track with a sort of Steely Dan feel.
Description : This track is built around the repetitive lead guitar line which I have previously incorporated as an intro for the rocker track "Sweetheart Runner" by LM user TinyFinger whom I have helped in arranging, mixing and producing his song. This extended session was a good oportunity to test some new equipment....Thanks to Tiny for not being mad about it...:)^^
Description : I had to go in on this track. This is a future bass, electrofusion song. I posted the full version here full the Looperfam because you guys give me sooooo much support. I can never thank you all enough.
Description : Psychedelic blues hip hop with lead banjo and acoustic resonator slide guitar. Acoustic drum kits, fat basslines, soaring filtered strings, some strong Eastern elements (from guitar and strings), some dub and funk from the bass and drums and a bit of rocking electric guitar. Very unusual piece of music and a trip like no other I've heard. Some of it is like a dark, deep Southern delta blues track over a hip hop and dub backing. All played and programmed by me, no loops used.
After a quite turbulent long travel we’ve reached a totally unknown planet which is mostly covered with clouds. As we pass over it we can see parts of rivers through the clouds that come out of the dark rocky surface in some places. So the whole scene is alternating textures of white, dark gray and silver flashes. Unfortunately there’s no chance to land anywhere so we just pass, wonder and travel on …
Description : A spoopy song, early for Halloween. This was a collaboration with Micky, who did most of the work.
A musical realization of a poem by Thomas Hardy
Idea: Spearcarrier
Voices: Spearcarrier & Micky
Music: Micky
Genre: We don't know yet. Suggestions welcome. LOL
Description : Real acoustic, electric and bass guitars played by me. Drums are loops and programmed MIDI. Played piano and synths. Lots of layers and delay. A gated moog, organ, my recorded finger-snaps and a reversed bass guitar effect that sounds like throat-singing. Three movements, divided by moments of calm. Thoughts and feedback are welcome.
Description : Return To Forever was a group that started my love of fusion jazz and this is my attempt to cover their 1976 track, “The Romantic Warrior. I know I wore out several inceptions of this album from LP, cassette and 8 track. The original track was over 10 minutes long, so I abridged it some. Hope you like and download.
Description : A moroccan traditional song from 70s titled "Toudart" which means "Life" in Moroccan berber/Tamazight, revived and composed in a modern way, I used minor2go's piano loop which you can hear on the background, everything elese is from me.
