Description : The Symbolic Ambient Mix I'd envisioned with this one.
Life is a series of ebbing and flowing, the spiral nature of waxing and waning, filled with the highs and lows of experience. I really wanted to try a mix weaving in sounds from the world around us, especially ones that have deep symbolic meaning for me.
Life's an adventure so you might as well take the plunge. Corporeality is a gift, so please take full advantage of this opportunity.
See "The Extended Life" for details and credits. Made on Ableton Live.

I don't normally like fusion and other ambient music, but this is relaxing while still interesting. I like the layering of sounds. i tried to use ableton once and i go wicked confused haha. i just stick to audacity now
Ableton is wicked confusing! I really like it though, as I mostly mix "live" and for the approach I can't imagine a better DAW. Glad this one was better than your usual listens in the genre. Cheers.
I'm almost rendered speechless by this song! Such beautiful sounds you've used to create this atmosphere! Very good recording of these sounds too! Like most of your tracks, this one put me into a trance! Wonderful work my friend! Faved for sure!
Back in the early-mid `90's I was in a band in Seattle called Spirit House that was part of the "Acoustic Trance" musical scene happening. It wasn't Trance music generically, but it would put you into a trance state. I guess we never really get away from our influences, do we?
I think I dig the bass in this one most of all - and that was the ground and subsequent launch for the rest of the piece. Thanks for the review and fave! Supreme compliment - thank you!
beautiful mix of water sounds, laughing (and crying?) baby, love the sound for the melody when it comes in - is it sitar? use of Indian modes? now I begin to understand the concept of fusion a bit more. now i hear some tabla? you really break up well the use of the water, the use of people laughing/playing - introducing more of it later in track. finally ending the piece with water sounds creates unity. i really connected with this work! congrats!
criticism - well - just to give - we can always do more with effects, with panning, with refining. i really liked this track bottom line.
I did two versions of this one, with the "instrumental" being the first go. When I did that one, I could hear the sounds I added to this version in my head the whole time. The instrument you hear as a sitar is actually an Indian santur, which is very similar to a zither or hammered dulcimer. But I've effected it to the point of turning it into something else here. The tabla here is me, and the only loops I used (that I didn't create) was one from planetjazzbass. The more I do this, the easier it is to create the sounds I'm actually looking for rather than find something someone else has made that's close. I get worried about it being a little too "solo" though, but here I think I've avoided that. The water is field recordings from here and Norway. Besides the baby and people laughing, there's a cat, a coyote, a train, and a local crow added to this. All have symbolic meaning for me, and needed expression here. Really glad you enjoyed this one. Will be by presently to check out your musical work. Thanks!
Merci! I spent part of my youth in Cameroon (which is why my French is fossilized now) and the music really effected me. Hopefully I captured some of the happiness of the music that influenced me in those early years. Thanks for the listen and the review.
a great piece. one gets the idea of a family have a great day out at the beach. Even the voices of those around the area are like music because it is such a perfect day and everything in life is in tune and perfect rhythm.
Sorry for the delay John, I just looked at the reviews here and see you left one long, long ago (what happens when I take 3 months away).
Love your "voices...like music" comment. I was just writing a review about using "natural sounds" and wondered if those sounds aren't loaded with information and symbolism. In other words, their sounds touch emotional locations we already carry around.
Shoot me your email and I'll send you a copy in 128 or 320, your choice!
Hello - thanks for alerting me to your presence. I'll be by soon to check out your music as well. I did have a look at your profile and must say you've got good taste in music. Makes me think I'm going to dig your work, for sure. Thanks for the listen and review.
the kids splashing remind me of when i was a kid looking at the water. and the synth and wierd fx'ey strings add a almost middle eastern surreal vibe to the whole track. i like the drum patterns as well. almost dubby at some points while still maintaining that whole nomad, can't copy my style sort of vibe, hell yeah bro. new fav!
Yeah the water and other field recordings teased out a lot of the symbolism I was shooting for here. Dive on in, the water's fine! I think I'm still most enamored with the bass line here - I'm really digging doing more of the Midi work myself and not trying to find loops that kind of work. Thanks for the review and encouragement!
wow, can't believe I went so long without hearing one of your tracks man. This track is brillant. You mixed everything perfectly. Nothing is out of place, the track completely flows from start to finish. I am blown away by this piece!!
Yeah, I think I've got a handful or two you haven't heard yet. My latest project (read - "album") is titled Music to have a Rebellion To, and is definitely taking me down directions not anticipated. I'm really pleased with the direction since starting this one, and the two mixes of this song in particular. The plan is that this track will be the final one, and the non-ambient mix the first. Glad you approve! Cheers.
Matey what a brilliant intro, water splashing and the child playing, then great beat kicking, has very much India sound to the synths that you have used, I am always amazed with what you come up with for your tracks, and have to say they work everytime, when listening to your works you always feel you are right in the middle of what is going on, extremely talented to be able to acheive that my friend, cyrstal clear the production, spot on arrangement, to keep listener hooked right through out the piece, in AWE matey..Instant fav my good friend..Peace and respect Sean, hey Sean have new piece up again diff from my other stuff's, hope you enjoy it...Estefano....
Hi Estefano - sorry about the delay in a reply, and I'm feeling like I'm falling behind in duties. Really glad you dig this version, as it's what I had in mind all along since the concept. It's a real challenge blending "natural" sounds with music, but when it works it's really worthwhile. Thanks much for the encouragement and review!
You certainly have a way of creating a life-like prescence in your stuff. The use of water in music works! Adds a natural beauty to it. It does remind of the ebb and flow of life. Evolving....at times chaotic, at other times still and calm. Very nice track!
Thank you. It's a tricky thing, the merging of non-musical sounds into a musical piece but worth the attempt. I think it's the 4th track I've done now trying this blend, and I learn something new every time. The song itself lends itself to the sounds of water because of elements (esp. cymbals) that are already creating these themes. Glad you enjoyed it!
Hey Sean...I'm reminded of actually how difficult it is to get natural sounds without any of society's background rumble sifting through......this is like market day down at the spiritual crossroads, with a DaVinci perpetual motion machine powering the groove, there's a synergy and environmentally alert mind set at work here...great application and a pleasure to listen to..cheers Dave
Hi Dave - it's true, finding field recordings not filled with the sounds of internal combustion engines or the sounds of industry are bloody hard to find! The ebb and low of the cymbals work well with the waves kissing the beach, don't they - perpetual motion indeed and fueled by the Sun and Moon. Musically, I'm a bit more keen on my other version, but pleased that this "ambient" mix worked. Thanks for listening and giving such a marvelous review.
Thought i would take the plunge while i was on the loop.
Just magical this track is, it just oozes the feeling of deep innocence and emotion. the water is safe here!
Love how the percussion just sits in the backdrop, the emphasis on the happenings in the forefront, spiritual yes. i heard the crow pop up i just hope the deeper the water gets the safer it remains.
Great head visuals you create with your music. brilliant stuff.
It does tease out the optimistic happy emotional places, doesn't it? As I've been playing with the other version trying to finalize it, I'm quite surprised about how intense the percussion is in this one. However, the bass and melodies completely change the feeling, and jack it straight into those happy places. The field recordings seem to add polish to this, and make it even happier somehow. If you listen carefully at the beginning, when the bass drum joins in, you can hear a coyote singing to a train whistle, too, but in this context doesn't feel the least bit ominous. Still trying to consciously figure out why this stuff works! Thanks for the encouragement my friend.
There's something about the sound of water that I connect with so much. I was listening to this and closed my eyes and it felt as if I was paddling my kayak down a busy river. This is very cool, relaxing and inspiring! Great mix, fun listen!
I've got a think with the water, too - but for me it's the oceans and seas. Finally come to grips with the fact that I'm a Puget Sound boy, and feel like I'm home when my nostrils fill with the scent of hydrogen sulfide. I think that our bodies are largely composed of water is the other key. Thanks for both the review and the favorite - I'm feeling really flattered by this.
Hi n0. I'm still getting that Ozric Tentacles vibe that we discuused before but this track also really reminds of Hawkwind's Ghost Dance http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NYpWgV6QJq4. I think it's the rythym. Certainly a lot going on but defo has your distinct flavour.
I haven't thought about Hawkwind in ages! Thanks for the link, and I can really see why this one reminds you of that! Personally I think this quest for originality is rather silly, as there are only so many interesting rhythms and melodies possible (mathematically). The key then is doing something that works for you as the artist. If any one else digs it, it's frosting on the cake. Thanks for the listen!
I'd just been thinking about you, so the timing is perfect. I put both coyote and raven calls in this one to represent the "voices" of our local Trickster archetypes. Maybe I should put in a disclaimer - sounds from n0mad23's examined life? Thanks for the listen and review!
It's the splashing and baby giggling, isn't it? It's hard to stay blue when a baby's giggling like that! A few months ago, alividlife was on a quest trying to encourage everyone to tell a story with music - and the approach here took that into account. I think diving into the waters of life are fully worth all the risks. Cheers. And thank you for the favorite! Huge compliment, my friend!
Hi adam76 - it did come out cleaner than I originally thought. I recorded this last night, but felt unsatisfied so let it sit while I slept. It sounded a lot better to me this morning, so I thought I'd post it. I'm feeling pretty good about this version, and am glad you dig it. Makes me feel like I'm on the right track. Cheers.

Inspired by a track of Pseudoble. I was noodling along to his track "I wish I didn't know" (which is awesome) and had the words "Snow in Athens" in my head. This with the smooth jazz/fusion atmosphere led me to this track with a sort of Steely Dan feel.
Description : This track is built around the repetitive lead guitar line which I have previously incorporated as an intro for the rocker track "Sweetheart Runner" by LM user TinyFinger whom I have helped in arranging, mixing and producing his song. This extended session was a good oportunity to test some new equipment....Thanks to Tiny for not being mad about it...:)^^
Description : I had to go in on this track. This is a future bass, electrofusion song. I posted the full version here full the Looperfam because you guys give me sooooo much support. I can never thank you all enough.
Description : Psychedelic blues hip hop with lead banjo and acoustic resonator slide guitar. Acoustic drum kits, fat basslines, soaring filtered strings, some strong Eastern elements (from guitar and strings), some dub and funk from the bass and drums and a bit of rocking electric guitar. Very unusual piece of music and a trip like no other I've heard. Some of it is like a dark, deep Southern delta blues track over a hip hop and dub backing. All played and programmed by me, no loops used.
After a quite turbulent long travel we’ve reached a totally unknown planet which is mostly covered with clouds. As we pass over it we can see parts of rivers through the clouds that come out of the dark rocky surface in some places. So the whole scene is alternating textures of white, dark gray and silver flashes. Unfortunately there’s no chance to land anywhere so we just pass, wonder and travel on …
Description : A spoopy song, early for Halloween. This was a collaboration with Micky, who did most of the work.
A musical realization of a poem by Thomas Hardy
Idea: Spearcarrier
Voices: Spearcarrier & Micky
Music: Micky
Genre: We don't know yet. Suggestions welcome. LOL
Description : Real acoustic, electric and bass guitars played by me. Drums are loops and programmed MIDI. Played piano and synths. Lots of layers and delay. A gated moog, organ, my recorded finger-snaps and a reversed bass guitar effect that sounds like throat-singing. Three movements, divided by moments of calm. Thoughts and feedback are welcome.
Description : Return To Forever was a group that started my love of fusion jazz and this is my attempt to cover their 1976 track, “The Romantic Warrior. I know I wore out several inceptions of this album from LP, cassette and 8 track. The original track was over 10 minutes long, so I abridged it some. Hope you like and download.
Description : A moroccan traditional song from 70s titled "Toudart" which means "Life" in Moroccan berber/Tamazight, revived and composed in a modern way, I used minor2go's piano loop which you can hear on the background, everything elese is from me.
