This is an interesting combination of such rich horn-section sound and a more dirty harp/slide vibe. I can tell your interest heads both ways, make sure to listen carefully to how you blend them so they don't clash. The bright, polished horns (reminiscent of Motown to a strong degree) have a dominant place in the mix, and this makes it especially difficult for the tonal qualities of that harp to cut through. The same sort of clash occurs at times with the slide guitar part. This song looks toward an interesting marriage of those types of sounds - it's important to do it carefully. Kudos, and keep up the good work!
Hi Slap,
I am finally getting around to check out some more songs here on Looperman and I picked this newest one from your listing. I really like the song and chord progression. You did well on the harmonica and slide guitar as it fit right in.
Thanks for sharing,
Randy
Hi Randy, thanks for dropping by and casting those trained ears on my first slide attempt. I'm working on a few more songs which feature the slide in open tuning, it's such a great sound. I'm practising as much as time will allow and have been bought a book by a friend, this covers all about the great blues players and thier techniques. I'm hoping to get these finished off soon and maybe we can share notes. Cheers Slap...
Slap you are a stud musician. This track sounds great! Well produced, expertly played all the elements are in place. And there is an element of American-ness to it that is unexpected from a someone in her majesty's kingdom. =) A lot of people are feeling some impact and learning from what you do and that can not ever be discounted in value.
Hi sixfingers, I wish sometimes I was just a stud lol. I have always loved the blues, and from an early age liked listening to jazz and blues. American culture has influenced generations and will keep on doing so. I need to hear real instruments being played by musicians with soul and sang from the heart, I know you will agree, that's our bag. Cheers Slap...
Hi XxyounG, Thank you for your kind supportive words about this track. Playing the instruments onto this track didn't take that long, about 2 hours in total from start to finish. Learning to play all of these instruments, now that takes the time!!!! Cheers Slap...
My piano comes from the windy city..that's as close as I've been to it.....this track really points the way towards a great area of American culture..it's such an enormous influence on us all...YEAH!..I can hear that liquorice stick mate!...very sweet, and the slides great....Jeez you are one versatile fella!.....Horn sections always do what nothing else can..they simply levitate tracks...oh..the funny thing is when I have the flu and am near death..I actually sound like a blues player!(talking that is)....very enjoyable piece....tres' chiaroscuro!....... planet
Find a way to bottle that talent and ship some to me. The song is awesome. There's nothing wrong with it. Wouldn't change a thing. If I sent you some lyrics, would you consider doing some of them? BTW, I put up a new tune, fear of committment, please let me know what you think.
You are certainly a monumental talent. Great song all way round. I thought the vocals were good as is. Gives it a nice bluesy/been there, done that/too many late nights with a bottle & a smoke, feel.
Hi Mokeone, if I drop the vocals down an octave I might sound like Tom Waits. To be honest Mr E is right it's a high song and I wasn't at my best, so I intend to sort them out this week. I'm glad you like the song. Chicago just blew me away and I had to do something about it. Cheers Slap...
i saw you were online so i decided to check what u were up too and i found this :D
i quite like how the vocals fit into this song and for me it painted a nice picture of Chicago. even though i havent been there this is how i would imagine it
Thanks Helven, I was online at a gig when you reviewed this track. I'm sorry I didn't have my email open. The place had free connection, so I thought I'd check the only site on the web to fill some time in between sets. Thanks for the review, and keep walking tall my friend. Cheers Slap...
Description : I have been using LooperMan for practice for some time now. This my most recent track. The only loop in the song is BabyGee's vocals. Free to download and if you repost tag me so I can share it as well.
Description : A psychedelic techno cello epic. It's not really techno as it's only 110 BPM but something like that (eg breakbeat), with lots of banging beats and arpeggiated acid synths, plus a whole load of my layered cello playing techniques. There aren't that many synths used but they do a lot of work and are carefully automated. No guitar. Drums are mostly a lot of drum loops, supported by a few programmed acoustic drumkits. Very busy and complicated with loads of different sections (funky, chilled, fast, heavy) that make up a constantly progressing trip. I don't know if there's any other cello music like this so let me know if you think there is. Interesting feedback appreciated - criticism, praise, ideas etc. Enjoy...
Description : Summer type dance track, for those precious 2 weeks off, if you can get them! Made around a selection of different loops and some keys from me.
Description : Inspired by an experimental percussion piece I heard. Rhythmic ticking builds into pounding beats and heavy soundscapes. I haven't done any mixing or mastering yet so tell me what you think. Any and all comments are welcome.
Description : A song about a damaged soul. Sadly, based on a true story. Gorgeous loops here are by Hardstyle Rythm, Aboe, and Princess Hollywood. All basslines by that fiendish genius Rasputin. Take a bow, gentlemen
Description : Pretty basic dance track. Was experimenting with the Falcon synth plugin, hence the name. Instrumentation for the melody lines might be a bit unusual, more orchestral. Vocoder is from the Icarus synth plugin, a great new instrument.
Description : Hello everyone here's a song from my album anymore that really is near and dear to my heart I hope you guys and enjoy it and never let anyone bring you down or tell you that you are good enough!
