Description : Final mix before cd pressing. Mixed through a pair of Yamaha HS50M studio monitors and mastered in Logic.
This is the forth finished song taken from our forth coming album "Festival". This song was inspired by the fantastic zoo at Edinburgh which we have visited twice over the past few years. All of the wonderful and diverse animals that are housed in this massive world class facility which is a great and informative day out. We spent 2 hours just watching the chimps play in the ape enclosure!
I'm really enjoying improving my bass and guitar chops recording this project, also I'm totally digging all the stuff you can do with Logic since I converted to Mac last Summer.
Alexander is blowing the main sax solo on this with me providing the flute solo in the change section. This song has got a huge horn section including 2 alto, 2 tenor, 1 baritone & a flute thrown in to add that icing on the top. The wah guitar is played through the fantastic flextone 3 line 6 amp. I bought this monster about 6 years back and it is just the dogs bollox
I hope you dig this more laid back groove..
Cheers, Slap...

I really like the saxophone's sound a lot. This is a real jam track. It sounds like from Superfly's time zone. Incidentally you make awesome loops and I have used a few. Thanks for sharig your talent with those of us not fortunate to have any. Vic
Hey Slap...I was at the Melbourne Zoo (which is also a fantastic facility) with my sister and her kids, anyway we're in front of the monkey enclosure (one of them) and my young nephew asks "what are they doing"..I promptly reply 'Shagging'..he turns to me and in all seriousness asks "what's shagging?"..I turn to my sister and say "lets go look at the Elephants, that's a safer bet" lol
Man your really hitting your straps now, this sounds great!.such a rich sonic experience and the fx's are way cool..superb playing..that's really a byword in any of your material.
cheers Dave :)
Wonderful piece. I find it hard to find something that can be improved when I like, but I'll try. The only thing I find something out is low. There are times when it seems that the bass walk backwards, while the rest of the music tries to move forward.
Hi Vicen, I think I have isolated this bass issue as a drum and bass cross rhythm which changes the feel of the track in places. It was intentional to create this as it generates interest and movement. You have good ears my friend, most important in this game..
Hi CW, I'm glad your nodding along! I use the same method of the nod when checking out tracks. If I find myself nodding along I'm feeling the groove.. I also use the finger and foot tap approach lol...
Thanks for dropping by and showing your support..

Quite an inspiring track! I really like that bass line, though maybe it could use a little more low end. All those horns are awesome, and are really well played! The flute solo rules! Explosive dynamics on the mix! Really fine work my friend!
Hi SpivKurl, I have tweaked the bass now. In logic you have a sub bass plug in which I think has added the required extra bottom that was needed. I thank you for your honest input in helping this track grow.
One of the most amazing gigs I ever did was the Main Gate at the Phoenix, Arizona zoo with a West African Drum and Dance troupe called africatamtam. We did a 90 minute set, and by the end there were over 30 toddlers shaking nappy covered bums to it.
I have to agree with Toby's review. There's a "Bungle in the Jungle" homage here that's totally in the Spirit of, but not approach. It's not the flute, either. Very cool.
I couldn't get through the whole thing, and by that I mean every ten seconds or so, I'd back up because there was something I just had to hear again.. On the third pass I was able to just take it all in. There were a few instances where the bass line seemed to be slightly off cue. to be specific at @:58 to 1:08 the bass seems a few milliseconds early to the Percussion's groove, and it falls back in groove seamlessly at 1:08. same at 3:01, and at 3:37 back in perfect swing. Also at that point there seems to be a homage to Jethro Tull without borrowing a single note or phrase, and that is something That I've only heard Charlie Parker do.
Hi Toby, thanks for pointing that out! I will get in deep and amend this bass/drum mismatch. It could be a frequency class with the baritone sax ( which I am also investigating ).
Thank your honesty, as I said these songs need to be awesome and the only way to achieve this is by listening to others and tweaking accordingly.

Description : 'Love will find you at the right time'...This track is about how we vibrationally attract love. From my recollection, in the early 20s/teen years, a typical place to encounter this wonderful force was the Disco. (Kay)

Description : Continuing my journey with sampling. This was mostly an accident, and not where I originally thought it would go but I'm happy with the destination. I started with the track Real Reel Switcher by Eunice Russ Frost, which has a slower melancholy swing to it, however I've been playing a bunch of older video games lately, with SSX being in the mix heavily, so this track ended up taking on a bit of that for inspiration as well. Would love your thoughts.

Description : A Dark Funk tune , with a touch of Nawlin's jazz funeral procession. Midi-sparks asked me to do a Halloween song for his competition, and so here it is!
Description : Updated 12/2/2022. This is an interesting redo of a funky and fun composition. I gave it more polish by switching to a different drum kit, swapped the flute solo for a synth, then infused more flavor into the guitars, bass and organ. Then lastly tweaking the final master. Can you tell the difference? Let me know. Enjoy.
