Well, you are introducing me to all sorts of songs that I've never heard before! Very nice. Recording quality on this acapella seemed better to me. I'm doing to download it and see if I can work on it a bit.
This was just great! I was smiling all the way through!
I actually remember the original version of this song. I know that Dion re-did it in 1961, but I've just listened to the Elegants' 1958 version and his version and I definitely recognize the original. Somewhat surprising because I was only 11 years old when it was released and lived half-way up the British Columbia coast toward Alaska in a town where there was no radio or tv. But, there were records so somebody (definitely not my parents) must have had it.
Just wanted to say that I am enjoying your acapellas. Thanks for posting them here on Looperman. Obviously, they are pretty unique. Not the standard fare for this place, but very, very nice. Great harmonies. Your vocals are excellent.
I do think the quality of the recordings leaves a lot to be desired. Seems to be distortion in the ones I've heard so far, which is unfortunate. The waveform display doesn't look like they are clipping at max, so I'm not sure why I'm hearing the distortion.
Not sure what I might be able to do with the acapellas that you have posted (thanks for allowing downloads by the way), but I'm making a note of your profile page so that I can find them again in case the muse strikes me. Looperman doesn't have a feature that allows us to "follow" other members, so this is how I'll keep track of stuff that you post. :)
Thanks for the kind words, Eric. Yeah, my recording software leaves much to be desired but I'm really a LIVE performer rather than a recording one. Doing most of it for my own fun. So glad you like the harmonies. That has always been my gift. 50+ yrs entertaining. Again, thanks.
I have checked out many of the links posted in comments, where people have used your pellas. I am astounded at how few of them credited you as the vocalist. Regardless of the legality, that's just not cool. I think it is disrespectful. You make really good music. That should be acknowledged when somebody features your work in their own track.
Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed listening to this acapella, ThaSuspect. Loved the melody and the harmonies. I think it might be "gilding the lily" to add an instrumental backing track on this. It just sounds so good on its own. :)
Thanks for sharing all the acapellas with us. It was very generous. I've been having a lot of fun working up a remix of Box Room. I’ve listened to all the remixes that have been posted so far on Looperman and it is really interesting to hear how different people have re-interpreted the song you wrote. It's great that you have provided some constructive feedback and advice to Looperman members.
Anyway, I just started working with this track and it kind of took a different direction. Not sure that you and your band-mates would like it. Definitely changed the character of the song. I’ve watched your videos on Youtube. How to Loot Brazil is much more inventive musically than I am.
I found it quite challenging to work up the chord progression for this remix. I think I’ve also got a couple of key changes in there somehow, not really sure. And, I think I have some irregular metre as well. All works out OK in the end, though.
Would have been interesting to hear how it sounded in its original form on your acoustic guitar!
Hi, Farisha. Just wanted to say, and I am sure I speak for many many members here at Looperman, that we've missed you. It's great to have you back and you've uploaded so many new acapellas that it's like winning the lottery! :) Your pellas are so good, it makes us try that much harder to produce something really worthy. At least, that's the way I feel. Thanks again.
Nice use of vocoder, Steelyvibe. I've downloaded this to so what I can do with it. Its got the kind of sound I really like. Thanks for taking the time to make it available to us.
Really good acapella, Noemi. You have a really good voice and you stay on pitch, which is great. Thanks for uploading this to Looperman. I've had a bad dry spell making music for the last month or more. I think this just might be the thing to get me inspired again! :)
Angel: I've recently recognized that most Looperman members download acapellas but never leave comments on them. Not the same for tracks that are uploaded. there, comments are commonplace. I think that's not right. I've downloaded this acapella, but I also want to tell you that it sounds great and I can see that it could definitely be something that I could use in a track. Thanks for taking the time to record and upload it.
I know you haven't been on Looperman for a while, but I hope you'll be able to listen to what I've done with your stuff. i took your advice on how to modulate from the key of the first acapella to key of the second one, although I might have gone a bit deeper into the pool than you had recommended. :)
Jacques: I do understand that it would be discouraging to get so many downloads and only a few comments. if other members are reading this comment, please keep in mind that if we want to have access to really good material we do need to at least provide some acknowledgment and, preferably, feedback to the members who upload the acapellas and loops.
Jacques, I really liked your analogy of creating a bridge (sur le pont, d'avignon) to get from one side of la riviere to l'autre rive. But, particularly I appreciated your advice that it is a danger to go too deep. I think I've gone too deep in the bridge that I created, so I'm going to take your advice and re-work it. Merci pour the advice.
Jacques, I am curious about this acapella and the "don't keep your love away" acapella that sound like they were done by the same singer. The harmonies are similar, but the keys are different.
Were they recorded to be included in the same song? I am interested to know because I'm working on a track that does include both and I've worked out an instrumental passage to modulate from one key to the other. But, that's kind of unusual.
Chilli Gonzales worked out a progression that did the same kind of thing (better of course) on one of the songs in the latest Daft Punk Album. There's a Youtube video of him explaining it. I was wondering if you were doing the same thing when you used these acapellas in your music?
exactly eric , same women, the wife of the ingenering sound mixer for the locals FINKEL and FINKEL DEMERS PRODUCTION in my studio OF PRE-PRODUCTION , PICOLO AND VICTORS WERE THE 2 STUDIOS THAN WE USED, THE FIRST COME FROM A SONG NAME LOVE IS A WAVE , YOU UNDERSTAND THIS FEELING THAN I WANTED CREATE A NUMBER FIVE ON THE CHART, I USED THE SAME BACK FOR AN OTHER OF MY SONG MY LOVE IS CALLING,HER ON THE TRACK 5 SONGS FROM THE PAST TO NOW NUMBER 2 , BUT JUST THE OU OUS. Hey, Sleeplesssirens! If you download and use an acapella from Looperman, please post your track on Looperman. We'd all be really interested in hearing it. Don't keep it a secret! :)
You have a beautiful voice. Thanks for uploading this. Next time, I'd suggest using less (or no) reverb on your acapella so that we can situate the vocal properly in the mix and add effects, as appropriate.
I've downloaded several of your other acapellas. I tend to have the pellas inspire the tracks, not the other way around, so I'm looking forward to spending many evenings working with them on new stuff. Thanks for taking the time and making the effort to provide them to us.
Shamoozey, i have finally posted a track using your "Farewell to Nova Scotia" acapella. Thanks so much for making it. I'm hoping that other Looperman members will pick up the track and use it somehow, or perhaps download your original acapella and work with that.
I hope you enjoy the "back-story" that I posted with the track. It is somewhat more far-fetched than the St. Agatha's concert yarn. I think we should have a contest to see who can count all the historical inaccuracies! The winner could get a custom acapella made by you! :)
KnownKontrol: I have just posted a track that uses bits and pieces from three of your recent acapellas. (I’m posting this comment under each of them in case you miss it by accident.) You've got a great voice and delivery as far as I’m concerned and its really fun to work with it. I hope you like what I’ve done and won’t be upset that I’ve only used portions of the acapellas. The track also includes pieces of acapellas from Monkeymanmusic and Iancoleen, both from Germany. I think that international collaboration is one of the coolest things that Looperman makes possible. That wasn’t my objective, though. I just went looking for acapellas that would inspire me to put together a track. The pellas came first, the instrumental backing tracks emerged from them. Not the other way around.
You will notice that, almost completely buried in the sound near the beginning of the track, you can be heard singing, “Take the good stuff”. For about a week, as I was working on the track, I had that audio segment put to the side because I didn’t know how or where it would fit in. I thought you were singing about only taking good drugs, not bad ones. Then, for some reason, I realized you were telling us to take the “good” pieces of your acapella track. Felt kind of foolish but, but that broke my mental logjam and I decided that it needed to go close to the beginning before all the other bits and pieces of acapellas from you and Ian Coleen came into play.
So, I hope you like it. Thanks for posting so much great stuff. Please keep it up. It is very much appreciated.

yeah someone asked me to do random hums and singing and stuff. So this was just random stuff thrown on a track so that they could pull what ever it is they wanted. It was truly just me sitting infront of the mic and messing around... the "I need a puff of the good stuff" I knew it sounded like a drug reffrence... but what it really was is I smoke an electronic ciggarette. I had not taken a puff off my e-cig in awhile.. so mid track thats what I did... took a puff of the good stuff. :D and let people go on to think what ever they wanted to think that meant.
The track is pretty cool do you post on soundcloud? I normaly repost everything... yeah everyone being able to work with folk from all over the world is cool... this and soundcloud have cause me to work with folk from like everywhere,, germany, greese spain africa, sweden, france, england, russia. its very very cool.
Ian: I have just posted a track using parts of your “Mother Superior” acapella. I had my son-in-law, who lives in Scotland, but comes from Lippstadt, translate it for me, although I must admit that I didn’t use it for the meaning of the words. I just just thought it sounded so good I simply had to find a home for it someplace in the track. Your stuff is very prominent, but I’ve also included portions of acapellas from Monkeymanmusic and KnowKontrol. I hope you won’t be upset that I’ve taken your work out of context or combined it with other things in ways that don’t make sense lyrically. I think they do work together musically. And, I really like the stuff you have posted. Looking forward to more! :)
Very nice, Shamoozey! Always great to hear an Irish tenor sing a Scot's song! :)
If you have time might want to check out the latest track I posted. I know you'll understand when I say that it is entirely in the spirit of your live recording from St. Agatha's Parish Hall. Wasn't sure if I should post to tracks or acapellas, actually because I think it should really be used by somebody in a remix.
Stan Rogers did the original version (he wrote it), but my favourite is the version by the Irish Descendants. I like the harmonies in the chorus better. I don't think they compete with the melody line as much.
Thanks, Shamoozey! Sounds great! You did the whole song! That was really quick!
Please also check out "The Last of Barrett's Privateers". It is a favourite sung by the (somewhat inebriated) crowds in Halifax pubs. I think you'll really like it and do a great job on it.
Hiya Eric, i surprised i not familiar with this one, being a pub song n all. Will have to learn it and hopefully render some form!! Been listening to it on Youtube by ur national folk singer and its a mighty song! Cheers, eh?
