I like it. And if it's for your wife, then just give the lyrics a try man, even just as spoken word. Makes it more personal - and some of us have a voice like Bob Dylan, just accept it :)
Regarding the Afro sound, I think you can dial back the synths a bit and make them a bit more crisp (maybe a bit less reverb of effect), that might give them that West African sound. Good luck, I like it!
