hi, really good chill vibes, kind of tribal and funky. Nice production. I like the drumming. Very laidback background warm e piano chords. I preffer it to the solo lines and wet funky synths even. But still it is so good and really relaxing although there's nothing really happening in your song! nice use of ferryterry's sax. I used this sample in one of my song: https://www.looperman.com/tracks/detail/160429 I create songs that could be labeled mostly as being a kind of a jazz/chillout genre as well so you might check out others of mine if only you will have just some a little time and simply want to. I use lots of jazz loops like this but mostly my music is improvised.
Anyway great chillout track here and very nice keyboard playing - I like it a lot! Alex
Thanks for your review man. Nice to see you liked the drums and chords. To be honest, I would love to make a track just like that, drums, bass and rhodes, nothing more, for about 10 minutes. But I am sure that would ask a lot from the imagination of the listeners :-). Most of the times, when I am working on a new track, I will just play 8-16 of it in a loop and listen to it for two hours. And somehow it never bores me. Also gives me a the opportunity to really feel what's going on. After that, finishing the track is childs play.
I agree that nothing really is happening in the track. That gave me the idea for the title :-).
I like this! The drums have a hip hop flavor on it then it leads into those beautiful atmospheric sounds which takes me to another planet. Great work and thanks for the wonderful journey!
Mate very good example of chill out music, love the way you have used the vocals in this mix, first track reviewed today so far, and what a great way to start off doing reviews, can not fault in anyway mate, totally loving the laid back vibe from the piece, fav'd...Peace n much Respect...Mosaic...
Nice track solid bounce, improve huuuum not much needed here...
Well maybe a well placed guitar, down on the bottom dancing along
with the Bass or keys at times...
Be fun to try something, just a complimenting syncopation...
Thanks TG for your comment and please accept my apologies for not replying earlier.
Thanks for the tip on the guitar. I had actually thought of the same while producing the track. The issue is that I was not able to find one that perfectly fitted (to my taste that is). Actually, don't know if you play the guitar, but you would be most welcome to try something. Let me know if you're interested in doing so.
Very smooth!
I fell into this one fast...one of those ones that doesn't have to end...a very comfortable groove that just holds ya.
Very nice musically.
You ask about things you could do to make this better and i can't really think of much. I was thinkin maybe a bit of 'air' in the mastering to seperate things a bit but the more I listen to it it doesn't even really need that.
First track of yours I've heard here and an Easy Fave
KUDOS
Thanks a lot for your review BT! I am 3 months late with my reply, and I am sorry for that.
The groove is indeed what I liked best about this track myself. I was lucky I found the right kicks and snares I guess. I do agree on your comment on the mix. Actually, I had not listened to the mp3 export before, just uploaded it. It does take away just a little bit of the crispness. But I think it is the bass that makes it just a bit too full and gelly. Well observed! I'll see if I can eq it enough to make some more room.
Well done on this one Doc! There is a cool, funky, smooth, acid jazz feel to this. I am a big fan of percussion, the bongos are a nice touch. The sax sample was a great addition. Liked the keys, I can hear a few different ones, all classic sounds. I think the mix sounds great but I'm only on my second cup of coffee. ;)
Can't really find anything to suggest or find wrong with the track, sounds like a keeper to me. Great job Doc!
Thanks for listening Wayne! You have a great ear. I indeed used two different Rhodes for the chords and the solo. Chords are more spread for atmo and the solo is more centered with tremolo. Well spot!
Let me know if you hear some room for improvement pon the mix after you 10th cup of coffee :-). Always willing to learn.
This is stunning...jazzy, atmospherical, feelgood chill out with huge play on the piano...the sax solo is outstanding as usual from the 'ferryterry group' :-)
Your mix is more than excellent, this is top production in every level...Wanted to suggest some guitars into it but after the 3rd listen, I had review my idea...there is no place for that instrument...
Magical 5.33
Hats off, respect, Danke
If the ferryterry group would set up a fan club, I'd be their first member for sure. Always great quality samples and recording. Very easy to work with and it makes my life simple.
Funny, I also played with the idea of adding guitars, but came to the same conclusion. I did however send the track to a singer friend of mine and asked for her contribution. I think the track still has room enough for vocals, or room is easilly created.
Agree with Mosaic, this is very nice chillout. Like how nature sounding it is. The synths are a nice touch..if you like anything chill, then I would recommend a artist named Phaeleh. (The synths kind of remind me of some of his tracks.) He's got some real gold material in chillout. Just a suggestion though, nice grooving track here though Drvan. Excellent work. peace
Also to you many thanks for listening. I think the natural sound really is the result of Caroll's vocals here. They are warm/deep and clear at the same. I really wish she would upload new acapella's on a daily basis :-).
As for Phaeleh, I have not heard of him before. I will try and find some right now. Thanks for sharing this.
Very nice intro here, sort of gets you into the feel and groove of the track right from hitting play, very good clarity of the mix, you have used the vocals well in this, nice synths and strings, working nicely with the clap beat...very enjoyable listen...Fav...Peace n Respect...Mosaic...
Many thanks for listening and dropping a comment! Although the track is almost 2 years old now, it's still great to see that it is listened to :-).
The track was done in an inspiring period in my life, hence the intro. Nowadays, I only seem to be able to make intro's out of the basics of the track if you know what I mean. The vocal of Caroll actually are the main part of this track I think, they make it worth listening to.
Very impressive work man, chilled house track feel about, great beat and claves, Rhode piano is great, vocals work excellent to give the chill out feeling to the piece something you would hear in a café while grabbing a coffee, everything sounds so smooth and in place...totally loving this one matey...Fav...Peace n Respect...Mosaic...
Sorry, I just saw your comment just now. Thanks for listening again of course.
I do love the Rhodes indeed. Using them almost guarantees a nice warm and smooth atmosphere in any track. you described the curcomstances to hear the track quite well. That's how it is intended (a café or a beach club :-)).
Very, Very Nice Work...Tasteful Flavours with lots of style, try to think
who that voice sounds like....It will come to me, as soon as I stop thinking
about it...
Must say this track is top shelf and well put together....
You might think of Tom Waits maybe. The same kind of by whiskey affected low pitched voice. Again, I love Shamoozey's acpella's, even more so when he is speaking. It is so full of soul and experience. i might say that my track adds to the vocals, not the other way around.
Many thanks for listening. Actually the beat was the easiest part of this track. It is not more than a deep kick and a reverbed snare indeed. Some parts a bit addition from delayed shakers and the percussion. However, the percussion it also just one 32 beats loop (I am getting a bit lazy :)).
And yes, the acpella. Shamoozey is amazing isn't he. So atmospheric. Just added some reverb and a stereo delay. That's all.
The hardest part for was to align the different synths to support the melody but not to overdo it, so no synth with the same notes at the same time too much.
Anyway, thanks for your great comments, motivates me for the next track again.
So very good to find some music on the Loop that has been thought about and crafted. Love the way you have put this together. It shows great skill and an educated ear. It's a great atmospheric and track and the groove with the piano is just lovely. Great job.
Many thanks for listening and your nice comments. IIt means a lot coming from someone who just uploaded a great track!
I am not sure if I've got great skill, but I do have an educated ear (had a classical musical education and that helps a bit :-)). It was a lot of fun working on this track.
Another great track. I thought the vocals worked really well. I guess it is all a matter of taste, but I think your have some of the best stuff I've heard on Looperman. Your sound is so rich and warm. I can't actually think of the right words for it. Just beautifully done.
WOW! A fantastic track! I loved the way it built up energy. I'm quite envious of your musicality. This is really great work. Looperman is such a fantastic place to find really inspiring music. Thanks for making this.
Just had to post one last time this evening before I go to bed.
I've been playing your track non-stop for the last 3 hours. Brought it into Logic and have been having so much fun playing along with it, adding brass, more strings, lead synths, etc. Everything I try actually detracts from it, instead of adding to it. The more I play the track, the more I realize how beautifully crafted it is. It is gorgeous, like a finely woven tapestry.
Thanks again Eric for the addition (and please accept my apologies for not having responded any sooner). The fact that you realize there's not a lot to add, makes me think that the track is almost finished. On the other hand, if you feel the urge to play around with it, it indicates to me that something's still missing... Just read your PM and will answer this now.
Doc: OK. This track is far better than I could create, but I am going to offer some very respectful suggestions. I realize that critiques of this type are very rare on Looperman, so I hope this doesn't make me into a a "baddie". I'm doing this because I liked your track very very much and it left me wanting for more.
So, first of all, I loved the instrumental track. It was, in my view, exceptionally good. It could stand on it own a a really fine piece of music. However, I didn't feel that KnowKontrol's acapellas fit very well in your composition. That's not a criticism of his vocals, which I think are excellent. He knows I feel this way about his stuff. I've used them, and valued them, myself in a recent track. It's just that, to my ears, they didn't really "jell" in your composition. I think the the piece would have been stronger without them, frankly.
So, I'd urge you to post a version of the same track without the vocals. I'm serious about this. I'd love to have that in my playlist. I'm being a bit selfish in suggesting that because all the time I was listening to it, my mind was playing around with ideas for a melody line. This track has great potential.
Hope you aren't offended by my comments or suggestions. I wish I'd composed this track. I'd be quite pleased with myself if I had. :)
Thanks for your comments Eric. I highly appreciate the time and effort you have put in listening to and commenting on the track. Don;t worry about being a baddie :-). I always appreciate feedback, positive as well as negative. This is for me the most important way to learn and get better in doing what i love so much.
About the vocals, this has been my first track that has received so many opposite views on such a specific part of the track. Some people (like you) would suggest to leave the vocals out, some love them in this context. I am more than happy to share an instrumental version only with through my SoundCloud account. No problem at all.
And don't worry I don't get offended that easlity anymore nowadays :-).
Many thanks for your great compliments! And sorry for the delay in the answer :-).
As far as the mixing is concerned, I just try to listen to differences I make in the settings and try to understand why things sound different. With every little improvement, the quality gets just a little bit better. So, babysteps here

Wow the atmosphere is sooo damn perfect.
The piano melody is immense pleasure.
Synths used are very perfect and takes the track to another level.
The reverbed Beats are very well programmed.

Track is produced and mastered very awesomely.
