There is not anything wrong with the content. For me it is just the compression is over cooked by modern standards. Controlled aggression is the way forwards for your content to shine allowing the dynamics to breathe a little.
We've all got one lurking somewhere right? Feeling this one for sure reminds me of someone I know who has been present in everything musical since I was a teenager. Nothing I have listened to here has provoked so much emotion and bittersweet memories in under 5 minutes. A truly class job. That's going in my personal music collection right now. :-)
This encouraged me to go back to my entry and try a lot harder. The piano pitch up was a very clever move but if everyone then went and did it we'd be accused of plagiarising :)
Was that like four weeks twenty four seven? For a first track using a DAW as complicated as Ableton you should be very proud of the result. What you have achieved here is a song that is very pleasant to listen to. The mix is very well balanced. Looking forward to hearing more from you. :)
Cheers fixxxer. Erm, yes, just about lol. I am retired after having had a stroke that left me with no short term memory so lots of time to mess about and try to get things right. I think I do about 8 hrs a day if I don't get too tired or my brain don't hurt lol. It will take me a while to learn it though because the day after I will have forgotten most of what I learned the day before lol.
Interesting that the stuff we make when we're pissed off has the opposite effect when we listen to it back. The bad mood is definitely evident in the piano part but the rest of the elements counter it and do the opposite. Left me pretty chilled at the end like a horlicks moment. So this is getting faved for stressful days. Class job :)
Kill it? You OWN the song. Flawless delivery very nicely controlled. In a word moving and that has to be the goal with music, to elicit an emotional response. That's a favourite from me :)

There is nothing wrong with the song. It's a very clever arrangement that will work well for commercial pop. Where the cookie crumbles is in the mixing with some levels slightly overcooked. I know the pain in your heart reading this but with a little bit of polish this one can shine. That awesome beat on the hook is dull sounding. Bring that into line with the rest I suspect by pulling back on a fader or two. That's all it is a couple of faders up too high you'll get the vibrancy back and the kick drum will kick not thud. That's what you're listening for. Sidechain the bass very slightly so it wraps around the beat better. Leave the vocal as is.. that's nailed as it stands. Remember this is just my opinion of what I would do with it. My early mixing sucked and I got a lot of helpful advice from other members how to improve it. An honest comment is worth a thousand giving lip service. You can't polish a turd but you can make a decent pop song shine all the ingredients are there for this to be a winner.
Hey no all the advice is much appreciated! This song is different in particular in that I did not engineer it at all. I can get the files for it though. Could you help me tweak things? I'd really appreciate it
I get where you're going with this one and that kick is a central theme of the track. Just needs to blend in a bit better with the rest of the instruments. I use very pronounced kicks myself and on a few of my own tracks with hindsight I've fallen into the trap of way overcooking the thump from the kick. EQ wise there isn't much wrong IMO. I think the answer comes down to levels in the mix. Whatever you do.. don't give up and bin it. This is a great piece and with a little polishing it will shine. :-)
That little blast of the acid synth right at the end is a class touch. Certainly getting the movement thing. This is very busy the whole way through. Kind of track to break the daily grind and make you drive a little faster than you're supposed to. Not that I am encouraging anyone to break the law - wicked grin ;-)
Thanks man, that acid blast was actually an accident with the way software interacts sometimes and i thought it was cool so i left it in. Thanks for your kind comment, I hope my music doesn't inspire anyone to break the law but i'm glad it makes you feel like doing it 3:D ... Stay tuned for more tracks soon
Why on earth would you pull this down from being on sale? I must admit it was clever titling in the forum that caught my attention and curiosity. But the music speaks for itself a lot louder here. Just from this one track listening to the rest of the disc is a no brainer. Has to be done. :-)
Thank you :) It was a shame to take my releases down, but my CdBaby acct was hacked and my music sales were being funneled to another country. Because of the particular country that hacked me the police, and fbi would not help me....they pretty much destroyed my business. Now I am starting over, I had 6 full Cd releases for sale at one point.
Sinister is the word for the bass. Nice low rumbling business that you feel as well as hear. Loving the kick and snare build up. Sometimes simplicity is very effective. I think this would work well in the chill out lounge after a drum and bass evening when people are winding down.
Some might argue that it is missing something in the beat department. But my thoughts are that it works very well as is.
I really don't know why but the construction and delivery of the lyrics reminded me a little of Lily Allen. I'm the random one by the way. Chilled out and relaxing just what I needed as I feel quite rough at the moment. Glad I stopped by for a listen.
Got my head nodding along here. Very chilled out vibe and you follow the story with a knowing smile. Tight production with very nice wrap around effects in the headphones. Clearly a lot of thought and attention to detail has gone into producing this tune so that we can just kick back and relax listening.
The bass really reminds me of The Beatles for a some curious reason. Nice feel to this one. Loving the percussion. A real feel good tune just the right amount of reverb on the vocal. Job is a good un IMO :)
Class in a word.. love the way the vocal is chopped up. This could very well land up as a classic. Encapsulating a moment in time. Was chuckling the whole way through. It was the repeat of dude unplug this.. that got me.
Made my sub rumble like thunder sending a shock wave through the floor. Already in my favourites with that first rumble. I make no secret of the fact I've always liked the way your flow sounds. There is just that special something in the way your vocals come across. The backing always has to be hard and nasty in some way to echo the anger that simply oozes out. You've got that fire in your eyes and when you pick up a microphone the result is always compelling and electric. Because unlike a lot of other rappers what sets you apart in my opinion is that you've always got something intelligent to say.
I had no idea this track review even existed! Thanks so much for the in depth review and feedback, i was very happy to receive this (all be it a little late!!)
very much appreciated man. thank you
That's officially a record.. favourited within 30 seconds. What an opening. The bass is awesome meaty and deep just the way I like it. In my opinion this is going to be timeless. Your sister must be over the moon that she inspired this. Production is tight. What more could you want from a pop song. Class job.
Really feeling this one it's such a raw and haunting piece. I'm no stranger to relationship failure and the playing brought back a lot of feelings that I thought I had long passed. That's the beauty of a good song tho. Sometimes it's ok to hurt as much as you did before when you hear something that evokes feeling. There's passion and pain in that lead fighting with each other. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I've been to that place too and I like this song a lot.
I like the breaks the way this song constantly evolves around you. I love the playing with distortion.. just enough of a clip to push stuff to the edge of the limit. It gets just to that point where you think it's going to hurt then pulls back. The whole piece has a consistent flow to it. You expect a change of direction when the breaks come and you're not disappointed. I agree with most that have already reviewed this track. It does leave you wanting more in a very good way.
This is a number one in anyone's book. Loving when the bass kicks in. Gives a good solid foundation. The strings are pulling my heart in all different directions. I can feel the pain of being alone in the vocal. Production is top notch. Once this gets some radio airplay only a complete fool would bet against it.
