First! Not even two seconds in, you have already got my head bobbin. I will definitely agree that you have a bit of epic vibe going on here. I like your switches that add the woodwinds.
Second. Love the guitars, your buildups between instrument changes are fantastic! This song definitely did not feel like 9 minutes...excuse me...almost 10 minutes! You have managed to keep a steady feel throughout while varying the beat and instruments just enough to destroy any chance that a listener would have any feeling of monotony.
Your drums are solid and "introduce" each section nicely.
You're doing well if your head's bobbing by two seconds in as I didn't think that Rhodes part was particularly groovy. But I think it is a few seconds later when the bass and drums arrive.
Not sure what you mean by "switches that add the woodwinds" as there aren't any woodwinds in here though there are strings (especially violin) so maybe that's what you mean. I can't really tell.
Glad you liked the guitars. Not so much guitar in this for me though I have also done a good few pure electro tracks over the years ie no played acoustic instruments, just pure synth work.
While some people do complain about the lengths of my tracks (something I'm consciously working hard to improve), quite a few have said something similar to you ie that they don't always feel the track lasts the actual running time. Probably because there's always so much going on and no time to get bored before something else arrives and other things disappear.
Yes, I think the steady feel throughout comes from the use of the drum loops (and mostly the same synth bass sound). While I use loads of drum loops, there's a real focus on just a few, especially the first one heard in the track.
It's my great yet difficult aim to never induce a sense of monotony in the listener. Saying that, it's important to use good sounds and sections enough as sometimes it's annoying when something's good but not repeated enough.
This kept me guessing. It is something that I wouldn't have thought of, very excellent! Your use of the pitch bending pianos is brilliant! Way to rock it. One more thing. You kept on bringing in energy like a car climbing RPM's. Well done!
Seeing comments like yours keeps me going man! I love the encouragement and words! I had a lot of fun on this track! If you haven't already, check out the original's too! :)
Very serene. very well balanced. and very well produced. I know you mentioned that there were a lot of sounds in there, but, it sounds beautifully simple which is the the hardest part for me. Everything in your song matches. I like the crescendo in the beginning opening into the drums. Very nice arrangement.
I have always figured there is something magical about a well played guitar. And this piece absolutely embraces that feeling. I really dig the transitions into different kinds of styles while managing to keep the same feel throughout. I would have to say I really dig the funk parts.
My only point that I would say sounded clashing was the delay you had on the drums at about the 1 minute mark.
All in all, great this is a great listen. Love the guitars!
Given the title and track comments and after listening to this I must remind myself to keep my judgement in check until after I had to chance to listen. Not to mirror StaticNomads post too much, your use of synths, bells, and glissando type effects really put the "secret" into this song. It is dark, edgy, and has a nice groove to it. I think that your layering and chosen instrumentation is spot on. I can make out every part, every chord progression, etc without straining to hear. I would also work on the ending.
Sickness...Pure unadulterated badassedness, describes this perfectly. Your transitions to different guitar riffs is as only as subtle as they need to be. Drum kits compliment the different riffs as do the rhythms that move them along. I thought I heard some clipping in the first guitar part, but I think that was just my brain rattling loose! The mix is intense and in my humble opinion stellar, loud then softer, then loud, then LOUDER! However, throughout the song your intensity never drops. This is, as you said epic! Fan-friggen-tastic!!!!
Yo. Yes, I don't like to adulterate an ass when it's bad. Got to keep it pure.
More seriously, you could say I've adulterated it in one sense because I have quite a lot of clean, undistorted guitar parts that are sometimes on top of the more evil, distorted ones. Not many heavy (eg metal) bands would do that so I think it gives it an off feel and strange texture here.
And that's why the mix goes up and down - because of the more chilled out elements that I like to sometimes present in a more chilled out way. Id di want to make this get bigger, fatter and better and I think I managed that around 6 mins with the heaviest riffs I brought in. And I've got two metal drum kits both banging away playing identical parts. And a mix of basslines (bass guitar and synth sub bass) so a thick layering of badassery.
Yes, you did hear some clipping in the first guitar part. I played a clean sound but had it up too loud so it clips and gives it a hard edged sound. It's worst at 4:43 for that whole section, which is why I put the rumbling, walking bass guitar part in the forefront.
Should probably have replayed that clipped guitar part but the playing was great and I couldn't remember how to play it.
It wasn't easy to take the sections down but also keep up the intensity. Having so many layers makes it a bit more intense and the breaks work well to give the listener a bit of a rest. Could have made this one so much longer (it used to be a 17 min track) but I showed a lot of restraint there.
Might go back and lengthen some bits as there are still some problems in this that need fixing especially the last 30 secs, which just don't work as well as they should.
Good to hear from you, as I seem to do every few months.
I found your use of the lead interesting. It definitely sets it apart. Your break at 4.40 leading into the outro was good as well. Overall very enjoyable, and you made it standout with the lead sound.
I can definitively appreciate simplicity in music, as they are the melodies that we remember.
First and foremost I believe you have captured a very thoughtful sound, one that is very good. I enjoyed every minute (all three of them) of this song, yes it was simple, but it was also well defined and you kept working around that elegant melody. If this is your first song, I cannot wait to hear what you have in store for us later! Great track thanks for sharing! If I had to make one suggestion, it would be too check out some of the tutorials around the net on tweaking sound, they have helped me to learn to adjust my methods for the better, in particular the strings. as they are difficult for me.
There are so many parts I can hear that drive this song. From your usage of piano, oboe, and tremolo strings, everything is brilliantly composed! I also appreciate your use of dynamics throughout as it ads to the splendor of this song. There is not much more that I can say that has not been said already, but I will agree that this song is a testament to an extremely talented musician. Thank you for sharing this wonderful piece!
Doug , true & skillfull recognition of yours regarding various sound colours (instruments)in this trial(track) of mine + also all 3 proffesional traX which I've been able ( according to time) to listen so far from your many traX, makes me really glad because of reading this possitive idea of a throughbred & knowledgeable musician, about a piece which has an exclusive subjective value & depth for me. thank U very much for your precense , worthy attention, and kind & interesting commenT for this musical trial of mine, great appreciations & and best wishes to U. sincerely____Behnam
Love the upbeat vibe and the guitars, everything sounds very mixed well. I like how you used the guitar to drive the rhythm. Great track! Thank you for sharing!
Great track! The synth work is very effective in keeping non-repetive, which this is definitely not. The vocals were nicely edited as well. To just add to the overall sonic awesomeness of this track, it is catchy! Thanks for sharing.
In a conference room?! That is dedication, and it shows in this track. Your lyrics and cadence fit the mood of your instrumentals, laid back & definitely chill. I enjoyed your layering of the lyrics and vocal patterns. This is great track! I can't wait to hear more! Thanks for sharing.
Awesome track. I really dig your use of different string variations. And the reverse sample fit nicely to give it a modern feel. Thank you for sharing.
I found this very enjoyable. The atmospheric background is serene and the guitar leads speak to the tone. Your drum breaks definitely add excitement. This song has just an overall great sound.
deat Doug , Hello & I'm glad to see your possitive idea about this trial ( track ) of mine . thank U very much for presence ,throughbred & carefull analysis and worthwhile attention & commenT . greatest appreciations & respects .________Behnam
I like the beat, the sound works for the atmosphere. I have to agree with the previous poster, some times the transition does get lost, I think everyone has those issues, best luck on the completion! But, this track definitely has that tribal beat, and a good one at that.
You have a particular knack for remixing/reworking. Everything I have heard including/especially this one gives a new energy to those older songs. Great job, I would like to hear this finished.
I do seem to have a knack for the remixing/reworking style. I really love 007 and Mission Impossible. They are my favorites.
It is taking a little while to finish this song as I have several projects in the making. But I am working on them at the same time-ish lol. I just do a little here and a little there. I will definitely upload the final project soon.
I have always enjoyed when people bridge genres that don't at first make sense, but end up sounding awesome...as in the case of this track. Two words can describe this...friggen excellent! This was very enjoyable to listen to your sounds were exceptional, there were many layers and they all built on each other to give some serious depth to your song. Thank you for sharing.
Nice keyboards and I really dig your use of percussion. Your sounds mesh really well and every part is easy to hear. I also like the way you incorporate different sounds, synths bells etc. Great track, I hope you do more with it.
