Music has always been such a big part of my life (like most of us on this site, I'm sure)
I've sung in a number of bands over the years but have only recently found the amazing experience of mixing loops into songs.
I've been having a lot of fun with it and want to continue while learning more from this community.
I'm considering forming a new band to play out with (here in Bangkok) but first to see if the companionship will lead to more inspiration (specifically lyric-wise).
I wish I could say I play something beyond the tambourine. :)
Oh yeh! The maracas. ;)
I sing quite a bit and add my own virtual piano and percussion - I stack loops.
ACID Music Studio 8.0
Samson G Track studio mic, Sennheiser phones, my laptop.
At the moment, I'm stuck on replay with Maynard's bands, a fair amount of classical (piano concertos and violin + Segovia) and of course my own stuff...
Ministry: In Case you didn't feel like showing up
pearl jam: ten
Puscifer: Vagina Mine
Tom Waits: Bone Machine
RHCP: Blood Sugar Sex Magic
Alice in Chains: Dirt
Tool: Ænima
Soundgarden: Badmotorfinger
Rush: Chronicles
AC/DC: Highway to Hell
Pink Floyd: Dark Side of the moon
Led Zeppelin: Houses of the Holy
I've been into pretty heavy stuff since I was young...AC/DC, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Sabbath, Megadeth, Metallica, Crue, then into Seattle grunge (Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, etc.) I still have a soft spot for 70s/80s rock and pop rock as well (Elton John, Led Zep, Floyd, Doors, Jethro Tull), but my absolute favorites today are Tom Waits, Dead Can Dance and any of the 3 groups Maynard headlines = Tool, A Perfect Circle and Puscifer.
I'm also a hardcore fan of Ministry, RATM, NIN, and Marilyn Manson.
I'm experimenting with different genres, so I think my music is some sort of odd mix of my 3 favs. It'd be strange if it wasn't, since I listen to those bands so often.
It's hard to really say, as I'm just getting started, and have yet to do much work in the lyrical dept, but I can say that much of what I've been working towards is aimed at the film market.
I'm 44 going on 24. From a small town in NE Ohio in the US. An English teacher who's been living overseas for over a decade (mainly S. Korea, Saudi Arabia and Thailand (now).
Obviously I like traveling...I've been to nearly 40 countries and every US state at least once. I think I've camped in at least 30 National Parks around the globe. If I were to move back to the US to stay (unlikely) it'd probably be in the PAC. NW - Wash state, Oregon or Alaska.
Languages interest me (my Thai, Korean and Arabic skills help me along), along with film and film-making, psychology, literature (real literature IE; Tom Robbins :p), world geography, scuba, martial arts (specifically Aikido, Hapkido and Jujitsu), world religions (tho I don't imbibe), end of the world prophecies, ink blots and occasionally staring at my big toe.
I have no interest in: Politics, mathematics, most of "The News," or selfish types.
Thanks for reading and I hope your day only gets better. :)
