I've been playing music with bands (Drums, guitar and bass) since I was in grade school. Over the past several years I have played less and less frequently, so to cure my creative withdrawals, I recently began composing everything right here on my comp. So far I have been using MIDI/Vst's mainly with some good results, but I still have a lot to learn, especially with mixing/mastering.
Drums, guitar, bass, piano/keyboard. The drums are by far my best and main live instrument, but I am decent enough at the others to comfortably jam, compose, or fill in at a performance.
Acid pro and ton of VST's thus far.
A mouse..which is why it takes me like 30 frustrating hours to draw out a song in acid's midi piano roll.
Getting a USB midi keyboard as soon as possible, my hand can't take much more click/dragging.
Been listening to a lot of Bowie lately.. mostly his post 80's stuff. Check out the Heathen album if you haven't yet, some good tracks to be found there.

A bit like Prodigy, but usually a tad darker(minors/dissonance) with more ambient qualities. Varies greatly from song to song however due to my love and past performing knowledge of most music genre's.
