I am a producer/composer of a generally off-style of hip-hop. I tend to prefer the gritty sound of live instruments over the general electronic perfection typically found in the genre. I record, edit, and mix everything digital, as it grants a form of timing perfection that you cannot find with live music. I may sound like a walking contradiction, but it makes sense in my head and in my tracks. On average I create/use 20+ instruments in every track. It adds to the "epic" sound that most of my artists say that I have.
Synthesizer... That would be all of them... LOL! None really... I know nothing about music at all. My brain operates in advanced algorithmic mathematics, I don't know most of anything of what I do most of the time... But I do it good enough to run my own studio and manage 11 artists.
Adobe Audition 3.0;
Fruity Loops 8XXL;
Sony ACID Pro 7.0;
Sony Sound Forge 9.0;
Visiosonic PCDJ FX VRM, VJ, DEX Red;
Zero-X Beat Creator;
Cakewalk SONAR 8 Producer Edition;
...and hundreds of VSTi's. (Virtual Studio Instruments)
More than one can remember.
Hmmmm... I doubt I could make a top ten because there is so much out there with such a great variety of sound I couldn't possibly choose a top ten when I have a hundred number one spots... Simply, listen to a variety, and search for the meaning of what the artist is trying to convey.
Same as before...
Ironically, my biggest influence (outside of my own obsessive insanity) is Trent Reznor (of NIN) and Brian Warner (Marilyn Manson) because they have proven that like Beethoven, one person can orchestrate everything in musical composition. It may be tricky at first but it comes quick and the sense of accomplishment and pride is worth the struggle.
My music...
What is a living? I own a recording studio and manage performing artists. I didn't know that there was anything other than making music... Wow, you learn something new everyday!
