Zarko Ljubic-Kirby ( Mr. Bluesfinger) was born in 1949., and plays guitar since 1963 . He started learning classical guitar in Zagreb , but soon turned to blues & rock music but he also learned some jazz guitar (he was member of "Stalaktiti", "Grupa 107",etc.). In 1967. was invited by Toni Sabol (singer & keyboard player and founder of "The Creeps") in Torino, Italy where in the famous club "Numero Uno" he performed with this group. Kirby participated in many jam-sessions but particularly with well known American jazz&gospel group "The Peter's Sisters". In that club he performed on one occasion with Joe Cocker as a replacement for Joe's sick guitarist. Over several years he performed in Italy, France, Germany & Switzerland. After leaving "The Creeps" he lived and played for 5 years in the famous Cairo (Egypt) old hotel "The Hilton on The Nile ".
For last 15 years he lives , works & plays blues& jazz in Zagreb-Croatia and Malinska- Krk where he has a summer house, performing with his friends, groups & places like: Evento Jazz Quintet (with Rikard Šuman – bass, Igor Pozar – sax, Stanko Radikovic – keyboards & Mirko Hlupic – drums and group recorded CD "Displaceability No.1" with original compositions: "Displaceability" and "Eva's Dream" . Tony Studeni & New Robots, HDLUZ club, Omega, Architects club Zagreb, FAS, BP Club, Sax club, Cest is the 'Best, JAZ-Malinska , Rainbow club -Zagreb, etc. are just a few places where he performed.
With a very well known finger-picking guitarist & piano virtuoso Mr. Boris Bursac he co-founded in 1989. "The Bluefinger", and they performed for many years together as a duet. With well known singer & guitarist Peter Pock from Ljubljana, Slovenia he performed and recorded in country-club of hotel "Lev".
Several years ago Kirby with his long time friend, guitarist & photographer Mr.Vlado Peric founded group "The Kirby Blues Group".
Kirby is also a specialist in acoustic blues and he is mostly influenced by Sam Lightnin Hopkins, R.L. Burnside, Muddy Watters and Robert Johnson styles of playing in open G tuning (so called "spanish" tuning) of his Gibson Hummingbird 1967 acoustic guitar using also bottle neck slide.
Kirby is currently recording in his home "Kirby Studio" CD to be named " AUTO BLUES" with a number of well known musitians from Zagreb and Ljubljana ( Boris Bursač, Dražen Aljinović-Alja, Peter Pock-Big Pete from Ljubljana, Vlado Perić , and hopefully some other known guitarists and singers from Zagreb. Originals by Zarko Ljubic ( Tell Me, Man Can Love Just One Woman ,. etc.) & well known blues standards will be on CD . It is planned that CD will be released by the end of 2009.
