I started writing material in the 80's with some friends using a small Boss DR-55 drum machine, Korg MS10 mono synth and Korg Poly 800 synth all recorded on my little Fostex X15 4 track recorder. So after a 25 year break for whatever reason, in 2009 I decided to buy my first DAW, Magix Samplitude for 50 quid with a small MIDI keyboard. I started playing around with loop based tracks but now I have the confidence only use pre-recorded loops as a last resort.
So after a year of messing around with software I now have Sonar Home Studio with an array of VST instruments of which Absynth 5 and Alchemy are my current favourites.
Today anything goes but current favourites would be Jon Hopkins, Editors, The Knife etc etc...

I would say that my influences are wide rangeing. But to start with it was the electronic Japanese artist, Tomita that got me interested in Electronic music. Mike Oldfield became a firm favourite of mine at this time as well followed by the ususal suspects such as Ultravox, John Foxx, Bill Nelson, OMD, Peter Gabriel, A Flock of Seagulls, Kraftwerk..... you get the picture!
early 80's electronica... I think a bit Mike Oldfield ish
