I got into synthesizers when a friend of my dads had an old analog one that I would steal a play on every time we visited. I nagged my dad to buy me a keyboard for christmas second hand from the paper, and never looked back. I bought an amiga and used modtrackers, and then went on to pc midi programs. I stopped writing and playing for years when I got married, had kids, and worked all hours, but two years ago bought a little setup to start again. I'm still practising on the mixing and production, but at the end of the day its the tune that matters.
I spend a chunk of my time with dance music as it's immediately gratifying, but the real satisfaction is from the odd songs that I write, where I'm not even sure how it got to where it is now or what genre it belongs to. I have a massive backlog of old songs (some are just written on notation paper for lack of anything to record on!) that I would love to wade through and resurrect, as well the unfinished songs just from the last year. It seems to be random which songs I actually finish even to a crude standard. Whether I will ever catchup, who knows (but probably not)?
