Thanks Mark for your compliment! The image is from a professional photo series for our upcoming new website and for the new publisher I work for. My daughter chose it. She said I should be "brave" *smile
Phenomenal aural trip - all kinds of funk and jazz spinning ecstatically, masterful playing and gorgeous sound production and mix. You still dont have the double hit at the end ; )
Hi Mark, I don't think there is much to add to what I said about half a year ago. I notice that you have screwed a bit on some corners. But that didn't change my overall impression. Still excellent! *smile. I already left out the "break" at the end. Perhaps a double hit of the percussion instrument at the end would be a viable suggestion. As it is now, it leaves me with the impression "I'll just stop now" *smile. But that's just my personal impression. Others will definitely see it differently. Greetings Manuela
Manuela! Greetings. Thank you for your feedback. Double hit at the end? Ok, I'm on it. It's a good thing this track is still a great listen for you. Also the picture is LOVELY:)! Stay safe.
Mark
Baobou! Just how have you been? It's wonderful to hear from you. I pulled this one back out to experiment with some new VST instruments In particular that bass called ICON that's a dream to play on midi keyboard. Also practicing on some new mastering techniques. Your expert feedback is highly valued as always. Take it easy and stay safe.
[just as a small sidenote, i am getting some high-energy low end from the bass that seems to interfere a bit sometimes (for example :40-:44), maybe worth investigating closer - but it could also just be my suboptimal room/speaker setup.]
hotdamn, that element setting in at :48 is insanely cool, i love it. the melody itself but also how it sounds with the claves and subtly combines into this adorable sound.
some sick rhythms on the keys and proper bass lines, i can't not move to this. what an arrangement man, blew me away. every instrument is done brilliantly and that whole thing is just bonkers.
i will need more time to listen to this in detail. this is some serious fusion.
doudei I so appreciate the stop and listen. Agreed! The buzzing in the lower hz ……. GOOD EARS! I’ve been working on a redo. I’ll post it later. Thanks for the compliments. Peace
Wow, Mark! I missed hearing the original version, but this is pretty amazing! The mix is really excellent. I very much enjoyed the track. Kept my interest up throughout.
I see from your profile that you are a drummer, but also have several drum VSTs. Would be interested to know if you played live on the track and whether you were triggering the VSTs or on a real kit. Drum parts were really, really good.
Like Manuela, I would have preferred to hear an ending with one or more closing chords, not the relatively quick fade-out. That said, I very often use fade-outs to finish off my tracks so who am I to talk? :)
Was also interested to see that you are using Ozone 10. I have it and have found that the mastering generally is superior to what I get from online services, especially if I tweak things a bit from the presets.
Greetings Eric. I'm glad you stopped by and shared your impressions on this track. For the drums here, I wrote the midi and played through Superior Drummer 3. For the ending, I'm thinking about a dramatic and abrupt ending for the next round. Ozone 10 is a great plugin for mastering, and I haven't found any online mastering service that can touch it. It's great meeting you. Be safe.
Hey Marc, it's amazing as always. Love the horns you added (I think) around 3:41
I also still stand by my original comment, although it seems you did the opposite, and removed it from the end now ;)
Great track, always good to hear you having fun!
BaoBau. Thank you for taking yet another listen. I've been working on my mastering technique with some new plugins. So with Ozone 10 I've reversed engineered my mastering chain by using the AI feature. Then I apply my own twist, so I can improve the overall sound. Your input is always treasured. Have an awesome and safe weekend.
Brother Maj. The greetings and warmest well wishes are received graciously. With 2022 being a year of recovery for you but finishing strong, May 2023 bring an exponential increase of great things happening in every area of your life. And a big congrats on the success of your YouTube channel as well the other outlets. Be safe Mate
Hello, your changes spiced up the song even more. I have the feeling that everything now sounds a bit fuller, more voluminous. The bass and the drums are great as usual. The spatial image is excellent, the individual instruments are not only good to listen to, but they harmonize in space and sound. The added horns complement the excellent overall picture and the extremely sensitively tuned sound. Great solos, wonderful live atmosphere. Hats off! I bow to you! I can't imagine it getting any better. What bothers me a bit is the hidden ending. I'm more of a friend of the final chord. In my opinion, it fits better to the live character conveyed by the song. But that's a matter of taste. Very good work! And I don't say that often! *smile. Greetings and a Happy New Year to you and your loved ones Manuela
Manuela, During the time of this New Year, may your hopes, dreams, desires, goals and aspirations come into full fruition musically and in life for you and your family. I so appreciate your reevaluation and fave on this track. I wholeheartedly agree that instrument placement, and presentation contributes in a big way to the overall quality of a mix. Especially with the big challenges of the jazz genre. Your work is par excellence, as your observations and suggestions are also. That to me is more valuable than gold. Till next time, be safe.
Mark, this swings like crazy, the rhodes and bass are a joy to my ears as they lead this way out orchestra thru some really interesting changes. i love the go-for-broke jump of the arrangement, you always deliver the inventiveness and energy. good tidings, man!
Mike. Greetings and a Happy New year to you. It is always great for you to stop by and share your observations. I love music that swings, and it's a privilege that you enjoyed this listen to the degree you hit that heart. Your compliments are received humbly. Be safe in the New Year, and I'm looking forward to what your creativity will birth out. Till next time.
Mark. WOW! Amazing track my friend. For me it conjures up Weather Report and a (Jaco..ish) bass groove. Mix and spatial awareness is great as usual. I know how much heart and soul, (with a capital S , random Tower of Power reference) is put into these tracks. Groove is non-stop. UE
UE. Your stop, feedback, fave, and compliments are received humbly. Also, I thoroughly enjoyed our spirited conversation. You mentioned Weather Report and Bass Kingpin Jaco? That's HUGE! T.O.P.? I'm done....... Those groups are amongst my all-time favorites. Your continued support is a true blessing, UE
i followed your journey since 2021, i really like your nice clean mix. Theres some fusion/world elements mixed with jazz vibes. You take a lot of care into you themes and with the years it became more free creativ. Those basslines are yummy. greetings from a banana
BananaLu. So just two days ago I was going through some of the earlier tracks I uploaded, and I came across your comment. In other words, I was just thinking about you and here you are. WOW! It has been awhile, and it's great hearing from you. Thanks for the stop, listen, fave and feed back. And yep, I'm guilty of everything you've heard here. Happy Holidays to you and your family.
As I was listening I was thinking I have to say something about that busy bass, but when I go to the comments everyone's said it already. I like the juxtaposition of that bass with the wash if the Rhodes on top. Solos all outstanding and production sublime as always.
Greetings Zootman. Thanks for stopping by and giving this one a listen. The section you mentioned is my favorite. Yep, when you move from a kinda cheesy entrance to BEAST MODE! And the Rhodes was egging the bass along. I appreciate the compliments. Happy Holidays.
Angelus! And right back at you and your fine family. A very very Merry Christmas and a happy, blessed, prosperous, productive, and melodious New Year! Let's make 2023 A KILLING year, my dear friend. Please hold everything down until the next go round:)!
Thanks BONEZONMARZ for stopping by. We could go for hours about a fire bass line. Being a drummer, the bass is the driving force, like a match made in heaven. I appreciate that mention and the fave as well. Happy Holidays to you and your family. Peace
This is a BEAUTIFUL production. Was quite hooked from start to finish. Been away from Looperman for a bit and I love coming back to fresh talent on these forums. that riff at 3:55 is very elevating before the guitar.
BradoSanz. Thanks for stopping by and checking my track out. The listen, feedback, and fave says a lot. I try to keep things fresh and interesting. I'm glad for your approval. Be sure to check back. Be safe
Oh d*mn, ok I loved that electronic piano hook at the beginning, that was so tasty and the bass-drive/distortion you added was utterly perfect. This track shares a great quality of most of your stuff in that, to my ear, it almost feels like a tour of various instrumental sounds, each unique and adding it's own flavour to the whole before stepping back to let another shine. It gives a unique quality to your music from a songwriting perspective as well as a production one. I don't think you need to develop this one any further unless you really want to. But trust your instincts, they're razor sharp!
Cam, greetings. You already know how I feel about that EP. Thanks for taking time out for this listen. It is good to know that you found the instruments balanced out just right. I appreciate your feedback as always. Be safe.
Hey there Rita. Gratitude for the stop, listen, compliments and fave. You know, I actually composed this track around that bass line. It has been a total blast, and I'm not done yet. Stay safe and stay tuned.
this track sounds like
the coming together of a
beautiful creative musical
mind.
I'm totally lovin the aggressive
point, counterpoint play between all
the instruments. I hated to hear it end.
wow Mark we need more from you here, your such a talented artist. that intro is off the charts, could be the theme for a modern Shaft movie the deepness of that drum kick is sic and that guitar is fly, the percs are fantastic love the shakers the instrument solos are on point with so much space to shine the bass is top notch and is always a strong point with you, the flute and keys just after sit in harmony, a could just write superlative after superlative a master at work, bye the way mate do you still have your own spot on your local radio jazz show, i assume you do what lucky listeners they are, two listens back to back and then straight to the fav button
Paul. Thanks for checking this one. It is in the early stages, and I'm still kicking some ideas around. I appreciate you sharing the points that jumped out at you. And yep, every Friday night the station showcases what I do. And finally, my SoundCloud is taking shape as well. The compliments and fave is never a small matter my friend. Stay posted for the updates on this one. Have a fabulous weekend and stay safe.
Angelus. You're totally and absolutely welcome. Your sound is uniquely yours and a complete joy to listen to. Your writing skills are weighty, and you have this confidence that is completely void of arrogance. And like me, you flow in a NO TROLL ZONE! Ok, I'm finished now. Thank you for the visit, conversation, continual support and encouragement. Till next time, be safe.
It is as you describe. A state without confusion. I especially like the slapping bass solo from 1:05. But the saxophone in the solo is also very well integrated. You have the feeling, as always, of attending an impressive live session. Good basis, great solos, I could well imagine it on a stage. From 4:50, this phenomenal duet between keys and horns, wow! But at the end of the day you still have to work. I just don't think it's that nice. Think of the stage! Greetings Manuela
Manuela, So you like my bass? Yep, I intended to show that bass much love. It's the only way I could move this forward. The sax here is a touch smoother than my usual. That I did for balance. I always go for a live sound. That came from being drawn to the live to disc process in the recording studio from many years ago. And I'm fortunate to have some really bossed up reverbs that I use IR's (Impulse Responses) to match pretty much any sound environment, The trombone/synth duet idea just popped in my head when I was working on that section. I glad you noticed that. Thanks for the feedback. It helps a great deal. Be safe.
DAMMMNNN! indeed wooo! now this is groovalicious! on all levels & man, that B-Line is everything, Mark, you truly are an outstanding! JAZZ-MASTER. The swing of this track is giving life & seriously got me dancing! around the room. I can't sit still with such smooth groove high quality jazz such as this playing into my ears, yes sir! awesomely done indeed. You kill every single time no lie. It's always a pleasure listening to your work. You never disappoint. BRAVO!!!
Angelus greetings. So the first order of business is this..... You and BeatMaker4Real, TAKE A VIRTUAL BOW! That track is FIRE, awesome work, point-blank period! Now the stop, listen, compliments fave, and feedback is always greatly appreciated. That B-Line you mentioned is A BASS BEAST called a Chapman Stick that is totally capable of creating harmonic heaven! No joke, and you noticed that. Those EARS THO! I totally LOVE MUSICAL PEOPLE:)! Ok, I was having a moment, LOL. Be safe.
Damnnn! nothing to say when you can't do the same! all my musical respect for this work, I think it's the first time that I put a "fav"! I won't talk to you about the bass line which is insane, the groove and the rest!
hats off Mark !
Michael
Michael, are you a closet fusion junkie? It's ok, you're in very good company! Ok, so your stop listen and fave is appreciated and epic on so many levels. This is the first round for this one, and I'm just getting started. Stay tuned for the updates. Have a great day.
Any day is a good day if we have a new track from the King of Fusion.
Great stuff man. If you're looking for ideas: I like the motive you used in the intro and outro, and I would like to highlight that even more, and also make it come back maybe once or twice in the song (maybe with a change of drum rhythm, etc). I think it's a strong melody and can be your leitmotif!
BaoBou. And a very good day to you! Thanks for the stop and compliments. Ok, so you know this track is very liberating for me. I really like your suggestions. I'll explore the possibilities on the next round. Have a great day.

==============
Inspired by a track of Pseudoble. I was noodling along to his track "I wish I didn't know" (which is awesome) and had the words "Snow in Athens" in my head. This with the smooth jazz/fusion atmosphere led me to this track with a sort of Steely Dan feel.
Description : This track is built around the repetitive lead guitar line which I have previously incorporated as an intro for the rocker track "Sweetheart Runner" by LM user TinyFinger whom I have helped in arranging, mixing and producing his song. This extended session was a good oportunity to test some new equipment....Thanks to Tiny for not being mad about it...:)^^
Description : I had to go in on this track. This is a future bass, electrofusion song. I posted the full version here full the Looperfam because you guys give me sooooo much support. I can never thank you all enough.
Description : Psychedelic blues hip hop with lead banjo and acoustic resonator slide guitar. Acoustic drum kits, fat basslines, soaring filtered strings, some strong Eastern elements (from guitar and strings), some dub and funk from the bass and drums and a bit of rocking electric guitar. Very unusual piece of music and a trip like no other I've heard. Some of it is like a dark, deep Southern delta blues track over a hip hop and dub backing. All played and programmed by me, no loops used.
After a quite turbulent long travel we’ve reached a totally unknown planet which is mostly covered with clouds. As we pass over it we can see parts of rivers through the clouds that come out of the dark rocky surface in some places. So the whole scene is alternating textures of white, dark gray and silver flashes. Unfortunately there’s no chance to land anywhere so we just pass, wonder and travel on …
Description : A spoopy song, early for Halloween. This was a collaboration with Micky, who did most of the work.
A musical realization of a poem by Thomas Hardy
Idea: Spearcarrier
Voices: Spearcarrier & Micky
Music: Micky
Genre: We don't know yet. Suggestions welcome. LOL
Description : Real acoustic, electric and bass guitars played by me. Drums are loops and programmed MIDI. Played piano and synths. Lots of layers and delay. A gated moog, organ, my recorded finger-snaps and a reversed bass guitar effect that sounds like throat-singing. Three movements, divided by moments of calm. Thoughts and feedback are welcome.
Description : Return To Forever was a group that started my love of fusion jazz and this is my attempt to cover their 1976 track, “The Romantic Warrior. I know I wore out several inceptions of this album from LP, cassette and 8 track. The original track was over 10 minutes long, so I abridged it some. Hope you like and download.
Description : A moroccan traditional song from 70s titled "Toudart" which means "Life" in Moroccan berber/Tamazight, revived and composed in a modern way, I used minor2go's piano loop which you can hear on the background, everything elese is from me.
