Description : Thought I'd try another dub track, but this time I didn't use other peoples samples. I played the bass loop, and did the lyrics myself. I experimented with pitching my voice both up and down. I'm really interested to hear what people think of this track, as it was a bit of a stretch for me. Thanks for listening!
UPDATE-Did a little adjustment on FX volumes, and some more mastering.
I like warble you've got on it. Automation? Took a second to realize it's a bass guitar. I also like the tremmed vocals. The higher ones are pretty neat. The ending would make a great intro for the next track. Cut this track when the music ends, and make the last bit of vocals be an intro to the next track, which would have to be some hardcore Speed Waltz, naturally.
Hey Evan, thanks for leaving a comment on this! I'm pretty sure there wasn't any automation on the bass, though it was several years ago. I'm thinking it was a combination of a Boss flanger and time stretching which arrived at that sort of tone. The high vocals are me as well, obviously manipulated! The next song on the album was actually fairly high tempo drum and bass, so I guess speed waltz is close (aside from the time signature from what I remember). I'm thinking about getting a new bass soon, but mostly for my wife to play, as she's getting back into it. I'd like to play more as well, I just think I'm far better at guitar (6 or 12 string). Thanks again for the listen!
I always wondered how your real voice would sound like.It sounds like a much, much younger Tom Waits. Thanks for staying true to your unique sound.
Btw,the female-like voice is yours or from a friend of yours?
All the vocals on this one are me, I just experimented with pitch shifting them with some good results! Glad you think it's unique! Thanks for your review my friend!
I'm really curious who this song would remind you of, cuz it's really a weird one! Glad you could get into this one! Thanks so much for your kind reviews and for the fave!
Honestly it reminds me of earlier days when i used to eat mushrooms... very trippy, but i'm weird i guess cuz i like that. While it might not be for everybody it has a vibe all it's own and i think that's what makes music awesome. especially your music... good stuff
Yeah, I've been known to ingest some fungus on occasion too, and I think it shows through in my music... ha ha! I'm glad you could get into this unusual track! Thanks for the reviews!
Hey, thanks so much for checking this one out! I think you're right, a glitchy remix of this would be interesting! I appreciate your comments my friend!
The vox on this kinda remind me of a mix between Biz Markie and Frank Zappa. It also makes me think that this'd be what a slowed down mix of Funk would sound like. Course, Dub is a bit outside of my comfort zone (somethin about it just seems so alien to me). Maybe its a matter of tempo (slow bass is like throwin a curve ball in Baseball). At any rate, very good tune to just chill out to. Lates!
Biz Markie and Frank Zappa huh? That's a weird combination! Thanks for listening even though dub is out of your comfort zone! I appreciate your reviews!
Yeah, the vocals turned out good on this one. I'm glad you like it too! You should definitely use your own vocals more, I'd like to hear that! Thanks for the review and the fave!
I dont think I have ever heard anything like this. VEry much in the vein of the great Spiv. Very original sound. Lol I like the gated vocals, very cool. and the horn sample ties it all together. Very very cool, SPiv!
Glad I could give you a new sonic experience with this one! Thanks for saying it's original! Yeah, the vocals turned out pretty good on this one. Thanks so much for returning the favour of some reviews!
This is a totally different approach to dub music, which I heard,(I guess I heard a little)..hhaaha!
Excellent job on the vocal pitch,I like how the entire track sounds!
Hey man thanks for taking the time to listen! Yeah this is definitely a different approach, mostly because I don't usually do dub music. I'm glad you like the vocal pitch, I think it turned out good. Thanks very much for returning the favour of a review!
haha not what i expected to be honest but i like it saw the genre was dub and i expected somethin else but this was nice man definetly see some jazzy influences in there an the vocals give it a weird twist. thumbs up.
Yep, there's definitely some jazzy stuff going on here. I'm new to dub too, so it sounds a little out there. Glad you could enjoy it! Thanks for the review!
Faved by the end of the first play, only because I remembered it was an option.
Quick history lesson - Dub is created by William S. Burroughs in the 1950's - and he'd effing love this by the way! That line alone "come over here you are no more free" is really the thesis of _Naked Lunch_. So take that you pseudoPurists!
This is sooooo jacked in My Man! Technically you've done what you need to to call it Dub (reverb and mucking with pitch, Dub's all about manipulation with certain spirit) and I'd suggest if you come back to it, maybe use some phasing and a bit o'delay to muck with the sense of time a bit. Effective Dub always messes with your head, so I'm not sure where the "too much" line is yet. Certainly this one is well under way.
I want to kiss your forehead for making this download available! I love it that much!
Hey friend! I'm really pleased that you enjoyed this one! I appreciate the history lesson too, that's an interesting tidbit of info. I hear what you mean about dub messing with your head... I just didn't want to use to much time based effects on this one. I felt that the tremolo and reverb were just enough to take it into head messing territory. Thanks very much for faving and downloading! Your words are very much appreciated, especially since you have such an understanding of dub.
i like this track alot! and yeah kinda a bit talking headish....but inna good way....love the chant nice touch....great dub brother....i also like to use my own bass loops from time to time....bless!
Hey, glad you could get into this track! Talking Headish is cool! It's fun to play bass once in a while, and it's almost essential for a good dub track. Thanks for the kind comments, friend!
this is reminding me of Talking Heads alot for some reason...maybe the vibe more than anything..good job on the vocal Spiv, fits the track perfectly...love the sounds!! i remember all the original synths..only 'cause i had a few of them at the time lol...hope u are nit snowed in or anything man
peace and be well!!
victormusic01x...Philly, New York, Boston, Minneapolis/St. Paul, New York....???
Talkin heads, eh? That's quite a compliment, they're an excellent group. Glad you could get into the vocals, they were a bit experimental. Not snowed in especially, but lots of ice and rain lately. Thanks for stopping by to check out this track! Your reviews are always welcome! Take care!
Thanks friend, I'm glad you liked this one! I think the vocals and the bass turned out good on this track. You should try using your voice, it can really add a lot to a track. I appreciate all your reviews!
A real different and unique version of dub. Like it a lot!
The whole "genre" thing is a bit overblown in my opinion. Crossing boundries in music is what excites me about it. It's a reason I like bands like the Clash because their origination of ideas is what set them apart and made them special to me. Do I really want to hear the same beat and bass in every dub song or reggea song or hip hop or......No, not at all. Your song is different and that is very cool.
Hey friend, thank you for the insightful review! I think the main thing that sets this apart from other dub is that I don't really know what I'm doing, hehe.
I like the clash for some of the same reasons, they really went out on a limb sometimes.
I appreciate your helpful comments, thank you much!
Not heard much Dub but sir if this is what it is like I think I might be trying to find somemore to play, you are a genius mate, like the whole feel about this track also love ya vocals, so coooool, again thank you for your brilliant pieces of work, give us others a goal to try and acheive, excellent...
this is quite cool. has a sound that at first its like, 'ok whats going on here'; then as it progresses it becomes 'damn, this is sounding good' and by the end its like, 'whoa, I gotta play this number again!'. hehe. really like the way the vocal in the background sounds, that was really cool. definitely liked this track, levels are great, bass is coolness and everything just goes nicely together. great work!
Hey thanks for your helpful comments! I know it's hard to get into this song at first, I'm glad you liked it by the end though. Thank you very much for listening and reviewing!
Bauhaus is definitely an influence on my work, especially on tracks I do vocals for. Martin Hannet, the producer for Joy Division? I'm very familiar with his work, I love Joy Division and New Order a lot.
very cool track. it really draws you in. its not something that you could listen to and it kind of fade out and you forget your listening. it draws you in and holds your focus the whole time, like grips you and takes you with it step by step waiting to see what notes gonna pop up next. very cool.
Hey, thank you very much for the compliments! This isn't the sort of track I always make, so it's good to hear that someone appreciates it. It was fun to make, so I'm happy that it's fun to listen to as well. I appreciate the listen!
i like this man , dub is all about diversity and experimentation and this was to say the least intresting ..lol, the voice really made me think of " planet rock" i dont know why but it was really cool man
Cool, I'm glad you enjoyed it, or atleast found it interesting. I'm not familiar with "Planet Rock", unfortunately I'm a little out of touch. Thanks for your comments and support!
on the midi drums....
I would boost them... actually, I would dub the drums, and create a couple drum tracks, but CUT the volume, big time, but then add volume incrementally, so the whole musical piece would come into it's own...
just personal...
My thing with dub.. and ... I am sooo sorry spvkurl but i got to be real...
is how.. dub is so condescending!
oh?
you don't get dub?
well FUNK you!

SCREW THAT!
I want to sell my soul, for 8 dollars an hour! and BUY things I LOVE at walmart!
sorry
i am hella aggro...
I like it a lot.. but I need more depth, and I don't feel it.
Hey, don't worry about being honest and real, it's good to hear the other side of things once in a while.
I know this track lacks some depth, and I think I know why... I don't get dub, I just don't fully understand it. I like to think that what matters is that I try.
So, you're not alone, this track is missing something. Thanks for your comments!
lol had to smile at this man
Wicked effort, pretty out there but still quality
Not sure what can be improved its all good quality stuff
Keep it up man
God Bless

You must have huge brass nads dude !!! Outstanding experiment. I swear, anything you do is gold - musical art in a true form - pushing beyond normal boundries. Well done Spiv !
Hehehe, thank you so much for the compliments! I have been watching the Mighty Boosh lately, maybe I took inspiration from them without realizing it. I really appreciate the support!
Very experimental feel to this. Strange meter to it, it kind of lopes or hops along. Is that your wife singing in the background? If it is, she's becoming a staple part of the spivkurl sound. I think your voice could do with some reverb and possibly other treatments, maybe phaser or flanger? - good work.

I think my style of dub is a little non traditional, judging by the reviews I've gotten. But I think it's still the best genre for the track.
I'm pretty happy with how this track turned out, and your words make me feel even better about it. You've made my day!
Bauhaus is definitely an influence on my work, especially on tracks I do vocals for. Martin Hannet, the producer for Joy Division? I'm very familiar with his work, I love Joy Division and New Order a lot.

Funny you ask about my wife, because it's not her, it's me. I pitched my voice way up for the background vocals. The sound just worked for me.
The vocals do have some verb, and the backup has some delay and flange. I just tend to go light o the effects... maybe I should turn the FX up a bit.
Thanks for listening, and your suggestions!
Fits really the rest of the Track. Sounds are Crazy :P
I miss a lil'bit deeeep reggaechords (you must know i love reggae :D) with a touch of reverb, but that is what i think.
No, a cool nice Track
cheers Frank
Some reggae chords would be cool, I just couldn't tell what kind of instrument would sit well in this mix. It might not be quite finished though.
I appreciate your support and comments! Thanks much!
